Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 2

Posted by ,

Day one brought us a delightful Babu Frik figure, so I am expecting some sort of accessory for the Anzellan droidsmith to arrive on day two.

Find out what it is after the break...

This workbench is pretty underwhelming. I like the printed console attached at one end and the mug is fun purely because of its size beside Babu Frik, but everything else is bland. The muted dark brown, dark tan and light bluish grey colours are appropriate for a droid workshop, but this combination is decidedly drab and the click hinge is worrying, clearly pointing to more items like this to come.

I assume the trans-clear accessory holder is included for Babu Frik to stand on. I am not sure why this was considered essential, but it gives some different options for displaying our sweet Babu!

Overall - This is about as boring as an Advent Calendar gift can get, rivalling the old weapons racks.

Awww, Sweet Babu.

Today is not great, predictably. Yet, it's better than a square brick tower tree.

It may be boring, but the weapons racks are great!

A frik rack if you will.
Sounds like a swearword or something from the Urban Dictionary.

I like the look of this from the front as a store counter. A really, really bland one.

Btw, that last picture reminds me of the screenshot of yoda falling that looks like he's about to kill someone to fuel his ketamine addiction

By in United States,

If I'm not crazy, this is the first time Star Wars has had a multi-day Advent build. I could be wrong, but I can't think of one right now. City's done several of them, but this seems to be a first.

(When I say "Multi-day build," I'm not counting two or more complementary items, like Palpatine and his chair. I mean a build that's specifically intended to connect to other builds to build one larger item. 7553 had a building that took four days to finish and a car that took two.)

Well, definitely not as good as yesterday's. Nevertheless, I do kinda like that Star Wars is doing the connectable builds finally, as @ResIpsaLoquitur already pointed out.

SW AC Day 1: 1 (tiny!) printed piece
CapnRex101: :: raves ::

SW AC Day 2: 13 pieces, inc. two 6-long, plus 1 print
CapnRex101: meh

I kid, I kid. Yes, I know Frik is a special case, being not only a rare character but an entirely new mold. Still, it struck me as funny, and I actually do like this little workbench build. I think I personally got more personal enjoyment out of it than from Babu Frik the day before (granted that Frik is an admittedly entertaining character from what is for me a lesser entry in the franchise canon, which affects my enjoyment).

By in United Kingdom,

I like builds like this, on the basis there’s a clear utility for them beyond the Christmas scene they star in.

Including extras, that is 16x as many parts as yesterday. That must be a record.

He really shouldn't have tried to drain a mug that size...

0 points (+ 1 from yesterday = 1): MC - At first, I thought it is supposed to be a sewing machine. Stupid me. It is a coffee maker.
1 point (+5=61): SW - It had to be something to interact with a tiny robot tinker. The workbench is a bit boring, but absoultely fitting. I expect it to make a different impression with the other modules attached.
2 (+ 4 = 6): Fr - Not actually a bad gift, but... the others were just more interesting.
3 (+ 2 = 5): Ct - Admit it, you made the noise when you remembered when you were playing with toy bulldozers!
4 (+ 3 = 7): HP - They could have easily added an owl piece and some more for a stand and call it a day. This entry was won by the creativity put into the build.
5 (+0 = 5): Dy - Wha....??? They won? Put that gingerbread house into your vinter village mod or modular house café/bakery and you will know, why...

Those certainly are different options for displaying Babu.
Not sure they’re -good- options but definitely different

Huh. I just realized Punt-Muppet can't even hold hat-pin accessories because his hands are molded solid.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm really hoping this one adds up to one of those "whole greater than sum of parts" efforts. Otherwise, this calendar could be quite underwhelming.

I bought 5 of the 2025 City Advent because they kept dipping below $20 and had so many great mini sets and minifigs.

For like the last decade plus, I've bought the SW set for myself every year. This year, I saw the "weapon rackery" and noped-out hard. Complete skip. Maybe if it gets down to $15 after xmas.

Something just occurred to me. Haven't previous calendars that did the small-modules-that-connected-to-other-days'-modules thing always connected them with clips? If that's what that click hinge is for, wonder why it was changed? Just designer preference, or something else?

By in Ireland,

I only opened Day 1 today. Initially I thought the bag was empty. Today's effort had me baffled as to what it was so my thanks to CapnRex for enlightening me! I must brush up on my Star Wars lore (sigh).

The only HPAC to feature a triptych build did use clips and bars, yes, but it also had two halves of a table that connected with Technic pins. Last year's Disney AC also used bars and clips to attach two of the four sections of the large castle, but then stacked the final piece on top of the center. 7553 mentioned above has you spend four days building up one solid building, and two more days building a solid vehicle. Several HPACs had multi-day builds that were more like that one, including last year which had pedestals included with four of the minifigs, and House mascots that you'd build on separate days to mount on the pedestals. The first HPAC did something similar with the pedestal and Architect spread over two days, and again with two dining tables that got food added to them on subsequent days.

Looking forward, this year's SWAC may indeed have a valid reason for switching to click hinges, as it will be doing something I don't think any AC has done before, but it won't be obvious until pretty late in the season, for those who wish to remain spoiler-free.

By in United States,

Day 2 is typically a day where expectations are not high, but considering that yesterday's "build" would be lost forever if I dropped it in the carpet, I find the number and size of the parts used to build this section of the workshop to be quite reasonable.

By in United States,

As desirable as the Babu Frik fig is, Day 2 was immensely more fun assembling than simply dropping the contents of Day 1 out of the bag…
I’m looking forward to see what this connects with - I enjoy building up the connected scenes in these calendars.
