Today's random figure is cc4448 Soccer Player Coca-Cola Defender 3, a Sports figure that came in one set, 4448 Defender 3, released during 2002.

By in Norway,

Another one of these stupid "Sportsball player without any actual ball included" sets ("Best without ball" is a common saying here about bad football players). It's dumb enough for the football sets, but utterly braindead when it comes to the basketball ones, where the ball is much more integral to the play feature of the figure's design.

@ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote a pretty scorching review of 3562 NBA Collection no. 3 as it neither contained a ball nor a hoop, and being the only basketball set he had he was never able to actually try its main play feature - sad.

@PurpleDave: Odd...thought you would have mentioned something about a 'burn unit/ward', as per the repartee on 17th...oh, well...:)

Also: Hey...hey, ya' a little something above yer' upper-lip...no, you haven't got it y...ok, you got the left, now you got to get the right...:D

"If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at Brick Owl or BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $5.00."

The only two new ones for sale in the world are $31.90 and $98.00.

That's around $5, right?

Ironically, buying the whole set new is much cheaper than buying the figure, despite the fact that the set has nothing but the figure in it. Lego economics are weird.

What is the problem with every player not getting their own a ball? This was a collectable series and the balls came in a separate polybag.

Why would anyone defend Coca Cola?

Probably a good thing they called this a soccer player, he sure doesn't look like a football player.

At least this guy has a rare torso that might cause him to be more collectible, if you’re into that sort of thing. How many times have we seen a RMotD that’s super expensive but made of common parts you could buy individually at a tenth of the price and just assemble into the figure yourself

The lack of printed or dual molded legs meant shorts were impossible at the time. And as for the head, he is obviously modelled on the Dutch defender Abe van den Ban.

A Japan Book Off trip netted me a couple of Cola Cola minifigs and a few other Japan exclusive small set parts amongst scattered 2000s bulk bags.

I'd like to buy the world a home
And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees
And snow white turtle doves

I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing

What the world wants today
Is the real thing

I kind of love that song. I don't know if I was old enough for Lego when it was in use or not.

That's what happens when people wantlist one thing, expecting it to be the cheapest option, and _EVERYONE_ELSE_ follows suit, causing the market to fuel the priceguide. You see it occasionally where Used parts cost a lot more than New.

I used to work in Amsterdam and the one of the lads I worked with grew up in Haarlem when he was playing. He used to wear a joke moustache when we had a work five a side competition in his honour.

Only 184 owned by members, that seems so low! I mean even if every one of the 184 members had all 11 of the players with branding (not including the 2 special ones) that's still only 2,024 minifigures!

Well, not everyone who has one is a Brickset member, and not every Brickset member tracks their collection.

It's exclusive to a Coca-Cola promotion that was only released in Japan nearly a quarter century ago.
