Yu-Gi-Oh! competition on LEGO Ideas

Posted by ,

LEGO Ideas has kicked off a competition seeking entries that celebrate Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters.

The entry requirements are quite specific, so if you're up for a challenge, and you know anything about Yu-Gi-Oh (that counts me out then...), head to LEGO Ideas to find out more.

The winning entry will be made into a LEGO set, sometime in 2027 at this rate.

Yu-Gi-Oh appears to be some random Anime. Think you have to be a fan of Anime and Manga to know about it.

It was big in the '90s...

...and the '00s.

I was never into it myself, but several of my classmates had the cards and video games.

There was even a Hot Wheels series!

Since it only includes Duelist Kingdom and Battle City. Then someone please do a diorama of Kaiba threatening to off himself against Yugi. That way we get minifigures as well.

Ah, that one that wasn't Pokémon. Or Digimon.

Wanted to make a LEGO Duel Disk, but I guess that’s not what the guidelines are asking for?

Also where does it list the rewards for winning?

Yeah I loved watching it, still should have hundreds of trading cards somewhere.
But I don't consider it suitable for lego

About all I know about Yu-Gi-Oh is that it has a card called "Megatron." (I only know that because of the "Trademark" page on TFWiki, which mentions it. https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Trademark). That would not be the Lego Megatron we wanted.

Interesting. I wonder if that Ideas entry from a while ago might re-appear.
I imagine some may wonder why this is being done via Ideas, instead of just a straight collab a la Pokemon. I think this is a smart move tbh; Yu-Gi-Oh is undoubtedly a big IP with a sizable following to this day, but it never really reached the absolute ubiquity that Pokemon did. So, doing a one-off set in this way makes more sense.

Same! I've almost given up on sets - it really, really has to tickle my fancy in order to buy a new set - which mean trains stuff usually. (PAB is another matter, however - I buy a crud ton of that.)

Oh wow, I can't believe this is happening. Yu-Gi-Oh! is far from its prime, but they'll get me with nostalgia!

I don't remember if it happened in the anime because it's been so long, but it kind of has to be Blue-Eyes White Dragon versus Dark Magician. These are the most iconic monsters of that era. Not easy to translate into bricks.

I personally would like a Time Wizard. It's actually one of the first cards that I got, I was so happy... but then I left it in my pockets and it got DESTROYED by the washing machine...AAAAAAAAAAHH still hurts.
