By in United States,

Apparently 6 year olds were once considered old enough to handle things labeled, "advanced." Not in today's economy!

Make up your mind! Is it Advanced or is it Basic? Maybe they just didn't want to call it Mediocre?

Advanced basic. For when you’re not quite ready for basic advanced.

Advanced basic with Technic and Minifigures. This is something I can get behind!

10/10 set. This was in the box of Lego I inherited from my dad as a kid.

I had the US version of this (404) as a kid and it was a great set.

I hadn't noticed that it had minifigs until you said that. I also hadn't really noticed until now that VSotW set descriptions don't include the number of minifigs, unlike RSotD descriptions do.

I’ve honestly never realized that either. Huh, that’s interesting. I guess @Huw didn’t think it necessary to add such a thing because the whole idea was “pre-Minifigures”

Well, but those 6-year-olds are 55 now. Today's are only 6.

Ah, but can you find that set now?

Me too! Got it for Christmas 1977, also the last Lego set I got as a child.

By in Canada,

Miss those wheels the most, both the metal axel and the Technics cross-axel...and am I the only one that wishes TLG would make a new version of those 'studded' caterpillar/tank tracks? Just me?:)

By in Canada,

So wanted this when I was a kid. My parts selection back then was so limited that I could not even replicate anything - not even in multi-colour or near enough to look somewhat like it. This was/is tremendous value for 471 pieces!

By in Australia,

What a great set!
Lots of parts for cool builds, a motor and some basic pre-minifigs!
Would have loved this as a child, but I was only born in 1981

But are over the age of six. If you’ve advanced past Basic Basic at only five, tough luck!

Awesome set! I mean, look at that hovercraft! Most of the builds look pretty good actually, and the instructions contain a few more, like a wonderful steam tractor! Good luck finding a current 6+ set as versatile as this....

Those cars are pretty nice, too.

By in Ireland,

My Christmas present in '76 when I was 6. The anticipation of delivery of this set I think was greater than any other over the years. It was a really great set with so many possibilities, motorised too. Still remember the excitement nearly 50 years later.

Yeah, particularly that sports car has some nice shaping, considering the size and the pieces available at the time.

This is a wonderful insult. "You're not just basic, you're ADVANCED basic."

By in United States,

This was one of my greatest Christmas presents ever.

It was set 404 for me.

Really nice before my time set. I am sure I would have loved it.
It reminds me of 226 Building Ideas Book.
