"Angry Birds Action!" app released; integrated with the LEGO sets!
Posted by TheBrickPal,
Rovio Entertainment is trying to make the most out of their big screen debut on May 20th with The Angry Birds Movie. Of course, they have got The LEGO Group to help with the merchandising. And yes, while the new building sets themselves offer a lot with what's in the boxes, I have now discovered that there is more to them than meets the eye... on the box itself!
Rovio today announced and launched the new app game Angry Birds Action!, designed to help promote the upcoming film. Check out the launch trailer below, then discover more on where I'm going with this after the break...
If you didn't notice, the same symbol used to scan and unlock extra content in this game is the same one on all six of the LEGO The Angry Birds Movie set boxes. At first, I thought it was just cool box artwork, but nope! This scan-able symbol is being called a 'BirdCode'. Rovio is also teaming up with McDonald's, Pez, Walmart and more to spread this initiative, partnering with augmented reality technology Zappar. Even the movie itself will unlock bonuses if one uses the game to scan the end credits!
And what do the LEGO sets unlock? Well, whether you scan the BirdCodes in-store or at your house, the game unlocks special power-ups for you and also presents 3D interactive models of the sets, depending on which box you scan. You can even play little mini-games using the models.
Now I'm wondering if this was Rovio's plan to use LEGO for this from the beginning... but no matter! The app is now available worldwide. Click the main image at the top of this article to download it... and have fun!
Also, towards the end of May I will be publishing an article about how the LEGO sets compare to the scenes of The Angry Birds Movie. Stay tuned...

Interesting, but sort of like Nexo Powers, all you need is to look up the images on your computer and scan them from ther :P
Go into Tru, scan every lego angry birds box... and you will have all lego birdcodes without purchasing even one set!
What an exuberant article!
But are there explosions?....
^ Yes! ;-)
couldn't you just go to the store and scan these codes with your phone though? would this steal the person who purchases the Lego set code?
Nope, because they are not unique codes or anything. You don't even need to go to a store to do it. Justuse the pictures of the boxes online.
