Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 12

Posted by ,

Hopefully our quota of weapons racks is fulfilled with today's gift. Although I am glad to get some arms for the Stormtrooper and any minifigures coming in the next few days, the weapons ought to appear with the figures and the gun racks should be replaced with something more interesting.

However, I can appreciate when some effort has gone into making the designs interesting, as it was on day six when the Ewok drum was revealed. Unfortunately today's model features no such flourishes and it is disappointingly bland in its structure, consisting of nothing more than a couple of clips and some controls.

The only positive I can comment on is the presence of three different kinds of blaster. At least this boring model is functional and provides a variety of weapons.

Overall - 1.5 - A poor showing today. Not only are weapons racks the weakest aspect of the Star Wars Advent Calendar but this is an exceedingly dull design.

Would have been better if it could somehow be configured into a turret.

I'd have given it a higher mark, to be honest. Sure, I don't want weapons racks, but at least they are trying to make them look interesting. They're definitely better than they used to be. Well, lets hope this is the last one, because all of the minifigs who would have weapons have them now.

By in France,

How often do we get all 3 types of blaster in one set though? The long blaster hasn't been seen for a while and is very welcome!

Rly? It's 3 at least

Imo it's the best gun rack in an Advent Calender yet.

Yeah, definetely one of the better gun racks.
And one of each guns.
3/5 imho, better than the ewok village.

I'm happy to have 3 different types of blasters. The long one/rifle I've never had! However, these weapons should be included with minifigs.

Another weapons rack and I'm sure the Lego community will start a revolution.

First weapon rack was on the 6th day.
Second weapon rack was on the 12th day.
I don't know about you, but I feel that a trend is developing here and we might see another weapons rack on the 18th day. Dunno.

I like having all 3 kinds of blaster, sure, but the gun rack itself was just so uninteresting to me I didn't even bother to build it this morning... that says a lot about this model I suppose. Hope tomorrow might be better...

If I have anything good to say though - at least all the guns seem like they actually belong here :oP

I'd take a nicely-designed weapons rack like this one over a poorly-realised micro model any day. I do wish the minifigures came with their own accessories, though...

Half way through: some good parts and builds, but not enough ship minibuilds.

I was hoping for something more interesting on my birthday :-(

I think both of these gun racks look great!

After some drab builds in the past few days - I mean, minifigs, what the heck and then some miniscule derivative of some kind of triangular ship, you've got to be kidding me - finally something worth waiting for!

I enjoyed this build enormously. The end result is fantastic. It shows you what can be achieved with just a few bricks. Brilliant!

Oh, how I hope there'll be quite a few of these gunracks in the days to come. Not those boring minifigs and please, please, not another dull ship like a millenium falcon or the like.

Anyway, where's that medicine the nurse promised me?

Um, yeah. Those were not the pieces that came out of our calendar today. Still not sure if the bags just got mixed up.

I think if you had orders to make a weapons rack using 12 pieces, three of which had to be the weapons themselves, this is actually a really good outcome. But, yes, I agree that the weapons should be coming with the minifigures. When you put the three-pack of minifigures at the LEGO store, you get a weapon/accessory, and when I buy them on Craigslist I usually get the same.

I'd prefer a brick-built droid, like the Gonk Droid, to go with the Ewoks if they couldn't fit in another minifig price-wise.

It's obviously an Imperial expresso machine. The blasters are just a decorative flair.

I'd have given it a 2.5 for the long blaster.

Sadly, this is not the last gun rack. There is another that is practically identical to this one, with a control panel on the side to distract from its lameness.
