Review: 77076 Durrr Burger Restaurant

Posted by ,

Continuing the playset wave after 77075 Peely & Sparkplug's Camp’s start, this is the first structure-focused set of the LEGO Fortnite theme.

In the LEGO Fortnite Odyssey game, the player can construct a myriad of building modules to populate their world, so I hope this is the first of many such physical building sets.

Summary

77076 Durrr Burger Restaurant, 546 pieces.
£54.99 / $64.99 / €59.99 | 10.1p/11.9c/11.0c per piece.
Buy at LEGO.com »

This reconfigurable set aims to satisfy an appetite for building

  • Different configurations possible
  • 3 new minifigures
  • Same skeleton as 77075
  • A large round sticker, among others

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

Box

The box art is vibrantly decorated and depicts the desert biome rather than a plain backdrop. This is one of the possible locations a player could build the Durrr Burger Restaurant in the game (if they own the paid DLC pack). The back of the box showcases the modular nature of the set.

Inside are five plastic bags and two loose 8x16 plates. These plates are the same height as road plates, so you can easily integrate this set into your LEGO City layout.

The Durrr Burger sign sticker was a right pain to apply due to its size. Round stickers are difficult, so you’ll want to use your best techniques for application. I like using the wedge-end of the brick separator to hold the sticker before placement, to help with precise alignment.

Game Content

As a reward for purchasing this set, players can unlock the Beef Boss character skin for free. If you’ve got your LEGO account linked with Epic Games, the process to get your in-game loot is easy. After scanning the barcode on the instructions, you can get the style code from the same screen as your extra 20 LEGO Insiders points. You do get both the LEGO Fortnite Odyssey and Battle Royale versions of the styles that can be used in many different game modes.

Minifigures

Since most LEGO Fortnite minifigures are already present in digital form in the game, it’s impossible to avoid comparing the plastic characters to their initial virtual selves.

Beach Bomber makes for a good start, with her main components being very similar to the in-game version. The missing arm printing, dual moulded legs, and leg side printing are not terribly noticeable, so I think LEGO gets away with this one. She holds one of three different swords in this set.

Beef Boss, similarly, is missing his dual moulded legs and arm/leg side printing, but the fantastic moulded head steals the show and draws attention away from the other slight inconsistencies. The burger and bun are moulded, with other features printed on. I genuinely couldn’t tell whether the tongue and eyes were moulded too, but I wasn’t willing to slice into them to find out! I’m sure young fans will be delighted with this minifigure of a popular character.

When wearing the Grimey skin in the Battle Royale mode of Fortnite, every elimination the player performs adds a ‘soul’ (represented as round faces with small eyes) to Grimey’s clothes. That would mean this minifigure has done away with at least six other characters! The souls LEGO-fied as minifig heads would have been a nice touch, and the missing leg printing (while not extensive) is more noticeable on this more minimally decorated figure.

Skeletons are the Battle Droids of LEGO Fortnite: the expendable enemies encountered frequently. Unfortunately, this is just another Skeleton Striker—there are many types of skeletons in the game, so a simple change of accessory or weapon would have made it a different version. A Skeleton Archer or Skeleton Knight Sentinel would have been welcome variants.

Completed Model

Built on an 8x16 base with small additions, this play set has a form factor familiar to many LEGO playsets across countless themes, and is a decent size to play in. It has lots of eye-catching Burger-branded embellishments, but on the front window, eagle-eyed fans might notice solid-colour window panes are available in blue for the first time.

The elements and decor recreated in the set come from the Takeout Counter available in the paid Durrr Burger Bundle in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey. When it appears in the daily rotating item shop, the kit goes for 1,600 V-Bucks (which costs about £11). The Bundle was last live on the item store from 1-5 June to coincide with the set’s release.

Atop the restaurant’s roof, you can’t miss the eye-catching Durrr Burger mascot. Smaller than the 77070 Durrr Burger version, its hinged mouth stays open in different positions, unlike the bigger model. It’s nice to see this sharing some fun techniques that are scaled down and similar to that set, but also having its own new ideas too. Blue axle pins are provided on both sides of the sign, so you can easily rearrange or reorient the mascot on its supports.

This is only the second time the 6x8 rounded tile element has appeared unprinted, and the first in black; usually this piece has ornate decoration. Given how annoying this large sticker was to apply, it’s a shame this wasn’t continued!

The mansard-like roof and colour scheme are reminiscent of the American roadside restaurant icon, McDonald's. Those 1960s and 1970s roofs were instantly recognisable, just like this is. The roof assembly comes away as a single piece so is easy to put back on after reconfiguration.

There is space in the attic for a minifigure to sit, or you can keep your handy box of explosives guarded by a trusty spider. Regardless of the configuration you choose for the walls and windows, the roof can easily be reattached with most designs.

The furniture pieces can be effortlessly removed or moved around the space for play. The brightly coloured furniture matches the bright aesthetic of the restaurant. I don’t remember the green beverage from the game, but it uses a Unikitty horn inside of the 1x1 round to be either a straw or a whipped top. The menu sticker shows a little leaf icon, so it must be plant-based, whatever it is. Comment below if you know!

The table is another example of the set emulating retro McDonald’s restaurant furniture, where every object featured an anthropomorphic face. The menu on the side of the building is dominated by bold stickers depicting food items. I can hear the tiny speaker saying something like, “Welcome to Durrr Burger, home of the Durrr Burger. May I take your order?”

One of the side builds features a Spicy Pepper Plant, an in-game resource that is used to eat, cook with and warm your character. This little bush has the same design as in 77077 Klombo, introducing green droid hands, new for 2025 in these two sets. This will surely be an essential tool for the Botanicals theme!

In LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, you build with prefab pieces (walls, doors, windows, and deployables like furniture and decorations) rather than brick-by-brick. This set simulates that experience by giving you a floor to build on and prefabs to rearrange, just with the added step of building each segment beforehand. This reminds me of the 2017-18 era of Creator 3-in-1 Modular sets and also of Animal Crossing sets, which encourage builders to reconfigure these built-up modules.

Here are the two configurations that are illustrated in the instructions. In both, the back is unadorned, so the clean slice allows easy back-to-back expansion to form a closed 16x16 restaurant if two copies of the set were purchased.

The biggest drawback to this set is the lack of a plate/saucer for the egg—step 101 instructs the builder to just place it directly on the outdoor table. Gross.

Fortunately, there is an extra one to remedy this error. The other extra pieces are quite useful this time around too. One extra sword could be given to the skeleton to make it a ‘Slicer’ instead of a ‘Striker’. We can also make another pepper with the extra pieces, and grow it with the extra Manure for the garden! Tan bars are also useful extras.

Conclusion

This was a fun set to play in with lots of configurations, and is easily accessible for less experienced builders to get a taste for creative play without the intimidation of completely rebuilding the model. Great figures are included (save for the Skeleton, who could be different!), which perhaps pushes the price up a bit, but overall it still felt worthwhile to me, especially considering the prices of other Fortnite merchandise and virtual purchases nowadays.

Initially, I thought £55 seemed like quite a bit, but let’s go back to the Creator 3-in-1 sets I mentioned earlier: adjusting for inflation, the £45 price tag for 31065 Park Street Townhouse would be £59 now, for a similar number of parts. While that 2017 set suited my personal taste with its location-based play opportunities in a number of small rooms, it was less eye-catching, had fewer figures and no IP connection. Perhaps we need to get used to 10p/piece being the norm even for themes perceived to be ‘cheaper’, as LEGO Fortnite has become known.

I like most of the build, but the mascot and name just annoy me. I think it's mostly just the idea of having to eat the bulging eyes and lolling tongue, which are usually just ground up into the beef, and not so much added as garnishing.

It seems easy enough to make the necessary changes though, making it into a slightly more believable addition to most cities and/or roadsides. There's still the colour-scheme, but - I dunno, it kind of works for me, given the context of a fast food joint. I don't mind it.

I haven't played the game, nor will I purchase any of the sets. But I am intrigued by the in-game LEGO version and I may have to try to Modularize a version for the city at our LUG shows.

I could have it across the street from my Bob's Burgers and they could be competitors.

I wish the LEGO set came with a digital copy of the build to use in Fortnite rather than just a skin. I think that would be a great value.

Nope, this mansard-style roof has four steep sides. Have a look at the hyperlink I provided in that part of the article for more info on this type of roof.

The color scheme reminds of a fast food chain in the US called Hardees (no longer in existence). Anyhow, I like the color scheme for the nostalgia of that restaurant chain.

It isn't exactly a mansard either, because the pitches are reversed. A mansard has the upper portion shallower sloped and the lower portion steeper sloped, while this roof has the upper portion steeper sloped and the lower portion shallower sloped.

Surprisingly, this roof form doesn't really have a name. If forced, I'd call it a hipped roof with kickers.

Gablet is definitely wrong, as that's just another term for dutch gable. Gambrel is probably what @AndyB1 meant, but gambrel still isn't right, as it's to a gable roof as a mansard is to a hipped roof. Gambrels are the classic barn shape for those in the US.

Exactly! This is precisely why I said mansard-like with a hyperlink initially. I didn't want to delve too deeply into it at the time. McDonald's itself refers to this as a Mansard roof, even when their version doesn't exactly match up with the proper definition.

Different architects have had different interpretations of how they've expressed the Mansard style.

All the poop on the ground in the game comes from chickens/cows/pigs and sheep putting it there (and indirectly from other sources like composting bones)

That said, some of the in-game build kits, including the recent superhero one includes toilet builds.

So would you suggest cutting into the eyes, spreading the vitreous gel all over the bun? Or maybe just biting into them, like grapes? And what's the verdict on the tongue? I know it's a delicacy in some regions, but I do think the literal and figurative mouthfeel might interfere with that of the actual burger.

This head seems like a sometimes-food, at best.

Very familiar with CJ- which has far better burgers than Hardees did when I visited Hardees every 3 days in high school (our cafeteria was way too small to accommodate our school so they let us off campus to hit the nearby mall or strip of a dozen fast food stands). Hardee's had the most affordable combo deal for volume/quality of food.

Yet, I'm pretty sure there's no curly fries at CJ. :(

You can wait a few more years., lol. Hardee’s / Carls Jr is just such a blah choice if you want Fast Food. It’s not terrible but neither is it good.

Back when I got to enjoy the food of fastness, I’d much prefer Jack in the Box (for those of you on the left coast). Arby’s has some pretty good curly fries too. Back in the fundays, I’d bring the Mrs then gf back a little from everywhere…burgers from Wendy’s, poppers and curly fries from Arby’s, Apple pies from McDonald’s, etc. Best was when I could work in a Del Taco or any one of the amazing hole in the wall Mexican pop ups in California (all called something like Aliberto’s) for fresh taquitos.

Oh, I miss the West.

And Souplantation (RIP) and Filippi’s and Claim Jumper and Casa de Bandini (RIP) and Taco Time and In and Out and The Beer Hunter and…. :o)

I meant it in context of the LEGO piece (and even in this set they eat a giant 2x2 round burgers) but still, it would suggest some bad things probably.

I tried it in my thirties on my Switch, but quickly remembered that I suck at controlling shooters with twin joystick setups, and gave up. Give me a mouse-and-keyboard layout any day. I'd give it another try on PC, but after my stroke, I don't have enough control over my left hand.
