Review: 41627 Luke Skywalker & Yoda
Posted by CapnRex101,
41627 Luke Skywalker & Yoda is the latest in a series of BrickHeadz twin packs that contain one standard figure beside a smaller character. This is a great idea and I have been particularly looking forward to the BrickHeadz rendition of Master Yoda!
Luke Skywalker appears plain by comparison, more closely following the standard BrickHeadz template. Nevertheless, the dark tan figure matches Luke's appearance towards the end of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back so this should prove to be a superb twin pack.
The Completed Model
Each figure stands on a 6x6 display base, matching the other BrickHeadz which have been released during 2018. Yoda appears rather small in relation to his base but I think the models look great as the black colour scheme contrasts with Luke Skywalker and Yoda, both of whom are primarily tan or dark tan.
LEGO could have chosen several different versions of Luke Skywalker for transformation into a BrickHeadz model. This figure takes inspiration from the latter stages of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back when Luke travels to Cloud City and it looks great in relation to the film. However, a more colourful design would perhaps have been preferable. I think he would have looked particularly appealing in an orange Rebel Alliance flight suit.
Despite its plain colour scheme, Luke's uniform looks good in my opinion. The pockets and metallic silver belt buckle printed on two dark tan bricks are accurate to the source material but these printed designs do not line up perfectly, unfortunately. The belt is excellent though, featuring a clip where you can attach Luke's lightsaber and a couple of reddish brown 1x1 brackets that depict pouches. A trans-light blue blade for the lightsaber is also included.
The hairstyle is fairly simple but looks brilliant in relation to the movie, consisting primarily of dark tan curved slopes and featuring five 1x1 quarter circle tiles which have not appeared in this useful colour before. Luke carries a blaster pistol in his right hand and a dark brown 1x2 tile, representing a holster, is fixed to the character's thigh.
Yoda is constructed at a smaller scale than Luke Skywalker, matching such other characters as Olaf from 41618 Anna & Olaf and Rocket Raccoon from 41626 Groot & Rocket. This design is perfect for the Jedi Master and I like Yoda's long robe, the front of which is decorated with some creases and a reddish brown tunic beneath the robe.
The billowing sleeves look marvellous too, featuring a couple of sand green 1x1 clips that form hands. These pieces are only available in one other set and several of the other sand green components are similarly rare. Furthermore, a tan 2x2 curved slope is attached to the back of the figure, representing Yoda's folded hood which lines up quite nicely with his hair.
I like the texture provided by a few exposed studs on Yoda's hair and his pointed ears look wonderful, making ingenious use of two sand green teeth. These are connected to the core of the model using a white headlight brick on either side and some 1x1 slopes, also placed sideways, complete the figure's head. Such clever building techniques are particularly prevalent on the smaller BrickHeadz characters.
Overall
The appeal of BrickHeadz models is often determined by the character upon which they are based. This rendition of Luke Skywalker looks pretty good on the whole but does not stand out beside other figures with a more attractive colour scheme, hence my interest in a different model wearing a Rebel Pilot's uniform. Yoda, on the other hand, looks fantastic and is probably my favourite of these smaller figures!
41627 Luke Skywalker & Yoda is therefore a worthy addition to the BrickHeadz collection and I would recommend it, although Luke Skywalker could have been improved. Perhaps a more detailed version of the character will be released in a subsequent wave.

Yoda is amazing, great design
I just finished Just2good's review of this set and bling! Brickset's review appears. It must be the Luke and Yoda Brickheadz hour. :D This is my favorite Brickheadz set to date, I think.
Awesome Yoda. Luke's hair and suit being the same color bugs me, though...
This one could be the very first BH set (but for BH 41597 create your own BH models) that I will get. I really like Yoda and the 3x3 design, the head and body are really good to me, particularly the printed tile which shows and brings so much with such a few print. And if the choice of Luke in his Bespin attire is not the best IMO (even if coherent with recent new Cloud city release), it still is recognizable and not that bad. But this Yoda rendition is so cute! Thanks for the good review this time again.
This isn't the best review to illustrate my point, but I noticed a lot of reviews recently don't include building progress images. I'd really like to see them. Otherwise, visually there's not much separating the reviews from the official images.
Buy i must.. Hmmmm lol,
I recently made luke and Han in minidoll form and i desperately want Vaders Castle and i might buy these two and Bobba fett:
Hmmm does this look like Indiana Jones to anybody else? ;)
I've never heard of this... "Star Wars", so I'm not too interested in these sets.
I thought it was important to let everyone know.
AWWWWW, Yoda is just so CUTE!!!!!!!
@speshy - We do document the entire construction process where appropriate and often include images to show the internal design, as in this review. However, we will try to do so more consistently in the future as interesting building techniques are certainly something that should be acknowledged.
Hmpf, cute this little green one is.
Must have Yoda! Luke is okay, but Yoda is so cute, and he has so much sand green (my favorite Lego color)
Yoda would be nice for the sand green.
@CapnRex101 thanks capn!
Yoda’s great and I’m not sure why they paired him with the late great Steve Irwin but that’s also pretty awesome.
@Nick: Magnifique
Smart they are. But I really wish, Yoda's staff would have been a new mold.
As for the wands in Harry Potter's theme, this plain stick didn't appeal right to me (too technical, too abstract). Thankfully, that has changed since 2018 sets. To represent any kind of magical staff, this stick part is out of date! Check the force!
I’m my opinion Brickheadz are a hit or miss. There are some that are amazing but others that are pretty mediocre. That being said, this is one of the better Brickheadz sets. Not sure if I’ll pick it up but for what it is they look like neat little builds.
@Leg0liver: Perhaps for a Yoda minifigure I might agree, though with BrickHeadz it's not too uncommon for the accessories to be simplified or made more geometric in a similar way to the figures themselves. Compare with any of the blasters from the other Star Wars BrickHeadz, the wands from the Harry Potter BrickHeadz, or the accessories of the Back to the Future and Jurassic World BrickHeadz. Sometimes this comes down to scale (with regular minifig accessories perhaps seeming too small for the taller, chunkier BrickHeadz figures) but other times it seems like it's just as much a stylistic choice.
Not to mention, if they did create a unique staff for this BrickHeadz version of Yoda, it might wind up being too big for the minifigure version.
first block headz i actually want to buy:)
Yoda awesomeness
Picked this up for 7,99 euro... Probably a pricing mistake on the website I ordered :)
