It appears that metallic versions of pieces also get their own things, since this says the piece only came in 76215 (R.I.P.), when it most definitely didn't.
Oh, and it's used for the silver highlights around the nose area. Nearly forgot my whole spiel there.
@Randomness: Silver and Gold ink pieces (and probably Drum Lacquered pieces, although I don't know for sure)have their own mold so the the ink doesn't make the piece two thick. Another recent Silver InkRPotD (https://brickset.com/article/90073/random-part-of-the-day-triangular-sign-w-snap-no-1) also only appeared in one set.

Correct. They are also given their own Design IDs.
Flattest nose I've ever seen.
@TheOtherMike:
Ink and drum-lacquered are the same thing.

Okay, now I'm definitely never gonna be able to unsee that
@PurpleDave:I assumed so, but you know what they say what happens when you assume.
Looks like one of the -arangs a Bat-family member would throw

I mean, the names don’t seem related _at_all_, and it is entirely possible they’re considered two different processes internally, but based on personal observations, I think it’s more likely they just changed the terminology at some point. I no longer hear of parts being identified as drum-lacquered, while silver ink and gold ink are terms I don’t recall hearing until more recently, and I’ve seen both applied fairly authoritatively to the same result. And of course, Bricklink has a separate term. Peeron/LDraw might have a fourth term, too. It certainly does get messy at times.
@Brickalili:
Triangle Man is totally unrelated to DC continuity. Kite Man, maybe, but he’s a Z-grade villain (which is apparently good enough to get his own spinoff series on HBO Max).
@PurpleDave: It's always interesting (and sometimes frustrating seeing how the different Lego fansites categorize things.

Back when the online AFOL started forming, we didn’t really have any info regarding official part or color names, so it was really up to members of the community to figure out how to define everything. On the one hand, a lot of our names made more sense (who the heck would have expected them to name trans-black trans-brown instead?). On the other hand…there was no authoritative body to make sure everything stayed consistent. Peeron and LDraw formed an agreement where they would match each others’ names, but then Bricklink came along and chose to go their own way. It was hard to predict whose name would make more sense. Peeron/LDraw called one color Caramel because it’s the exact color of Brach’s caramels. Of course, I had to argue with Peeron a long time to convince them that trans-neon-yellow was definitely not just trans-yellow…and then they named it trans-peach.
