Year of the Horse

©2026 LEGO Group

The last in the series of Chinese Zodiac animals has been revealed. 40779 Year of the Horse completes the set of twelve which, other than the sheep which was the first one released in 2015, have all shared the same design language.

Like the others, it will probably be a gift with purchase at LEGO.com early in the new year.

Only one image is available at the moment: I think it looks a bit cartoonish...

well, that's certainly a horse...

By in United States,

It's the eye that makes it particularly cartoonish. Swap that out with one that doesn't have quite so many circles and it'll probably look better. Right now it puts me in mind of the sort of swirly-eyed thing cartoons use to show someone is dazed or hypnotized or otherwise unable to think independently.

Honse honse honse!!!! I will doorbust my local LEGO store for this one

By in United States,

I'd be surprised if it DIDN'T look cartoonish, seeing as oversized cartoon eyes and chibi-esque proportions have been the defining style of the series.

Majestic Horse!

Serious pony power vibes here.

About time, was getting worried when it wasn't announced with the other lunar festival sets. Really hoping they re-do Sheep, too, since it doesn't fit the others.

As the Constable would say in Henry 5th: "Indeed, my lord, it is a most absolute and excellent....... horse."

By in Czechia,

Stables for Chinese seasonal sets would be nice.

I know it’s a style choice, but the head being half the length of the body looks quite awkward to me.

Wonder if they’ll start a new series now that they’ve completed the 12, maybe something a bit more in the style of the lunar new year sets?

Does that mean that we won't have another Year of the Sheep set next year?

They’ve all looked cartoonish.

I don’t know.

That horse looks like it might be hiding some Greek soldiers inside it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope they keep going as we don’t have mining versions, and the trans red minifig lantern piece, for 5 of them. The pig one doesn’t count as that was the CMF & there no lantern.

Technically, we've already come full circle.
First one was released was 10250
Very different style, but still...

Yeah, if anyone Greek offers you this as a gift, politely turn it down.

Would love to see a side by side review with 010423 :-)

By in United Kingdom,

This is 31166 done on a budget. It also feels like the larger sets are ones you get, then you palm this one off on your child as a consolation prize.

"I got all of this."

"I didn't get anything."

"Here, have this."

"Aw, thanks so much."

In all seriousness, 40611 was the best out of the lot for me.

Not sure if I'll avoid getting the sets until the promotion runs out, or just sell it on eBay, as I usually do.

They let you do that?
I once got a job interview at a radio station because I agreed to vacuum their on-air studio.

They've all been cartoonish, haven't they? For example, 40186.
