Random minifig of the day: ixs007

Posted by ,

Today's random minifigure is ixs007 Xtreme Stunts Brickster Henchman with Medium Blue Overalls #2, a Island Xtreme Stunts figure that came in one set, 6740 Xtreme Tower, released during 2002.

Our members collectively own a total of 1,128 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $7.10.

My first thought was that he didn't look familiar, but then I saw what set he'd come in, which I do own. But then, he's one of the two least memorable figures in the set, the other one being the other henchman.

This is actually a pretty good figure

I loved Xtreme Island, but I never bought the tower, I always regretted it.

Island Xtreme Stunts was such a good theme

Do you think this is like the Beagle Boys of Ducktales fame, where every criminal is related to each other?

I get the vibe that this guy is one of those henchmen who isn’t really all that bad himself, but just fell in with a bad crowd.

By in Turkey,

Yeah, 2K face print from a 2K set. I liked the quality of the torso print tghough. Spot on.

That would explain the…slightly inbred look on his face. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a dopier looking Lego villain

It depends on your metric. Judging by today's graphic design, this is a cave-painting. Judging by today's quality of printing, this is a masterpiece. Judging by today's range of expressions, this is a carnival freakshow. Judging by its fashion-sense, this thing deserves to be dipped in acid. It can live in multiple places at once, you know? Including a vat of acid.

By in Germany,

I like their derpy faces. Would still have preferred one of the actual "Bricksterbots" (was that their name?) from Lego Island 2 though.

Side note: This guy and his companion were the first minifigs with plain Medium Blue legs.

Tangentially related by way of LEGO Island: you can actually find Pepper Roni in one of the LEGO Fortnite game modes. It’s cool that presumably someone who grew up playing LEGO Island went on to work at Epic Games.

I didn't own this minifigure, but I did have his buddy from 6738, and I confess I never quite understood these guys. In Lego Island 1, Brickster only ever worked solo, and in Island 2 he had his robotic Bricksterbots to do his dirty work - who he was still using in 2002 even, as they show up as the penultimate team to beat in Football Mania / Soccer Mania - and yet the sets didn't try to replicate them and instead gave Brickster random human henchmen? Even stranger, their minifigures graphics had the style of eyes that all the characters had in the Island 2 game, despite none of the other characters in the IXS sets - even those who actually had been in that game - having that style on their physical minifigures.

As such, I really have no idea who these guys are or how they fit into the games' lore. Where did they come from? Do they have unique names or personalities? What are their lives like outside of henchman-ing? I genuinely have no idea.

I doubt Lego would ever revisit the Lego Island world these days, but if they did I wonder if we'd actually get physical Bricksterbot minifigures? I can't help but think that the Minecraft head piece with a new print would be ideal for them...

I admit, Island Xtreme Stunts is the one game in the LEGO Island trilogy that I've never played. It doesn't help that it sounds like it's one of the hardest LEGO games to get working on a modern PC! So I don't know much of the lore about the Brickster's henchmen... other than the fact that they're henchmen and they work for the Brickster.

But for those of you wondering, "What about the Brickster-Bots?" There's an interesting answer during the development of Island Xtreme Stunts. According to a preliminary design document, these henchmen form the "Blue Hand Group" and play his mooks in the movie that they're filming... but in actuality, they are Brickster-Bots in disguise, wearing masks like Scooby-Doo villains. Perhaps that's why their appearance looks so uncanny compared to everyone else in Island Xtreme Stunts...

Ah, so the reason for the goofy expression is the flesh bag on his head is crooked.

Same year as today's randon set, 1376 - I swear this guy has just walked off that filming set! That is one hardworking individual right here.

That... is fascinating. Must definitely be some cartoon physics at play though, since the Bricksterbot heads, being square instead of round, definitely look like they'd be a little bigger than an average minifigure head piece...!

I definitely would believe the trouble with getting IXS running on PC; even in the late 00s, while I could get the game running on a then-modern computer ok, it would always crash out at the boat racing level, so I was never able to finish the main storyline. I may pick up the PS2 version at sooooome point to see if I can wrap it up for good, since that avoids the PC difficulties and I still do have an old PS2 around, but it's not been a priority since it wasn't my most favourite Lego game even without the crashing issue.

These are the questions nobody wants to explore. It's always "how does Doctor Wily keep coming up with new themes for his Robot Masters?", but never "why does he insist on giving his Robot Masters human faces, and incidentally, where exactly is he getting those faces from?"

Or maybe they could bring back the mold used for 8827-7 and 71002-16.

It's definitely lore in most of my family that the Brickster's gang operates with a strong Beagle Boys vibe. The extent of the family relationship varies between collections, though.
