A new LEGO Batman movie in the works...

Posted by ,

The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that the character of LEGO Batman from The LEGO Movie is to get his own on-screen spin-off.

Warner has also reserved several slots over the next few years for more LEGO films. The Ninjago film is scheduled for 23rd September 2016, while the date of 26th May 2017, which had previously been allocated to The LEGO Movie's sequel, is now likely to be used for the Batman film. The slots of 25th May 2018 and 24th May 2019 have also been announced as scheduled for LEGO animations, though what these will be is yet to be revealed.

He's Batman. TLM2 can wait. You know why? Because he's Batman!

Does this mean it takes place in the same universe and just has Batman as the main character?

I'm Batman.

Two words that instantly made everyone who saw the first teaser for TLM fall in love with Batman.

And now this.

legobatman2017

(What next, Unikitty? I'd love that too...)

LEGO Batman is definitely a supporting character. As a main, I'm afraid he'd wear out his schtick.

Everything is Batman...

Batman is now the Wolverine of the LEGO Movie universe.

Aren't there already Lego Batman movies? I can only see this as a good idea IF its set in the same lego universe as the first movie with at least some of the returning cast.

I find this hard to believe. The Batman character in TLM was cringe-worthy. A movie based around him would only appeal to young chilren and even they may not like it.

^ Batman from TLM was awesome and funny!! He's not 'cringe-worthy'

And I think I'd rather had a Lego Batman movie than a sequel to TLM. Sometimes sequels ruin it.

I for one can't wait for the movie. Hopefully we get the batmobile and batwing from TLM as sets.

^ no tell us

It looks like from 2016 we will get a Lego film every year. Maybe Lego is the new batman and Lego batman is the... OK I have no idea where I am going with this, its 4am people.

This is the best news I've ever heard. Batman has always worked better in animated form (sorry Chris Nolan). His legacy is much larger than the Lego Movie. This has "Bat Win" written all over it. Take a hike Ben Affleck!

Normally I would say Lego could do with a little less Batman, but I am definitely on board with this.

But it will be even better if there is also more Unikitty and Metalbeard. In fact, just skip the movie and give me a Metalbeard tv show.

Hopefully, this will be along the lines of the James Bond in terms of critics liking for a franchise with many sequels, and NOT Land Before time. OR like the 3 Toy Stories would be good as well critic-wise.

Hmm. Don't know what to make of this at the moment...

We can always hope for Benny TLM.

I think they have realised they can capitalise on the upcoming batman vs superman film plus will arnett was perfect. Hopefully the film will be free to say what it wants about batman/dc/lego and it will be set in the same universe. I wonder if we will get harry potter characters this time?

I don't know if the Ninjago film will register with the wide age range that the original LM did, because it's only based around one theme. I'm not too sure I'd want Batman's 'FEELINGS!' Song pumping at me for and hour and a half but I'd be interested to see how that registers if it's in the same universe as TLM.

This is sad news. It seems to me a straight-up LEGO Movie sequel would be a much better idea allowing for a wider audience and more flexible story line.

By in United Kingdom,

But will it be as good as the Lego Batman movie that is already out???

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like this idea, but hope that it takes place only in the same universe as the original. I hope that it includes new characters, and not stereotypical Batman villains such as the Joker and Two-Face. Also, one thing that would be interesting to see is how this connects to Finn's universe.

i have not seen the lego movie yet but i hope this is as good as i hear the lego movie is.

I wonder what kind of pointview the plot writers use to be. Generally the Batman from TLM isn't exactly that one from the original series---- not because of Finn, but due to a more obvious backstory setting difference. If there is a "LEGO Batman Movie". it can also be similiar with video game series which is an original parody of Batman that isn't doing with TLM.

However if it does relate to TLM, I wonder if other LEGO-related movie or TV series like Ninjago would also hint some TLM settings.
