Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random minifigure is sp110 Space Police 3 Alien - Rench, a Space figure that came in one set, 5981 Raid VPR, released during 2010.
Our members collectively own a total of 5,029 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $14.20.

Loved this fig! The combination and modernization of Blacktron 1 and Blacktron 2 designs was such a cool touch. I briefly entertained the idea of coming up with a whole "Blacktron 3" faction to oppose the Space Police using parts from this guy and the CMF Space Villain, but only ever managed to come up with a couple of MOCs. Still a lot of fun, looking back.
Now this is an excellent Blacktron 1.5 figure. The lime recoloured head is the icing on the cake.
@ElephantKnight's favorite torso design. And I agree with @Lyichir that the printing was a nice updating and blending of both generations of Blacktron.
I've got two of these. Space Police 3 was one of the best original Lego themes. The builds and minifigres were so cool and unique.
This is what happened when Blacktron started messing around with their genome. Love these guys! Space Police III had fantastic figs.
I always liked the Blacktron 1 Blacktron 2 mashup. Hard not to. I don’t really understand why BL has a side pic of this character.
Would love to have a group of these torsos. Such a great combo, still look more menacing like BT1 but the logo of BT2 is definitely 90s cool. The skull and chain pants is...well, that's 90s something. Would look better on a skater than a space villain.
We still haven't gotten SP114 as a RMOTD...here's to hoping!

Probably to make it clear that the head had those tentacles.

5984 also has yet to be RSotD.

Because it's supposed to look like a mugshot taken by the police after he was arrested?
SPIII had some great alien designs. Such variety! I loved the Blacktron nods on this guy, and another alien from the second year (Craniac?) had a little Insectoids patch

Blakctron 3.0 should have happened right after Space Police III. It's not too late. We need more original sets like these.
Guy’s got eyes like a Gran from Star Wars-except, y’know, only two of them.

I regret to announce that it is, in fact, too late (trans neon green has been retired).
Space Police I:
1 Officer Minifig
Space Police II:
2 Officer Minifigs
Space Police III:
15 Officer Minifigs
Somehow Space seems to have become a far more dangerous and violent place for the Fuzz to need such a large team.
;-)
Honestly you look at him from just the neck up and he’s a happy little guy just having a laugh.
The black leathers and skull motifs sort of change that perspective

Who said Blacktron 3 would need TNG? A guy in my LUG came up with his own Blacktron 3 faction, and it was basically just Blacktron 1 converted to trans-orange (cockpits being available in that color at the time, but not trans-yellow).

I'm okey with regular yellow, as in 10355.
It's not an Alien, it's Gary (71046-12)!

Don't talk to me or my beautiful trans-neon green son ever again.

Also, stay away from my trans-neon orange daughter.
My brother used multiples of this fig's torso as Blacktron 3 guys for many, many years. He's got quite a B3 setup (including but not limited to Vader's Castle but with trans-bright green windows and lime accents for the leader guy's dwelling) but most of it is packed away right now. If you want to see his castle MOD, copy paste this Flickr link to his photo album into your browser (Brickset hates Flickr links, and so clicking on it doesn't work):

It's the @ symbol. Brickset interprets what follows as a username, so puts a space before it; you have to remove the space before it will work.
Really like this guy, and yes - it probably was the main reason for buying the set (5981).
But I still have to say I love the design of that ship too.
Though I wished all copies came with the old style windscreens. The big plate at the bottom of the redesign somehow ruins the look.
Really nice one! We play with it a lot with our kids, as part of our set with the new Blacktron Renegade and Cruiser!
Actually visible in my review earlier this week (second picture) :-)

One of my favorite aliens from Space Police III. He is incredibly useful for Star Wars mocs! Also the set he came in was really cool! I remember my brother being very fond of it when he got it from our grandparents.

I mean, that's mostly just because Space Police 3 used individualized faces for characters (much like most other modern themes), instead of them all sharing the same face like Space Police 1 (or all but the commander sharing the same face for Space Police 2). There were always more than 1 or 2 figs in those themes, but because they had no distinguishing features they're all categorized the same.

I know, I was joking.
Otoh I prefer the classic smiley face over the variety we have today. For me all minifigs should still only come with a yellow standard smiley face. That's the charm of LEGO for me.
For example on all my Modulars of the modern era where minifigs came with specialized faces I have swapped them for the classic smiley variant to keep the display cohesive.
I can understand that some might think specialized faces should be on licensed characters like on Harry Potter or Star Wars, but for something like City and all the other in-house themes I would prefer generic yellow smiley faces. Just like I prefer unnamed characters in City etc.
