BBC Collectaholics looking for LEGO collector

Posted by ,

I received this from Georgia Smith who works for the producers of the BBC TV Collectaholics programme:

"We are currently producing the second series of Collectaholics for BBC2, a primetime show presented by antiques expert Mark Hill which explores people’s passion for collecting. We are looking for enthusiastic collectors of Lego to feature on the programme. The programme explores why people collect, talks to collectors about their favourite pieces and also looks into the social history of Lego.

"Do you have a house full of Lego models, or thousands of pieces of Lego waiting to be constructed into something amazing? We would love to hear from you!"

Rather than post Georgia's details here, let me know if you're interested and I'll pass them on.

You will recall from the first series that it could be a great opportunity to get your LEGO room sorted out, fixed up and your collection valued, as well of course of getting you, and our favourite collectable, onto TV.

Me? My collection's tidy already :-)

Update: several people have been in contact, I think Georgia has enough to choose from now.

Can I, In the Netherlands participate as well?

While it should be lovely to show off a valuable collection on the tele. I always worry about the fact that you are advertising a valuable collection to the less than honourable and therefore end up making yourself a target to thieves.

I would love to as I could add in another side of it as I have asbergers syndrome and have a real issue as the main city is right accross my bedroom floor plus as a 24 year old I am in a gap where most people would be out clubbing while I sit in my room building lego

By in United Kingdom,

I was once featured on Channel 4's Collectors Lot for my Lego collection. That was a good 12 years ago now though. I live in Edinburgh, have a dedicated 'Legoroom' which, of course is too small. My car reg is L1 EGO. I spend an embarrassing amount on my ever growing collection which has been insured separately. I reckon it must be one the largest collections in the UK. I never have enough time to build, catalogue and file like I'd want to but they are more than welcome to visit!!

By in United Kingdom,

Id be interested :) im over the 600 sets now and 2000 figs also have the largest bedroom in the house dedicated to it (as well as considering my double garage sized shed to start on next). Even my wedding was Lego themed, currently my stuff is everywhere due to moving house (one of reasons we wanted a bigger house was the Lego room i had was just far to small

By in United States,

Are those in the US also eligible? :P

By in United Kingdom,

I'd apply, but my Billy-and-three-quarters-plus-a-bit of Star Wars Lego plus 5 modulars and a few other bits might end up looking quite small in the scheme of things! It does well at wowing friends, but I'm well aware I'm a minnow paddling in a veeeeery large pool here. :P

By in United Kingdom,

Its an interesting conundrum, on the one hand it would be nice to share your views, sets and hobby with other like minded people, but then maybe not all of your neighbours, work colleagues etc that don't quite realise how much time and money goes into Lego.

Geez, my LEGO collection could use a serious tidying up...

But I'm, again, too young to appear on TV in such a way.

My collection's also too tidy for this programme! I'm even starting to put my SW minifigs into wall mounted display cabinets as a collection in their own right.

I remember seeing the owner in the first series that had one of the very few maxi figs of a clone trooper though and that was worth some serious money. I on the other hand have nothing particularly special that isn't publically available and I know exactly what my collection consists of.

If it is in the US I would also love to participate! Sounds awesome.

UK only, I'm afraid.

By in Canada,

I do just happen to have a house full of LEGO models and a few hundred thousand pieces kicking around. I would be thrilled to participate , and get some help sorting the collection to boot ;)

By in United States,

I'm painstakingly organizing 37 years of Technic by building each model, alternate models, and adding power packs then packing each set up to put in storage. I have found too many errors in parts lists online and feel the need to do it this way. It has been enjoyable, but is taking forever! I'm up to 1992 right now. Star Wars is next, followed by Harry Potter.

Sad that omit the Canary Islands.
I would love to participate

Has anyone applied yet Huw ? I am just thinking I don't want anyone to be sorting my Lego out......"its not a Toy" its a display piece. What would you say the ideal candidate would possess, 1000 sets, Rare items, Dedicated Room, some kind of display with motors or lights ?

^ If the last series is anything to go by, a garage full of vintage LEGO and a desire to get it properly on display

I'd be interested! I'm actually in the process of decorating a room ready to display my LEGO in a huge layout. =D

Put me down for a free extension...... and two weeks off work...... I even have the Billy Bookcases packed with the Lego in the loft, as I did have a Lego room but now have a child's bedroom. Interesting that Vintage was the word you used, I suppose he is an Antiques expert. I don't think 201x Star Wars Lego is quite Antique yet. 1979 Space Lego may be though. I think id need a whole 2 bed to display it all at once.

I was in the original series with Sue Cook, in the mid nineties. I had to transport my collection to somewhere in Wales, quite a feat, if I remember.
Mind you I didn't have a quarter of what I have now.
Should be good to watch, whoever gets chosen this time around.
