The mini Podracers from 2003 immediately came to mind :-)
I remember getting 1374 as a kid and thinking this was the coolest piece ever just because it was clear. I “swooshed” Green Goblin around a lot…
Easily one of the best pieces for people making Quidditch scenes.
Oh, and other flying things, but also, Quidditch is terribly confusing, and deserves an explanatory display. I'd go to a brick convention for that.
That's a long shaft.
@Robot99: Speaking of podracers, 7962 from 2011 used some in trans-red, as well, although those were a different version of the mold.
Tried to have first comment but got shafted
I was just at a Lego Show where the brick pit had a bunch of these (Other mold version) in Trans Neon Orange. It was fun to make fun stuff with them.
Shaft!
The ol’ reliable for mid-air pieces in stop motion.
I have no idea how many clear flight sticks I have at this point. I’d pick up 50 here, 100 there, and they just quietly disappear over time. The last time we put them on LUGBulk, I got 200…and then I used 35 just for Santa’s Sleigh.

This version was introduced in 2016, with 75827. The original version had solid studs like a 2x4 brick, while the current version has recessed ones like a jumper plate. There was an intermediate bersion, and I don’t know how that one was different from either of the other two, but I think the third version finally eliminated the air bubbles.
And the mini podracers used a clear version of the original X-Wing cannon. The only Podracers that used one of these was 7962 (2nd Gen in trans-dark-pink for power couplings), and 30461 (3rd Gen in trans-clear).
Great for posing figs and vehicles in midair. I love these little guys!
Given how often this piece is supposed to represent free floating items and isn’t supposed to actually be there, would have been very funny if the picture had just been blank. Shame this came a couple of days late for April 1st
I got this piece in the batwing. I tend to use it however to pose minifigures to look like there flying around with it.
So useful for displaying flying or jumping things as drones or super heroes, birds, fighting Ninjas and so on. I always have a spare bunch of them.

Eliot and E.T. on a red bicycle above, Dustin and D’artagnan on a black bicycle flying Upside-Down below them….
What, am I the only one who does that?

Yet, those sets never actually include them. I'd need a bunch for my Iron Men
I mostly think of these as skateboard stunt sticks; I remember that I first encountered them (or, the original version anyway, https://brickset.com/parts/design-42445) in 6738, where they attach to Pepper and co.'s backpacks to play them doing skateboarding tricks without having to touch the minifigures directly.
Interestingly, though, the ones in that set were light grey rather than the transparent that you would expect for that purpose.
Does anyone know what “12M” means in “ Shaft 12M” since it clearly not millimeters? Could it be 12 studs long? (I’m not home while reading this.)

“M” used as a dimension means “module”, according to CCBS lore. I don’t know the full XYZ dimensions, but I’ve always understood a Module to be equivalent to a stud, at least in terms of strict linear dimensions.
The true magical item when attached to Hogwarts brooms!

Watch your mouth!
(If you know the song, you know)
Anyone/anywhere got a 'size chart' for these type of 'flight-sticks' and the like to compare short-to-tall (or long) to get an idea of range?

If you know the song, it’s “_Shut_ your mouth”.

I tend to use LDraw for that sort of thing, if I don’t have the part in question. Anyways, all three generations of this part have the same basic dimensions. It’s small details like the solid vs recessed studs that you have to watch out for.
