New site features

Posted by ,

Earlier this week you may have noticed the appearance of a new tab at the bottom of set detail pages: LDraw. Where it's present, you'll find links to LDraw .dat or .mpd files for the set. Here's a good example.

Legolijntje, who has been curating lists of LDraw versions of official models at Eurobricks, is populating the database and uploading the files to make them easier to find and more readily available. There's also an index of them all here.

The next stage is to use something like this to display the models in-browser, but I haven't figured out how to do so yet. If you know how, please get in touch.

I've also made some changes to the buying pages. For the US, Target listings have returned following a change to their affiliate programme which required new code to import the data. For the UK, I've removed Play.com and The Entertainer: the former because, well, there was never anything much available at a decent price and the latter because for some reason virtually all LEGO products disappeared from their feed a month or so ago.

By in Canada,

The in-browser 3D render of LDraw model is possible with this: https://bitbucket.org/msx80/brigl

That’s what this demo on "lugato.net" use and also what Rebrickable use.

Is you need any help implementing it, let me know I may be able to give you some help with that! =)

By in Italy,

Hello, I'm the author of Brigl, what a surprise to see it here :) Feel free to contact me for any help on how to integrate it, i'd love to see it deployed in here!
I haven't worked on it since a lot but should be pretty usable and stable as it is. Also, great to see LDraw models on brickset!

By in Ireland,

Is there going to be LDD files too? I know Eurobricks has far more of the official sets build using LDD than LDraw.

Now to have a decent LDraw viewer for tablets, that would be awesome.

I would also love to see LDD models too for those of us who don't have LDraw.

There's no reason why LDD files can't be stored as well. I'm not sure if @Legolijntje plans to add them but if anyone else wants to assist doing so I can grant them the appropriate permissions.

If there are problems with the model will we be able to submit corrections anywhere?

By in Serbia,

Glad to see Target deals back on here. Sadly the 48% off the TMNT Mutation chamber seems to be non-existent.

@Legolijntje
Interesting, I might have to take a look at making the LDraw files available through myBrickset :)

You'll be wanting an API, then :-)

By in New Zealand,

It would be great to also have access to the LDD files here in Brickset :-)
Will the 3D models coming from Mecabricks and the future Ldraw viewer cohabit on Brickset?

Brickset + BrickPad = Brilliant

Huw - I cannot thank you enough for this enhancement!
