Is the "-I" a typo or does it actually mean anything because when you search "Fire House" here on Brickset, you get the both versions of the Legoland Fire House from 1973, and then there's this. What's going on?

Classic fire house from the 1980s, with the much sought after rolling garage doors. Note the trans-light blue angled windows of the command center versus trans-clear glass everywhere else - this set occurred at the transition between eras, right as Town was adopting more trans-light blue glass for vehicles and buildings. I didn’t have this one; it was a little early for my time, but I later got its successor, 6389.

Insane resale value. It's not a Castle or Space set so it's weird that it's so high.

Gorgeous firehouse. One of the first and best.

But it IS Space. This set is so cool, it’s basically a retconned space base… on EARTH!

Love this. Never had it, but I did have a police station that came out about the same time.

Holy lore potential.

By in Turkey,

I feel so happy when I see a Classic set. Two in a row is extremely pleasing. The interior was sparse back then, but if you are not a hardcore purist, you can always add stuff. It's Lego afterall. I did modify some of my older sets, including a 928 (Sacrilegious, I know). I've to admit it was hard at first, but if done right, it fits.

It's certainly filled with a lot of space...

Two amazing sets in a row! Huwbots Christmas gift to us :D

By in United States,

I managed to purchase this set on Ebay several years ago. It was one of the last remaining Legoland Town System sets I did not have but coveted. I already had the first 590, Engine Co. No. 9 (1978) and 6382, Fire House (1981). 6382 also had the rolling doors along with 6383. The special roadplate that came with the set was also appealing, and it appeared in many sets afterwards with different markings depending upon the set. Legoland Town System is still my favorite collection.

This is a true classic. I remember catalogs showing this set.

Don’t ask what happened to firehouses A to H…

By in Poland,

On the second day of christmas, my true love gave to me:
two fire trucks and a station in a space sea

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Oh, how I wanted that set... Back then LEGO bricks were only available in Poland in special shops called Pewex for USD dollars, and extremely expensive. My parents were able to buy me small sets like 6612 or 6656.

By in New Zealand,

I would buy this today

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Scored my second copy of this in a Market Place purchase. 6382 is still my favourite but this is a close second. My LEGO town would pretty much have a station on every corner.

Me, too. All the play value without piles of unnecessary greebling bumping the price & piece count.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

A friend of mine had this while I, who was a little older, had the predecessor 6382.
A couple of months ago I bought a second copy of that set together with this one's successor 6389 on ebay, both in near mint condition, the latter even with its box.

Simple. Attractive. Clean. Uncomplicated. And everyone is smiling. 40 years ago they really knew how to design and present a model. My only criticism of the set at the time would be the price. Possibly this was in part due to the inclusion of the relatively expensive baseplate. Still looks cool, and with only 407 pieces and a tiny number of different colours. Today’s designers could perhaps learn much from this

By in Canada,

It's a nice run of classic and older sets over the past few days. Hoping that it continues for a few more days or a least until the new year!

By in Luxembourg,

One of my first ever sets. So much fun at the time...and still now. Rebuilt it a few years ago and it's still displayed. Those rolling doors were brilliant.
Only the stickers have suffered.

This is where Worf says "that was not my fault," right?

And in response to the classic space comments - taking fire stations and police stations from this era and rebuilding them in classic space colors would be a great starting point for a retro space display.

This was my 2nd best Lego Christmas as a kid. The best was 6890 Galaxy Commander and 6890 Cosmic Cruiser

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I got this for Xmas in 1985! Still have it, but bought a 2nd copy in mint condition earlier this year, 40 years after the 1st one. Good childhood memories.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Thats niw three days in a row of sets I gave aquired in loose lots over the years. This one and yesterday's were both in the last year. My first Fire Station, and its pretty cool. My 3 year ild likes it too, though I had to add some details inside it for him.

I muss roadplates like these.

You transposed a couple of digits in the set number for the Galaxy Commander (should have been 6980) and linked to the same set twice.

By in Netherlands,

Around 1985 lego town had finally figured out how to make minifig sized sets look less blocky and just plain charming. The right details and shaping made for such great little models. For example, the fences used on the side of the building as grates add such simple but effective texture. These were parts that had been around for a bit!

Too bad about the STAMP(s) though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

"Charming" is a perfect word for these, actually.

I shall make the 'I' stand for instructor as the tower thing looks like something to train firefighters.
