Own a rare Hobbit acrylic brick

Posted by ,

Fairy Bricks is auctioning off a rare TT Games acrylic The Hobbit brick:

This is a perhaps once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase this item. These acrylic bricks are only given to employees of TT Games if they have made a significant contribution to the production of one of their published LEGO titles.

Luckily for us, Carl Greatrix is a Senior Model Designer at TT and a good friend of Fairy Bricks. With full management approval he has managed to secure us this brick complete with Bard The Bowman inside. These bricks are highly coveted by those they are given to and to the best of our knowledge one has never been sold before.

This auction is open to bidders worldwide and 100% of the proceeds will be used to buy LEGO sets for children in hospital.

It's currently at just under £300/$475 but I'm sure, with your help, it can go higher than that!

Here are links to the item on eBay: eBay.co.uk | eBay.com.

An excellent item for an excellent cause. If I could afford to bid I would. Wishing all the best for a good outcome.

Wow. Costs too much, that's the problem. Though for die-hard LEGO / LEGO Hobbit fans, this is a hit in the eye. Fans will love this and spend a lot of money, which might be better on actual sets to be given to Fairy Bricks. Well, LEGO fans will be LEGO fans of course. ;-)

Up to $800 now, with 3 days left.

Definitely a worthy cause, but I guess I don't see the purpose of this brick. It's of Bard (not that highly collectible) and you can't even play with him or put him into your own collection.

Cool that they are given to people at TT and cool that it will be auctioned off for a good cause (and it looks like a high price), but I don't see the appeal. I'd donate money outright before I'd receive something like this. Just my opinion.

Best of luck to the bidders!

yeah definitely a worthy cause, but already too rich for me, pity they have not gone down the raffle route I think this would probably have raised just as much cash if not more for what will be a rare item and have been more in the spirt of things rather than how deep your pocket is.

It wasn't an easy decision when it came to an auction/raffle situation. As is well known we did have some extremely high value prizes in the Big Raffle which was only a few months back.

I won't say we are surprised at the current bid because both ourselves and the team at TT had nothing to go on as a price comparison. We both agreed to let the market decide. It is an item that has broader appeal than the LEGO collector market so that may explain the high price.

If at the end of the auction it is deemed to be a success then perhaps we will be able to secure other bricks with different minifigs in the future and they could well find themselves in a raffle, not an auction.

I have some extra money and do need that figure... I wonder how hard it is to break open that acrylic brick to get at the minifig :-)
