United Bricks, a UK based custom minifigure producer that specialises in military minifigures, wants to buy a UV printer, and it wants you to help fund it via Kickstarter. In return for your pledge of £8 or more, you'll get a choice of WW2 soldiers.

If that sounds like something you'd like to help with, head on over to Kickstarter and pledge today!

These are the most random figures. You don't even think of these countries fighting in WWII. I would think more options for different countries would help this succeed.

The choice of countries is almost baffling to me (sorry if you're from any of the countries represented). Like lylesbk said, if they actually had countries represented that were front and center in the war (Germany, Italy, Japan for the Axis, UK, US, Russia for the allies) this might actually work. Also, it seems odd that there isn't something more distinguishable for the countries, like maybe a small national flag or something. A lot of the figures are very similar...

Hi everyone,
Firstly I would like to thank Huw for posting about our Kickstarter.
Secondly although I understand that these figures may seem unusual to some people the main reason we picked these is we have already made British, German, ect and many people have requested these figures to be made.
The main point is although the figures through Kickstarter may not appeal to you greatly, if we manage to get the Kickstarter funded we will be able to produce a huge variety of figures that I am sure their will be something that appeals to everyone.

@lylesbk @natro220 My fellow Americans, I have always been extremely proud of our nation's mighty efforts during WWII. I made a visit to Europe back in 1991 and made sure to visit Normandy and see the invasion site for D-Day, which was incredibly moving and awe-inspiring. But saying that you "don't even think of these countries fighting in WWII" or referring to them as not "front and center" isn't really fair - after all those countries are a lot of where the war was fought!
I've never joined a Kickstarter before but I'll give this a look.

I think the comment highlights what I perceive to be a general ignorance in the USA about who did what in the wars, and where, perhaps as a result of the education system and Hollywood over emphasising America's involvement to the detriment of other nations.

I admit, my comment could have used a bit more thought, and I admit to perhaps being a little ignorant on the subject, not living where the war took place. However, when taking on a project such as this, you're never going to please everyone as someone is going to be left out. Just my opinion...

Uh... Those countries were about as close to the fighting as physically possible, especially since WWII started in Poland. It was WORLD War II after all, it was not just the U.S., England and the U.S.S.R. vs. Germany, Italy and Japan. I think it is neat to see the soldiers of these nations made, since everyone has done the main allied and axis powers already.

Perhaps the reason that the soldiers look indistinct is that most of them are wearing the wrong helmet - only French, Dutch, Belgian and Polish troops serving under British command (as Free units in WW2) wore the Mk1 or Mk2 Brodie helmet as seen on the figs, and in any case they would have worn British uniforms but with flag and country-name flash insignia to distinguish. Belgium, Poland and France used the French M15 or M26 Adrian helmet. The Netherlands utilised the M15 Adrian early on, but designed their own M16, M27 and finally the Verblifa M34 which was used in WW2. Some Dutch units in the Pacific theatre re-equipped with US equipment, i.e. the M1 Helmet.

...and this, ladies and gents, is why LEGO doesn't make sets based off the wars.

To clarify my statement I wasn't saying that those countries had no part in the war or that they didn't provide troops. I was saying when I think of soldiers fighting in the war I do not think of those countries. I was hinting at the fact that if United Bricks wanted the project to succeed they might throw in some other countries that people are more familiar with. If I am wrong and everyone goes nuts for these than so be it. I would like to see more printed WWII stuff as I have bought a lot from Citizenbrick.

Wow. Team America - world police.

It's very insulting to think that you guys are the be all and end all of the wars considering the countries mentioned were there from the start.

They didn't sweep it at the last minute after years of fighting to defeat an enemy that was already wearing thin.

History matters, next time try not to think you won the war, you merely assisted at the end.

What's equally disgusting as lylesbk's ignorance is the knee-jerk generalization of Americans. Way to go everybody!
