Having just built the UCS Tumbler, I need this!!!!

^ I think that's why this should have been a real set not just a prize, wont everyone that has a Tumbler want one of these to go with it?

Don't like this promotion at all. Exclusive sets just exclude people who don't win one. And why is the American region getting 3 times the amount? The least they could do is provide an easy way to order a parts bag for things like this. That way the box and instructions are still "exclusive" but if you just want to build it it wouldn't involve sourcing rare parts yourself.

Pity for us in Europe that we can't enter via email like those in the U.S. can

By in United Kingdom,

I think it would be fair to have more in the US, for it is much larger than the UK. But for all of Europe? That isn't fair. It should have been 500 for Europe, 500 for US and Canada.

Email sent. I'm feeling lucky!!!

By in United Kingdom,

...Only to increase DC Comics sets sales! BOO!

By in United Kingdom,

Hang on - so Americans can get a free entry via email but us in Europe can't? That's frustrating. I take it they're trying to expand their mailshot distribution in the States, but over here they've already got a big list...

By in Sweden,

Sucks that the rules are different between the two regions.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think they're forced to give a "No purchase necessary" option by the US Government. It's nothing more than compliance with the law.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I would also strongly suspect legal reasons for the 'free entry' in the US compared to a 'forced buy' entry in Europe.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Is it one email or thirty emails?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^I believe you can enter once a day until the end of the promotion, yes.

Do I have to be a VIP to enter via email? Not that I want this huge motorcycle thing of course...

Apart from the tyres it doesn't look difficult to replicate. Get over it re competitions. I want to win the lottery but only a few do - jeez that's so unfair (throws teddy bear in corner of room)

I think the minifig giveaways are great. (You buy a series 13 fig enter a code, someone wins a big set). Theres a big difference between giving lucky winners something for free, and giving lucky winners something for free whilst withholding it from everyone else.

As usual, this kind of promotions are only for US and Europe. There are tons of AFOLs spread over the globe Lego!

By in United States,

For "a chance to win"??? I don't think so.

And yes, it's US law that there has to be no purchase necessary. Otherwise it's a form of gambling, which is regulated. Or something like that.

I agree with comments made that making this exclusive just rubs it in people's face that unless they win, they can't have one. Not too bright in my opinion, but then again, they do it every year at Comic Con don't they?

I'd really like this, but even if I did win it would be hard to justify opening it seeing as it would be worth so much money. Maybe it would be easier to not win. I actually wish my existing unopened Lego (unopened purely because I don't have the time/space to build everything) didn't appreciate. Lego already costs a lot, but I don't want to be put in a position in future where I don't want to build something because my Super Star Destroyer (for example) has now tripled in value.

Interesting - always thought the UK Gambling Act states you if you have to pay to enter, and it's then purely down to chance, it's considered a lottery - for which you need a license - which are only given to non-profit organisations.

If you have to pay, but there's an element of skills - it's classed as a competition, which does not require a license (hence those dumb questions on day-time TV).

Even McDonalds offer a 'no purchase necessary' form for their Monopoly games - albeit they make it hard to find.

Edit: OK, so in the UK, the rules changed in 2007 - if you have to buy a product to enter a competition - as long as there is no increase in price for that product, or any reduction in what you get when you buy it, it does not constitute payment to enter, and so is allowed without requiring a 'no purchase necessary' option.

These contests, limited exclusives (Comic Con) really turns me away from Legos. They know that there is a market for this, but they are doing a limited release. I feel like this system benefits resellers (people who just wanna make a buck) versus true fans of Legos. It is sad but it makes me want to buy their products less and less.

By in United States,

I'm in America and I sent an email entry. It bounced.

By in United States,

Oddly enough I'm getting postmaster delivery failures even though the email address is correct?

By in Canada,

The new Ninjago Ghost instructions are now at customerservice.lego.com!!!!!!!! SOMEONE ADD THEM TO DA DATABASE!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@CurtisL

Same thing happened to me. I got an email in Danish saying there's a problem with the recipient's mailbox. Tried again, same thing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think limited exclusives are dumb. I severely limited the sets I buy because I save money for these exclusives and I dont always save enough. Ridiculous!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had the same experience as a few of you from the U.S. - clicked through to the link, followed the directions, and sent the email, then got an error message in Danish.

I then tried again just going to LEGO.com separately and searching for Bat-Pod, and found the info on the contest again, and.... got the same error message in Danish. :-(

I certainly don't object to a company in Denmark sending message in Danish, but considering how they say that they use English for working at TLG I thought that was odd.

Hopefully they get this figured out. There's a few things I'd like to pick up at the LEGO store at the MOA but certainly can't buy something once a day for 30 days!

By in United States,

I had the same problem sending an e-mail today as well.

Limited... rare... exclusive... win..... THIS IS SO NOT RIGHT!

By in Malaysia,

Dear Lego and Huw, forgive me for saying this, by making this a super exclusive set that only a very few will ever get, this set just screams "PLEASE MAKE A KNOCK-OFF of ME!" and "PLEASE SCALP ME!".

The best example is the SDCC Phoenix and Green Lantern where the KO companies saw an opportunity to make something with high demand and with no other way to obtain it other than to pay a ridiculous price. In a few months once the instructions are out and this set commands an insane price on the secondary market the KOs will come out too.

To me TLG is simply being greedy here. Currently the only way to obtain the key parts to build the Bat Pod ... is to buy another Tumbler. I hope the tires come out in another set otherwise this set will be impossible to build unless I have another spare Tumbler to take apart.

Years ago I read how some was disappointed regarding the SDCC Phoenix or how upset they would be if suddenly Lego decide to (as an example) make a UCS perfect AT-AT as a SDCC exclusive. Looks like this Bat Pod will be the equivalent to the example of the perfect AT-AT that can only to bought at SDCC.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just buy the tires online and build it yourself. Looks really easy. No need to win the silly competition.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Well, not sure if they let it slide, but I am participating with a US shipping address even though I am in Europe. No way I am going to buy a set every day for a month when all I want is a companion piece to my Tumbler...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

One thing that really bugs me is that even though it is more expensive to participate in the sweepstakes in Europe due to the need to purchase vs. the ability to send a mail, they also decided to lower your chances by making less sets available.

So:
- US customers pay nothing times 30 and have 750 chances to win
- European customers pay at least the price of the cheapest set times thirty and only have 250 chances to win

Oh well, Life ain't fair!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

^ true, but you could look at it as because all entries in the EU are 'paid' entries, there will be far fewer entries, and therefore greater chance of winning.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have already written a letter to Lego and they told me that they are passing the message along. I agree that is just like the SDCC giveaways. I consider myself a pretty avid fan of the superhero lines. Unfortunately, as long as they continue to profit, they are allowed to make these kind of "bad calls." Only when the money goes away, does it bring about actual change.

I have heard you will get the error if you do not send from the same email address that is associated with your VIP account.
