This is actually one of my favorite early year Ninjago sets. I liked the basic rocky design and the function, seemed to fit right in with Cole. It's not quite as detailed as the later 70669 but it was still a fun and affordable set.

The main reason this is on my wanted list is because of that drill. I've loved that planetary gear drill setup ever since encountering it in 8960.

Hmm... That driller is going to run into problems if it tries to dig further than the drill. It might work if the front wheels had were the big drill wheels. As it is you would be making a hole and then getting stuck on your wheels.

Blown out of the water by the Legacy version.

Always loved this color scheme. I curse Lego for not putting more sand green in Cole sets.

The Uruk-hai - Berserker would drive this.

Jump up, kick back, whip around, and spin! Ninja jump and do it again!

Man, I had a lot of fun with this set back in the day!

I never liked how this set deviated so much from the source material, and looking at it again - it really is quite barebones, isn't it? I tried to make a more accurate one using LDD years ago.... Never finished it, and 70669 did the job anyways (more or less). Still, even if the sets weren't as faithful to the show back then, at least they were fun, creative, and distinctive; and $20 and 171 pieces got you a pretty substantial vehicle. Modern Ninjago feels so same-y in comparison.

Also, why did they feel the need to put "Cole Included" on the box? Like, yeah, duh? He's in the picture.

I don't specifically collect Ninjago but after 3rd Lloyd, and 5th Kai, bad guy minigifigures look more interesting to me.

It’s called “cartoon physics”. It will not be naysayed.

Where else would they put it?

By in United Kingdom,

Look at all that gold trim, who designed this vehicle, Cole or Xzibit?

…that’s a pretty dated reference at this point isn’t it…

The box says, "COLE INCLUDED." In Cole's Earth Driller? I would sure hope so!

I remember mining with this thing in Lego Worlds.

One of the best Ninjago sets ever and the Legacy version was even better. Cole’s Earth Driller you will always be famous in my household <3

I lament that there was no Garmadon’s four-armed mech set to go along with this.

"We don't need that bomb. Check out what I've got!"

Where would we be without things like gravity that doesn't work until you notice it? Road Runner cartoons, would be boring, for one thing.

The Legacy version (70669) had it. At least I assume that's what that is; I've never watched the show.

Technically it was a giant Stone Warrior. If I recall correctly, in the show it wasn't even part of Garmadon's army but rather an artifact that got Night-at-the-Museum-ed in a filler episode. :D

By in Netherlands,

Most of this wave left me wanting because it was so vehicle focussed. I ended up with Kai's Fire Mech because it's cute, but sets like this and the samurai stone chopper are my least favourite type of ninjago set.
At least by this point vehicles like the earth driller were nog very common and it was kind of unique for what it did.
