Neo-Classic Space MOC Contest
Posted by Huw,
There's a building competition being organised in the forum that has just over a week to run, so I must apologise for not mentioning it here until now.
Organiser TheOneVeyronian writes: "all you have to do is build a model of 338 pieces or less that will fit within the general theme of Classic Space (or Neo-Classic Space). You can do mechs, robots, spaceships, space bases, microscale, anything you can think of as long as it's to do with Classic Space.
"Judging the entries will be the master of Neo-Classic Space himself, Peter Reid. Entries will be judged on the aesthetics (i.e. how faithful is the design to Classic Space?) and use of clever building techniques."
The prizes will be as follows:
1st prize: 21109 Exo-Suit, signed by its creator Peter Reid.
2 x 2nd prizes: 5002812 Classic Spaceman minifigure.
There are some great entries already as you can see in the forum but I'm sure you can do better, so get building!

Fun! I'll be joining!
Why can't we join if we are under 16? :( There are plenty of good under-16 builders.
^ Agreed. This is really irking: a chance to win the Exo Suit SIGNED advertised on a site I login to daily, and it's part of a sister site I'm 4.5 years too young to join. And I bet I could make a GREAT NCS creation.
I understand that those under 16 aren't allowed use of the forums for legal reasons, but is there not some way that those under 16 can email their entry to brickset, or something along those lines?
I understand your concerns guys, I will get in touch with some of the other people helping to run it (including Huw and the Capn') and see if there could be provisions made where I can post people's entries in the forum for them if they are under 16 (the way I'm doing it requires making a post in the forum with their entry). I'll post here again when a decision is made :-)
Might take a day or so though, so please bear with us! :-)
^^Thanks!
^^ I see no reason why you can't post entries on others' behalf if they are emailed to you or something.
Cool contest. Classic space was a bit before my time, so I wouldn't have enough pieces to even think about building. But if a blacktron II/m:tron/ice planet 2002 contest ever pops up, I may have enough nostalgic motivation to enter.
Who should I email too? Does it have to be made especially for the competition?
^^^ Well, I guess it's okay then.
^ Please contact me through my profile, then I will respond to the email it generates and then you can reply to that email with the necessary attachments (maximum of 4 images as per the rules) and I'll get them up on the forum within 24 hours. Do make sure they're your best builds! :-) I'm not sure if it's okay for me to post my email address directly onto this post, hence the rather awkward way I've described :-) Please no Flickr or Brickshelf links, actual image files would be much better for me :-)
Obviously making it especially for the competition is better, but if you have an existing build that meets all the requirements as detailed in the forum, and you either haven't posted it anywhere on the Internet or can prove it is your build, that is fine also :-)
It's a really great contest, and whether I win or not, I'm pretty psyched at how well my Neo-Classic T.A.R.D.I.S. turned out - I managed to hit all of the details I was going for, including an opening two-stud wide door and interior!
I'm confused... Classic Space and clever building techniques in the same sentence?! I don't recall any Classic Space having any clever building techniques, it was all stud on top, wings, pipes and rocket parts.
None of the entries so far look anything like classic Space...I guess if you prefix with 'neo' you can just enter any smooth studless MOC greebled up to the max.
Sweet competition! I'll have to check up on something I made in LDD, don't know if it will fit the color and piece regulations. Looks like Pete will have a hard time judging these entries! Good luck to everyone! :)
^ Don't worry too much, I will let a couple of slip-ups in LDD colouring on the main model slide (CM4S' entry is about the max I'll tolerate :-) ).
Awesome! I hope I'll have time to build something.
@mr_skinny I'd say the vast majority of entries are in the Neo-Classic Space vein... well, it is a NEO-classic space contest after all :-)
In fact, I've been quite surprised at the lack of mech entries. Plenty of spaceships, bases, microscale and even Neo-Classic Space styled mashups, and the only mech so far has been attached to a spaceship! :-)
^And one generic, completely inconspicuous, unassuming police* box, don't forget. :)
*Ooh...Imagine a T.A.R.D.I.S. in the original Space Police color scheme...I think I have some building to do! :)
@TheOneVeyronian, you might be overwhelmed with the LDD coloring on mine, so... please don't get angry. :)
The timing of the late announcement is terrible - I would have loved to participate had I known earlier, but I'm not going to rush an entry together during the last few days before BrickFair.
I know you apologized already for that Huw, I just wanted to officially register my complaint that you should have mentioned this earlier.
Darn, I'm not going to have time to build something. May I suggest a Blacktron contest next?
