Review: 75926 Pteranodon Chase
Posted by Huw,
The 126-piece 75926 Pteranodon Chase is the lowest-priced of this year's Jurassic World boxed sets.
It offers the film's main protagonist in minifig form and 'catch the pterosaur with a net' playability.
Minifigures
Owen Grady crops up in four sets in two guises. This is the most common, appearing in three sets. His head is the same as that in 75928 Blue's Helicopter Pursuit; you can see the other side of it in my review. He's armed with a tranquiliser gun.
A female jeep driver is also included, attired in the ubiquitous dark blue with black utility vest that all the trackers, guards and other unnamed characters wear in this year's sets. She has a double sided head, you can view the other expression in a picture below.
Pteranodon
The pterosaur is the same as those in the 2015 Jurassic World and 2012 Dino themes. It's a great looking creature, there was no need to change it.
Here it is with its predecessors.
Jeep
On the face of it the jeep looks pretty cool. It's neatly designed, with opening doors and some nice contouring around the wheel arches. I'd have preferred there to have been more dark blue than grey pieces used, thouugh.
One of the new net shooters, which also appear in this years City Police sets, is mounted on the back. We'll come to that in a minute...
As a stand-alone model it looks alright but next to a minifigure, frankly, it looks ridiculous. Her head is barely the same height as wheel arches. How she clambers in is anyone's guess. I suppose it needed to be this size to suit the net shooter.
Playability
It's the first time I've had a chance to play with the shooter. Does it work as well as I expected it to? Probably, yes. Does it work as well as I wanted it to? Definitely not. It shoots the net, for sure, but only about 10-15cm or so, so it's a nice gimmick but not really that impressive.
Sorry Owen! Malfunction!
My Jurassic World reviews are not complete without a minifig being eaten so I'll leave you with this...
Verdict
This set offers the cheapest way to get an Owen Grady minifigure and a cool prehistoric animal, but chances are that, like me, you already have several pterosaurs so if you're planning on buying others in the theme with Owen in you can probably skip this one.
The jeep is well made but way over-scale and while that won't bother the target age group, it did me. The net shooter is a nice idea but it doesn't really work as well as you'd want it to.
Price-wise, at $19.99 / £19.99 / 24.99€, it's not as outrageous as many in the theme, but it still feels a little unsubstantial for that price.
A reasonable little set, then, but it offers nothing that makes it a required purchase.
Thanks to LEGO for providing the set for review, which is an expression of my own opinions.

Needs more substance for that price
Is it wrong that I saw Jurassic World review and scrolled straight down to find the 'inevitable mishap' photo!!
Great review as always, will probably save my money for any reduced larger Jurassic sets
To be honest, it feels like Lego doesn't care about Europe any more. Study one: that helicopter from Jurassic world. And study two is this.
I got this set to get the updated Owen with the updated Chris Pratt face (I had Owen from the previous Jurassic world line) and another reason I got this set is because I didn't have a pterosaur. Also the net shooter looked interesting.
The overabundance of Chris Pratt face is helpful to pick one and swap it for Star Lords face.
The 4x4 jeep is fine, i love the net launcher i knew when i first saw it in a city set it would be used for JW sets too..
Frankly there are two sets in the jurassic world theme which are better than this.
This is
1) Chris Pratt with a big truck and a dino-bird
2) Owen Grady with a jeep and a Pterosaur
3) overpriced
4) incredibly forgettable.
Forgot the dino egg! Doesn't really make a difference in worth anyways :)
Good review as always Huw. Love the "inevitable mishaps"!
"126 pieces? Can't be that expensive then... oh dear."
This 'inevitable mishap' is highly unlikely though as Pteranodons tend to eat fish
Great review though! It makes me laugh when they make cars that are even wider than the trains!
I like trains so cars should be thinner
If LEGO thinks THAT is the way to counter declining sales then they are in for an unpleasant surprise imho.
I think the set is nice
... it could have been perfected if they had added some “Jurassic jungle elements” without touching the price though.
I know next to nothing about JW, but could it be that in the movie the jeeps are jacked up to help them deal with the difficult terrain? If so, the car's exaggerated clearance in this set may reflect the source material.
I was initially quite interested in this theme, and I usually hate when others complain about price, but this is just crazy. I understand it's licensed and the dino moulds are 'special' but seriously, AUD $34.99! For 126 pieces? The Speed Champions Ford Fiesta is 203 pieces and is covered in trademarks, Pulsar, Castrol, Ford, WRC, etc. Presumably these all had to be cleared and it retails at $22.99 in Australia. By comparison this should be at least the same price, if not the more common price point of AUD $19.99. I guess it's lucky I only had a passing interest, looks like no dinos for me. For a theme that I would assume is aimed mostly at young kids (ie: parents) those prices are ridiculous.
Ridiculous 'Jeep'.
The contrast between this and the Ant-Man Quantum Realm Explorers set is stark. 2 $20 sets. One has greebly design and evokes exploration, with interesting characters and unique helmets, the other is a bland car with a net-shooting element stuck on the back, and a flying lizard that the car can't hit 8 inches away. Lego, more of the first please!
Well the dinosaur eats up $5-$8 of the price of this, but yeah..... Ant Man set for the win.
And Owen Grady aged 20 years since the last movie because that face looks OLD!
