I Love that Minifigure Zombie Skateboarder
Posted by Huw,
The minifigure that will be attached to the forthcoming DK book I Love That Minifigure was revealed yesterday and DK has just sent us a picture. It will be a zombie skateboarder based on the minifigure from series 1 of the Collectable Minifigures, which fits right in with the theme of the series 14.
You can read the synopsys of the book and pre-order it from Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. It's set for publication at the beginning of October.

I might just be pointing out the obvious here, but it's interesting that the Zombie Skater is included here, as the regular Skater was the flagship series 1 minifig. Does this symbolise the end of the collectible minifigure? Or that the collectible minifigures will return in a different way? Or am I just reading way too deep into this?
I think you're reading way too deeply into it!
Looks really fun, it's a shame that I don't collect the DK books though!
Wow LEGO fans really overthink things. lol
Besides, the zombie was the flagship series 1 minifig :)
If anything it means the CMF line will never die.
I imagine he's supposed to complement the three other zombified CMFs in the next wave: the Pirate, Businessman, and Cheerleader. They're all zombie versions of existing CMFs, so what's one more?
The resemblance to the original skater minifigure is...chilling.
The Zombie was the flagship for Series 1, and this is the fifth year of the CMF line. It's possible that to complement the five years, they produced a few more Zombies in honour of the first flagship CMF.
I was not keen when I heard what it was but the fact that its based on the series 1 fig makes it a lot better.
I get a real kick out of the fact that the skull and crossbones on his shirt (and on the new Zombie Pirate minifigure's hat) has crossed-out eyes. You know, so you don't confuse it for one of those not-dead skeletons. XD
In general, this guy is a hilarious shout-out to Minifigures Series 1. He's a great likeness to the Series 1 skateboarder, only all his clothes are tattered and his confident smirk is starting to decay!
Pardon my ignorance, but what is a flagship minifig? One that is the most heavily promoted in the series? Most available? Most popular?
Thanks!
In this context, which isn't quite how 'flagship' is usually used: most sought after.
Something strange is going on in Denmark...
Lame, just plain lame.
Huh... I was wondering what happened to him after series 1. Guess rail grinding went horribly wrong...
Looks cool, my space town needs more aliens.
@Aanchir, I don't like the crossed out eyes on the top, I mean he has been made into a zombie at some point by why has the design on his jumper changed, same with the pirate hat and the Z on the cheerleader, it seems like someone is making clothes for people who have been turned into zombies.
The skull on the shirt is my favorite part of this figure! It's really cute and I think I'll get this product just for that torso piece.
Did you notice that everything is the same besides the color of the zombies and prints? As in the Skater?
This has to be one of the first times Lego has killed off a minifigure that existed in living form (Vitruvius being the only other example I could think of).
What can a say but 'neat-o'
Know here's a thought, they should/could have redone the entire first series, as Zombies.
I guess one could be cynical here and say that this fig is a testament to the repetitiveness of the CMFs, but it's too cool of a callback to the first series to do that. I'm loving the new Monsters series and this fig will go along with them very well.
But seriously, I'm ready for something new. I'm ready for Disney CMFs (fingers crossed)!
@MarkoPolo: There was also a dead Aquaraider in one of the Atlantis sets.
@SMC: That ridiculousness is exactly what I love about that feature to be honest! It's a little visual joke, nothing more, and taking it too seriously kind of defeats the point.
@legogeek: That's a cute idea, but perhaps not the most practical. Zombie Clown, Zombie Magician, Zombie Nurse, Zombie Ninja, and Zombie Cowboy could be brilliant figs, but things get a bit iffy when you get to Zombie Robot and Zombie Dummy, and then fall apart completely when you have to figure out how to make a Zombie Zombie. =P
@Aanchir .... that is what's brilliant though - a zombie robot & zombie crash-test dummy, and best of all, a zombie zombie! :D
The zombie should be the only one that's not a zombie.
@SMC that would be quite creepy! Imagine a group of 16 individuals with only one guy in a business suit that hasn't turned. And it turns out he's okay because the others are zombies :D
Also, ZOMBIE FORESTMAN! And scariest of all: ZOMBIE CLOWN!
But seriously, quite a nice figure! I might get a lego book for the first time :)
^^Oh, yes. I like you. You should work for Lego.
Wait, so this poor skateboarding kid was minding his own business one day when he was turned into a zombie?
That's so sad.
Damn it Lego. Can you cure zombies? I'm really unsettled by that now.
I'm taking it that everyone in the next CMF series, as well as Zombie Skateboarder, are just people wearing makeup and costumes. Although two of the CMFs are clearly ghosts with spectral legs, so...
^I think you are probably right. Several of them *look* like they're wearing costumes. The ghost ones could be people who died from eating too much candy...
Awesome! I must have this....
That reminds be of LEGO ROCK BAND. In all unlockables those alien imposters occupied almost the half roster. :p
Since I wasn't into the CMF skaters already, a zombie skater may not really interest me. But the trick on his jacket print looks interesting, indeed.
@Aanchir
> how to make a Zombie Zombie. =P
Wait, what about curing that Zombie!?
Cool, a zombiefied CMF... this has potential for LEGO comics. :P Of course, I don't own any of them, much less the Skater, so what would I do with this?
Kind of late, but heads up to people in the US, the book is under $12 at Amazon for preorder as of this writing. Not too bad if you just want the figure and plan to pass off or sell the book.
