For what, most stickers? I've seen Racers sets with less than half the piece count contain more stickers than you.

Technic set names always overhype the build.

In the summer of 2015, my university's engineering department set a land speed record for an electric streamliner out on the salt flats, so it was pretty nice to see a Lego "Record Breaker" streamliner in my university's colors on store shelves. This set doesn't look exactly the same as my university's car, but it's close enough for me.

I don't recall ever having seen this set before, which is surprising to me. Given that the greatest strength of Technic is demonstrated function (albeit often times internal and, admittedly, sometimes minimal) over appearance, it is curious to see a set with no such attribute, unless you consider the pullback aspect.

So does this break records? I wasn’t listening.

It was the first Technic set using dark blue parts after the exlusive 41999. I thought the exclusivity of dark blue Technic parts would last a bit longer... :D

The canopy may have originated with minifig-scale sets, but I have a feeling that this set is larger than minifig-scale, simply because if it were, that would be a very roomy cockpit, and that seems counterproductive for a vehicle like this.

Same here.
I was very into Technic at that time (I mean, I own 42039, 42040, 42042 and 42043 from that year alone, that's more than I own from the last five years of what now passes as "Technic" combined), but I can't recall having ever seen this set before, be it online or on shelves.
Maybe the record is for it being the most elusive Technic set supposedly available as a standard retail set.

Otherwise I thought the record might be the most extreme length-to-width ratio.

It looks nice, but has it any functions?

This brings back a rather unusual memory. I still dont know how it happened. I made this set in 2015, from a brand new box, and somehow when i came to complete it it was missing one of the large blue Technic pieces that form the sides. I have had a set with one very small part missing and one with the wrong small part but it was inconceivable that Lego would miss the largest part in the set. I made it as best I could and put it on display with the gapping hole facing the back. Months later I found the part and all was well. No idea how it was misplaced.

It breaks the record for the most boring and forgettable Technic set released in 2015, which is a tough feat considering that was during the modern Technic line's golden years (which I consider to be 2013-2016). 42034 is more visually interesting and 42041 is a rerelease so it doesn't count.

That said, it is at least distinct compared to recent years' mind-numbingly uniform lineup of sports cars, so its record has long since been broken....

It's not a Record Breaker without Roy Castle!

It has a pullback motor. This is probably one of my favorite Technic pullbacks, the design is super cool and unique!

For a pullback set they tried something unique, which I can appreciate.

Plo Koon's Jedi drag racer.

I remember finding this in my collection years back and noticing the pull back feature and thinking how cool that was and have been buying pull back vehicles ever since.

The critique of it having "only" a pullback motor is funny considering the dire straits Technic has been in for over a decade now. We long sacrificed function for form outside of the occasional breaths of fresh air.

This one's a funny little set. Very interesting choice, and rather ideal for a pullback motor. I don't recall if it's based on a specific vehicle, but it's evocative of many of the "cars" that have been used for the land speed record, iirc.

That’s surprisingly sleek and good looking for a technics set.
