Back in my bricklink selling days I got banned from buying online with argos. Never checked to see if I've been reinstated and have no inclination to find out

By in Czechia,

If I lived in UK I'd grab the Red Dragon's Tale for that price, however we barely get any promotions like that here

By in United Kingdom,

The Red Dragon’s Tale set is amazing; really glad I pulled the trigger on it during a previous Argos discount. I’m really hoping the Sea Serpent GWP comes out soon so I can dock something at it.

Did Argos explain why?

A badge to wear with pride!

The funniest moment I ever had was a Tesco Direct order to store. I showed up with a couple of big bags on my bike, then they rolled out a 6ft high cage trolley and said this was my order.

The Red Dragon's Tale is a good deal, I managed to get it from Argos for £220 last year, so might be worth holding out further?

Sorely tempted by the Tudor Corner Modular though.

It was because I only ever bought lego when it was on 3for2. They just said enough is enough, finito benito. Could still buy in store but of course they very rarely had 3 similar priced decent sets in the same store

Why would they do that?
They make the offer. You are the customer and take them up on the offer. You pay for the merchandise. I can't fathom why they would act the way you describe. Plus, what do they have to do with Bricklink? What is it to them that you sell there?

Very strange.

Especially online. In store, ok maybe if they’re fielding a lot of disgruntled customers.

When I was living in the UK, I only ever bought Lego at Argos when they were 3 for 2 or BOGO50%.
Very strange indeed. Nowadays, that's not even considered like an exceptionally good deal - it's just an OK deal - the only reason why it's fair it's because they do that kind of deal on desirable sets. Amazon in Canada does lots of great deals but mostly on sets nobody wants.

@Minifig290 Place a hashtag before the set number. That way we don't have to go back and forth looking for what the set is.

Indeed. And even then there are often better offers elsewhere. Plus, the stores I have ordered from so far never told me they don't want my business. I mean, what is Argos in the UK thinking? Why make an offer and when customers want to take them up on it tell them they don't want their business?
Or did @paulrothwell try to buy sets in the hundreds? If so, wouldn't it have been cheaper to buy from a wholesaler to begin with?

By in United Kingdom,

I was buying a lot of lego at the time. I spoke to one store manager and they told me staff had been told not to sell to resellers.
Now I have my own stores, if Lego is at 33% off in a retail store, it is actually cheaper than I can buy it direct from Lego, and Lego do not use distributors (I don't class Costco as a wholesaler as anyone can be a member).
Obviously now I am on the other side of the counter I can see the argument of not selling to resellers - not so much Lego, I would sell that to anyone, but we certainly limit Pokemon sales

By in United Kingdom,

Speaking as a manager, I get it. There's one, maybe two products in store where, if I hypothetically had a customer who wanted to buy all my stock, I would refuse the sale. Money in the till is usually the last word, but if I then have a week of customers walking away without the one product they came in for, it's not worth it.

Another thing I've noticed from this side of the counter is that often customers tend to think their particular spend in store is more significant than it really is. Ten loyal customers regularly spending below AOV are more valuable than one baller who only ever shows up a couple of times per year.

In Argos’s case, I doubt they worry about disappointing customers. For a company Sainsbury’s-Argos’s size, it’s not going to make much difference. That’s certainly been my experience with them. I suspect the not-selling-to-resellers policy is because once the 3-for-2 or sale is over and they revert to RRP, they don’t want to be undersold by their own customers.

Same. It was great for these types of Lego bargains when the catalogues changed over. That and getting multiple things in the one place at short notice where you can check the stock online and reserve before leaving the house. So many Irish shops just don't have that facility at all.

Yeah, I mean, I can't think of a single shop like argos
