Mixels series 3 building competition
Posted by Huw,
Mixels series 3 have been out for a couple of weeks now so it's time to launch our third Mixels building competition!
Once again, we have some fantastic prizes lined up:
- First prize: 4000010 LEGO House, 5002144 Dareth vs. Nindroid and 5001121 BR minifigure
- Second prize: 4000010 LEGO House
- Third prize: 5002144 Dareth vs. Nindroid, 5001121 BR minifigure plus a handful of other polybags.
In addition, the top three and runners up in fourth and fifth place will each receive a Brickset minifigure.
To enter, simply build a Mixels 'Max' monster, from two or three (different) purple, tan or green Mixels from series three and post your entry to the Brickset competition pool on Flickr.
Entries will be judged primarily on the appearance of the monster -- how cool, scary, weird, whacky, inventive, imaginative it is -- but we will also be on the look-out for interesting building techniques and use of parts.
Entries made from sets from different tribes won't be accepted this time because, from an aesthetic point of view, they are at a disadvantage.
Post your entries, a maximum of two images per model, to the Flickr pool by Sunday 19 October 2014. Please make sure that the images are public and that sharing has been enabled so they can be used to illustrate future news articles without the need to for me to faff about.
If you're a new flickr user you may have trouble adding pictures to the pool: I think you need to have a certain number of images in your pool before you can do so.
Given that aesthetics is the main criteria, the quality of your photographs will have a part to play. We don't expect everyone to have expensive cameras and fancy lighting setups but bear in mind that models that are well lit and photographed on a clean uncluttered background are more likely to catch the judges' eyes.
So, good luck, I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Terms and conditions
- Prizes are as noted above.
- To be considered, entries must be photographed and uploaded to the Flickr Group set up for this competition, be set to public, and have sharing enabled. Therefore entrants will need a Flickr (Yahoo) account to enter.
- Entrants may enter as many times as they like, but only two uploads per entry are permitted.
- Entries must state which sets have been used and the model must use only the parts in the sets chosen.
- The competition begins on Wednesday 17 September and will close at the end of Sunday 19 October 2014. Entries received after this date will not be considered.
- Winners will be announced the week after the competition ends.
- The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Thanks to GoldJono for acquiring the LEGO Houses for us.

Woohoo, been waiting for this. Judging by the quality of entries on the last two contests I have no chance of winning, but it's still great fun taking part!
Just to clarify. Can we use the Nixel parts in certain sets?
Huw, Can we please use LEGO Digital Designer; I will use the LDD to POV-Ray Converter for a clearer and realistic image. I don't own the Mixels sets as I have plans for other LEGO purchases.
^^ Yes
^ No, real builds only please.
Good luck, everyone! I cannot wait to see what you all come up with...
I was just wondering when this competition would come around again! I've already uploaded my first entry: Dynamo: Mixel Impossible! (doesn't take a genius to guess what tribe I used there ;-) ) And it appears I am also the first in :-)
Not sure if I am going to do any others this time though.
you said that we have to enter max model, is this means that mix and murp between same tribe isn't allowed?
^^ By 'Max' I mean you can pool all the pieces from two or more different sets from the same tribe and build something from them.
We can mix tribes yes?
^ No, for the reasons stated in the article.
Oh, by the way, I forgot to ask, even if it might sound silly: My entry was uploaded to Flickr today (after this article was posted) but the actual photos were taken on the 2nd September (and Flickr shows this stat). Is that okay or will I need to adjust that timestamp to reflect today's date?
(probably just overthinking things as I usually do though...)
^ No problem at all, yours are the first entries and I can see there has been a lot of others submitted already. If I had to guess, I'd say you were not the only one to pre-empt the start :-)
As much as I want to participate again, I'm afraid I won't be able to do so because school is just taking too much of my time.
Anyway, good luck to all of those participating!!
Yay!!! Let the mixing begin!
Surprisingly i want to win 3rd place. Time to go buy some mixels.
Is it fine to use the extra parts?
^ Yes, as long as they came in the bag.
Thanks :-)
Love this competition. I know my building skills are poor compared to some of the quality entries there have been in the past but I still enter. The Mixels range is fantastic for quick builds and playing around and is one of my "must buys" for Lego. This competition also makes if a definite purchase too
