Review: 42677 Dog Treats Bakery
Posted by MeganL,I lamented in a recent review about the lack of dogs accompanying a set. It seems that LEGO has largely addressed that inadequacy by giving canines their whole set - or at least a whole business geared to them - with 42677 Dog Treats Bakery.
There have been several bakeries in Heartlake City, but this is the first geared toward anything other than people!

A fun play set with plenty of dogs
- Four dogs!
- Lots of bakery treat
- Plenty of play value
- None
The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.
Inside the box there are three numbered bags, two instruction books, and a sticker sheet. The sticker sheet is about what I would expect for a set of this size.
Minidolls and animals
There are two minidolls in this set - Aliya and Sage. We've met Sage twice before - she must be a dog lover, considering one of those sets was 42641 Surfing Dogs and Scooter Adventure. She's in a new outfit here, with a floral shirt tied at the waist with some jeans. I particularly like her cool fedora - which is a hairpiece I don't think we've seen in this new generation of Friends.
Aliya from the regular crew is also here. I think she looks like she's ready for a round of tennis in her sleeveless red/pink/white top and short skirt. The sandals aren't quite tennis-ready, though....
There are four dogs in this set! First is Waffles the corgi, who we also saw in 42641, so it might be safe to assume that Waffles and Sage belong together. Next up is Frenchie, who is new (I think) to this set. Aira, Aliya's dog is the third dog. Frenchie and Aira both come with green ball caps, which seem to suggest that they're "employees" at the bakery.
Finally, there Chip, who looks very dapper in a pink fedora that matches Sage's. I'm not sure if this means that Chip also belongs to Sage, if so, this would be the first Friend that has more than one dog as a pet.
Because you can never see too much corgi butt, I had to include this shot.
The completed model
There are two small side builds with the set - a pet carrier and a menu board. The pet carrier is roomy enough for two of the smaller dogs. I'm not sure why it's needed – perhaps the dogs have eaten so many treats they can't walk?
The dog bakery looks quite bright and cheery with a pink and white colour scheme, orange shutters and a blue roof.
The rear view shows that there's plenty going on inside as well.
The front doors are quite welcoming - with one door for minidolls, and the other for dogs. The only downside here - Waffles and Frenchie don't fit through the pet door! Sticker details show the logo for the bakery, the sign on the window, and most importantly. a sign at the bottom of the door indicating that no cats are allowed. The image is of Churro, so let's hope he doesn't take it personally!
For those pets om the go, there are two windows for service. The orange shutters can be flipped up. Being pet centred, it's not surprising that one window is geared for dogs.....
.....or perhaps, some other creatures.
(Note: bakery visiting sloths not included in this set.)
Once inside, the bakery is filled with treats! There are two display cases with all kinds of bakery goodies - donuts, cookies, pet treat, and even a pink dog bone (the first I remember seeing that).
The rest of the space in the back includes a coffee machine (do dogs drink coffee?) and some undercounter appliances, including a fridge with a milk carton. There are even some steps at the side for the dogs to hop on the counter to help serve the customers.
Overall thoughts
I've said this before, but the ~$30 range of Friends sets is one of my favourites. A set like this is a good example of why! For not a lot of money, you get two minidolls, four dogs, and a rather nice building.
This set reminds me a lot of 42666 Cat Birthday Party from last year. That set also included plenty of animals and plenty of play value. It's also good value for money, especially if/when it goes on sale.

Dogs shouldn't drink coffee! Especially for those little puppers, even a single slurp might have enough caffeine to make them sick.
The fedora with hair head piece might be my favourite thing here, but it's quite nice and colourful overall. I do feel bad for all the canines in LEGO City who don't get as much treats...
My fav detail is that there are two displays - one for dogs and one higher one for humans
Even our in house theme Friends won’t hit the 10c ppp anymore…
I picked a copy of this up for my niece. I'm going to pick up a copy of this for myself as well.
Love the recolor of the pink bone, and the fire hydrant is a great idea!
Maybe the carrier is so the dogs don’t get their paws burnt on the way there!
I imagine the carrier is to make it easier for kids to move the dogs and their human as one group, there's no leashes in Heartlake. Without the cart, kids would have to use both hands to move the whole group and probably cramp the two dogs together... a very minor issue but I see the improvement for storytelling play.
Side note: when I first saw this building, I immediately thought it resembled a streetside ramen shop... I wonder if that was an inspiration or it was originally intended to be one (this wave ALSO includes the printed noodle box)

Don't worry, they only serve puppuccinos to the dogs here!
