Year of the Sheep
Posted by Huw,
The Chinese year of the Goat (Sheep) 2015 will start on February 19, 2015. To commemorate this, and to make further inroads into the Chinese market, LEGO has released a special set, 40148.
Like 2013's 10250 Year Of The Snake it's unlikely to be available outside of Asia.
Thanks to robuko, who bought one in Toys R Us in Japan, for sending us the image.
It seems that the packet that's mentioned on the box can be used to put money or something in the box before giving it as a present.

Might order the parts. I love CONSTRACTION sets. :-D
Very Chinese.
I hope this set will be available in Singapore.
The packet is traditional red and is meant for parents or married adults to put "longevity" money into it and given to children (and unmarried junior adults in some Chinese societies)
It's a traditional Chinese custom.
You can be sure those happiest during the lunar Chinese New Year are the children and those receiving these red packets of free cash. :D
Really, the frustrating thing about these two sets (the sheep and that beautiful year of the Snake set) is that they're *not* available outside of Asia, because they're gorgeous sets. Yeah, I know, the internet is a global marketplace and all, but still.
Thanks for the info Huw, will have to have a look tomorrow when I'm in Shanghai...
The problem with these sets in China, is that they are ridiculously priced (about 50% on UK prices for smaller sets, and 10-20 pounds (at least) on larger sets). The year of the snake had an extra-ordinary markup on the normal creator set it was based on (about extra 75% if I remember), and I only saw it in one place...
If anyone is able to ship one to me in the UK for a reasonable price please do get in touch.
Thank you @blacklotus for the information.
@Alijoezac: That is unlikely because of shipping costs. You could order the parts online for a decent price though. ;-)
WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!@!
Blacklotus, first time saw you posting here :)
This set looked much smaller than the Snake set and hopefully will be widely available here in SG.
One question, I see my account having the SG flag icon at top right corner, but why my posts show I'm from US?
This set might be cool for me to get, if I can, as my birth year was a year of the goat.
2800 Yen on Amazon.jp (Japan), about £15.
I can source these but will need to add postage costs back to the UK.
Price seems a little steep for a small polybag...
Went into Shanghai today, checked a couple of places that have LEGO, and nothing...
Mind you, there are no major places selling spring festival decorations either with it being middle of Feb, so they might come out later next month...
It is also the year of the sheep in Japan. Japan celebrates the new year on Jan. 1. This might be why the set was found in Japan. Money for kids on New Years is also a Japanese thing. Likely influenced by/borrowed from the Chinese tradition but it's not really exclusive to one culture. That said, I really want one of these, as it is my birth year as well.
I will be buying some from Amazon.jp as per my earlier post.
If anyone is genuinely interested in getting hold of one from me please let me know and I shall do a bulk order and split shipping costs accordingly, as long as shipping is not prohibitively expensive. Will need to add on postage within UK once they arrive here as well.
I'd like to order by end of the weekend (4th Jan) if possible.
Let me know of any genuine interest and I'll make further enquiries.
Thanks.
That looks great! Glad that TLG is commemorating Chinese New Year just like how they do with other festivals such as Christmas. I must admit though that I'm a bit underwhelmed due to the size of the sheep. After all, last/this year they did give us a snake that is comparable to the Great Devourer in terms of size =P The inclusion of the red packet really surprised me. Official Lego red packets?? =D
^^ You'll need to go to http://brickset.com/profile/edit and tick the 'allow others to contact me' box to have people contact you.
Thanks for the tip, Huw.
Amazon.jp only have 1 left in stock right now :(
