The LEGO Movie Blu-Ray box artwork

Posted by ,

This image of the TLM Blu-Ray box has surfaced on a number of websites (this could be the original source). We can now see the exclusive Vitruvious minifigure fairly well.

It will be available at WalMart in the USA but we have no word of availability in other countries. WalMart is quoting a release date of 12 August which seems to suggest a much longer cinema-to-DVD release period than most films these days. Maybe that's because it still hasn't been in cinemas in some countries yet...

Aw, shucks. I was worried that this minifigure would just use the same cape as the existing Vitruvius fig, and turns out I was right. So it's not quite accurate to the movie's opening scenes, in which Vitruvius wears the same robe as the Minifigures Series 5 Graduate and Minifigures Series 9 Judge. Still a nice fig, though, and glad to see that we will be getting this fig in some form.

August release date would make sense, as that lines up with the rumoured release date for Benny's Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship :D Sorry, but it is as fun to type as it is to say :)

@Aanchir: Who knows, it could just be a preliminary image slapped onto that cover. I wouldn't be surprised if it were subject to change between now and the time of release.

Well it would just be nice to see the movie. Still have to wait for nearly another month for it be in the cinemas here. I don't know why they couldn't have released the movie along with the rest of the world here at close to the same time.

That'll stink if the minifig is a WalMart exclusive, since that'll probably mean that the package is saddled with a Vudu only digital copy of the film, rather than a choice of digital services.

The Riddler - The date may be referring to a US release, and new DVDs come out on Tuesdays here. Also, this will likely be a 3 disc release - one disc each for the BluRay, 3D BluRay and DVD - the digital copy is a download, not on its own disc.

12th of August! That's an awfully long time! I might just have to see it in cinemas one more time... :-)

Aw, no staff or movie-accurate cape. Pass for me.

By in United States,

I think it said 45 dollars which is pretty high. I don't care how many disk are in there it shouldn't be that high.

The RRPs on DVD and Blu-Ray are commonly discounted 30-50% by release day.

WooHoo! Released just in time for my birthday. Guess I know what film I'll be asking for. The exclusive fig is just a bonus, since we were highly likely to buy the film anyways!

^same here

Considering how far off the release date is, I'd venture to guess that this is preliminary artwork and not final. Especially since it includes a "Bonus 3D version!" Normally 3D Blu-Rays put the "3D Blu-Ray" notice in the blue bar along the top, so unless there's a separate 3D feature that can be displayed on normal television screens (like the old red/blue images) I'm not really sure what that's doing there. And if it is preliminary then the minifigure might be as well.

But we'll see.

From a designers point of a view, I think "The LEGO Movie" Logo, which is Red, would NOT be put against Emmets Hard Hat which is also Red.... That's a shocker and total schoolboy design error so I'm 99% sure this won't be the final deal...

Good. That gives me more time to get a 3D TV. Bummer Lucasfilm never finished giving the Star Wars movies the 3D treatment.

MUST HAVE!!!!!!! Lego movie

By in Australia,

Yeah, it would be nice to have the movie released in theaters here before I see the DVD cover art...

By in Hungary,

What is this ultra-violet thing? I've never heard anything like this. Is it a new digital format, or what?
I hope the DVD/Blu-Ray will be available here in Hungary, too. I guess a multi-language version will come out in Europe.

I hope the copyright will be paid only once regardless of the multiple format

and The Lego movie STILL hasnt been released in Australia!

By in Germany,

Ah, you're not alone in that…

In fact, it seems to be already out in the French speaking part of Switzerland, but only comes to the German speaking part on April 10th. I guess they're not done dubbing it into German yet.

@ Yellow

Ultraviolet is a cloud-based library where you can retrieve digital copies of movies from. Most Blu-Ray discs (and many DVD's now) come with a code where you can redeem a digital version of the movie through Ultraviolet, which then allows you stream the movie on UV supported sites like Vudu and Flixster, and on pretty much any device that can connect to the internet (computer, tablet, smartphone, smartTV, etc.). So, yeah, it's basically a new(ish) digital copy service.

I guess this is a pretty decent way to make up for using the "always kill the black guy" trope in this movie.

By in Italy,

Here in Italy, TLM is still in cinemas...

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's a definite buy for me since I'd buy the movie anyway.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The price of DVDs are $30-$35 and Blu-Rays are $45-$50, but you can get it from $15-$25.

The reason for the late release is probably to go with the release of the other sets, and to make sure LEGO has enough time to make more of the earlier sets that haven't been in stock since it's release.

By in United States,

^Of course, don't be surprised if this was $10 for Black Friday sales this year at Walmart.....

On that note, stores have DVDs at a lower price for the first week anyway. Frozen was $14.96 at said Walmart.

By in United States,

Also if waiting for the movie to be discounted you are assuming the minifig for the movie will still be available (That is of course if you want the figure).
My question is that currently on walmart.com I see nothing about it having a figure with just the blu ray+DVD version. I see it for the 3d blue ray DVD version, for $41.38 but that will be a bit annoying if I have to buy a version where I will never use the 3D

By in United Kingdom,

Pre-orders from Amazon are usually very cheap, games and movies, US and UK. I often buy the Nintendo DS games that come with minifigs and make more selling the game on e-bay after release than I pay for the limited edition as a pre-order

And don't forget, if you pre-order with Amazon you get the lowest price between your order and the release date. If you change your mind, just cancel a week or so before release.

By in United States,

@ madforLEGO, yes, that was the news a while back. It will come only with the Blu-Ray/DVD/3D/Digital combo version. It is very sad for me, since I don't want DVD, 3D, or Digital versions of this movie. But I will buy it to get that dang, screen-inaccurate fig, and then spend more money on Bricklink to make it screen-accurate.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ok in the US apparently, Walmart.com is lowering their preorder price as they are now doing pre-orders for 3D, Blu Ray and DVD one (with figure) for 29.96 still pricey not not as bad as 42 dollars

Ironically, if you wanted to make young Vitruvius's staff movie-accurate, it would be impossible without the use of some "Kragle". His LEGO staff in the movie is a trans-light blue crystal on a 1x1 brown stud on the "Gandalf staff", which is impossible to do naturally. You'd have to stick the crystal directly on the pole for a purist staff, since studs do not connect to LEGO bars. I do hope his cape is preliminary and uses the Graduate robe with the same sparkly pattern.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh, I just noticed by looking at the instructions for the Evil Lair, that they did use an open-stud stud to put it on the staff. So you'd need the piece in brown for Vitruvius's staff from the prologue.
