If that torso weren't printed with a feminine waistline, I'd be tempted to get a copy to make another sigfig with. (I say "another" because I'm not giving up the https://brickset.com/parts/6385283/mini-upper-part-no-5933 that my existing one has.) Maybe I'll get one anyway, do a gender-bent sigfig.

I never knew Ninjago existed in the same world as early space themes!

It appears CS, Mtron, Blacktron 2, Ice Planet all have fans. Did any other themes get references (not including the CMFs or remake/inspiration sets of recent years)?

Well, this is a Ninjago Movie fig, so not quite the same continuity.

A number of Ninjago sets, particularly the Ninjago City line, do have quite a few references to other themes scattered across them. Some are minifigure attire, while others are decorations.

Besides a Blacktron 2 fan, 70813 has a Fabuland fan. The rider in 60296 has the Bionicle double-B logo on the back of her jacket. And while it is a CMF, it's still worth noting that 71025 has a jacket sporting Blacktron 1, Classic Space, and M-Tron logos all over it.

As far as the Ninjago City line goes, the first three are listed as part of the TLNM line, while 71799 is listed as part of the Dragons Rising Season 1 subtheme and 71837 as part of Dragons Rising Season 3.

Braces? Our younger daughter currently has braces and they look nothing like this. Neither did the ones our older daughter had years ago - or any braces I have ever seen on their friends over the years or on my friends when I was their age.

This is what braces look like:

What the minifig is wearing looks like some weird fetish equipment to me.

Or some cheap imitation of Geordie's Visor that has accidentally dropped down.

Yeah these are the sort of braces I see in media but never in person. I’m assuming they’re just a wildly outdated orthodontic practice that’s just used for recognition

Come to think of it, I think I vaguely remember a scene from Police Squad, where Frank Drebin visits a dentist, with several kids in the waiting room having rather outlandish kinds of braces.

I had a contraption like this in my early teens back in the late 80s, they referred to it as a 'head gear'. The braces (which I also had) were for straightening the teeth, while this was was to correct my jaw alignment. It was essentially a choice between wearing this for 12 hours a day for a couple of years or having my jaw cracked, realigned and wired shut for a month... Not sure what they would do now a days as an alternative.

By in Canada,

I think I knew, like, one person growing up who wore something like headgear while they slept. It was much less common than 80s and 90s media made it seem like was back then, though.

So basically yes like I said it’s something that’s about 40 years old and possibly now outdated

Is the paddleboarder's torso supposed to be Paradisa-themed?

I had this type until about fifteen years ago. (2007 - 2012 was about when I had braces) It wasn't fun, but it was a better choice than mouth surgery and eating through a straw for a month! I'm sure they're still doing this stuff today.

Back in the day, it was metal brackets glued to your teeth. Then it was tooth-colored brackets, so they weren’t as obvious (but still every bit as painful). Now, it’s Invisalign, where they scan the exact shape of your teeth, and a computer generates a series of designs for what basically look like clear mouth guards, and you wear them in sequence. Because they’re molded to exactly fit your teeth, they can both push outward and pull inward at the same time, which is something traditional braces weren’t really capable of. Because they’re just clear plastic, if you do wear them in public, most people won’t even notice, unless they try to play tonsil hockey with you. And if that’s in the cards, they’re fully removable, so you can take them out first.

Metal brackets were still in use late 80’s/early 90’s. Tooth-colored ones were around at least by the mid-aughts, so sometime between 1995-2005, I’d think.

Well as I said, I got mine in 2007, so...
Maybe they were more expensive? My parents had five kids (me included) in braces at one time, so might that be it?

There’s also the expense. If there’s no functional difference between metal and whatever the white ones are made from, and there is a cost difference, frugal parents might make sure any “upgrades” are off the table before springing the news on their kid.
