By in United States,

These criminals are hardcore. They even took the kitchen sink!

Feels like there should be at least one more officer present.

My favorite dog piece.

I remember this set well. I always wanted it as a kid, but never did get it. Nice set, and brings back good memories!

They've got a rat on the inside (or rather, the outside).

Walking around with a black (Zorro) mask in your face is not suspicious at all...

So Lego Police can't have guns, but fur-missiles are OK.

@RogueWhistler unless that’s Master Splinter, I doubt it’ll help much.

Well you’ve got to have a proper crooks’ outfit, as Terry Pratchett called it, or people will get confused.

By in Australia,

I love how there's a periscope attached to this otherwise rundown/abandoned shack.

You know, to avoid looking suspicious.

By in Turkey,

Hot Rod here is beautiful. I cloned it the minute I saw it.

By in Canada,

While the Police...Van(???) looks nice, that 'rat-rod-truck' is 'chef's kiss'...although I still wonder: why all most of the crooks' vehicles RED...seriously, the only time I ever saw criminals 'get away' in a red car, was in the movie "Baby Diver"; and even there (a) He 'fluked' into finding two more red cars of similar build, and (b) He and the team ditched the car in a parkade, switching vehicles...so:)

What, Officer Rex and Officer Rover not good enough for you?

Finally a compact Lego car with 4 seats!

By in Netherlands,

I had this one on sale for a while and I had considered just keeping it. I found the concept cool but the execution was just... meh.

The concept of a shabby crook hideout? Cool! A getaway vehicle? Cool. A police dog car? Sure.

But combined, the police car is bigger than the entire hideout (it uses the most parts). Said building is empty and outside of the periscope and hatch doors has nothing to it. A basic chair and table or something would be the minimum. But no, there's no room because kids care more about the police apparently. The oversized vehicle also has surprisingly little room on the inside. The dogs fit in side to side but nothing else or nobody else really does. And while the getaway car is nice, it only fits one criminal and the crate of loot.

Idk, I think the police dog van should not have been so oversized if it only holds two dogs and a driver. Especially if the budget could have gone to a more proper hideout, which was not a common thing back then.

@Zordby, @Binnekamp: So that's a periscope? I thought that was a spotlight. I*was* wondering why the crooks would have a spotlight on their hideout, and why it was mounted that way...

A pair of very good dogs! :D

Although I do have to wonder about animal size scale here. If you have a rat that's big enough to come up higher than the knees of a full-grown German Shepherd while still on all fours, I think something went a little bit wrong...!

Little did the criminals know, the gold they took was fake, because the real chrome gold is stashed deep in the vaults of Lego HQ.

While the officers do outnumber the criminals 3:2, it’s customary for K-9 units to consist of one human and one dog. Two dogs and you run the risk of having the dogs split up and the human having to pick which one to follow.

Doesn’t matter. For one thing, a K-9 dog is in every sense a Law Enforcement Officer, same as their human handler. Sometimes they have to do hard things in order to perform their duties. Same as ADA-defined service animals, it takes a special disposition to be able to handle the demands of the job, and being the sort of dog guy at makes a great pet is often what causes dogs to wash out of both programs.

The other issue is that the human officer isn’t just the dog’s handler. They are partners, same as two human cops who share a patrol vehicle. You don’t abandon your partner in the line of duty, and that is a rule that’s difficult to abide by when you have multiple partners. If you only have one, and they take off running, all you have to do is follow and keep up. If you have two, and they take off in opposite directions, you can’t follow both, and following one means you’re automatically abandoning the other. K-9 dogs in particular are in a vulnerable situation on their own. They don’t carry guns, so while they have a distinct advantage in a full contact fight with one human, they’re trained to force the suspect to the ground and wait for their handler to come collect them. If no handler is there, a dog that’s not on the move makes a very easy target. If the suspect has a partner in this situation, it’s not ending well for the dog. If the human handler is nearby, however, they are going to be armed and can defend their partner until the situation has deescalated enough that they can order the dog to step back and take the suspect into custody.

So, if you’re going to have two dogs in the van, you would absolutely need to human handlers seated up front. Each handler would need to be paired with a specific dog, so there’s never any question of which partner to follow. But then you’d not only need two human handlers who can work as partners in their own right, but you’d also need two dogs that also pair well. Far easier, I’d think, to just pair one handler with one dog.

Expecting Lego to be consistent with scale... Oh, you sweet summer child.
