LEGO Birds signing event at Bluewater this Saturday
Posted by Huw,
Tom Poulsom will be at the store in the afternoon signing LEGO birds boxes. For some reason the event has not been well publicised but the stores.LEGO.com page provides this information:
"Come to the LEGO Store Bluewater next Saturday 24th January, 12-2pm, and meet the LEGO IDEAS designer Tom Poulsom. Get to know how Tom made his ideas a reality by developing the LEGO IDEAS Birds project."

Hey Huw, this is slightly off topic, but do you recall in your double-decker couch review the comments you made regarding the slight variation in the same shade of blue among different elements?
Well, I noticed the same with the light blue pieces on the bluejay that I built today, which is part of this birds set. Some exhibit a weaker shade of blue than others and the parts look cheap.
Is this something you think might be worth discussing in an article and putting forward to Lego for an explanation?
I don't want to be rude, but who wants an autograph of an Ideas designer? Personally I would rather see that Lego makes more of Nature sets like this one. Because I really think this is could be a very interesting and profitable series. So, I don't need an autopgraph, but I would say to Tom and the official Lego designers: Make more sets like these!!! Please!!!
Well you just have to look at the popularity of the Exo-Suit signing. The queue stretched on forever. Though it's fair to say that Peter Reed is well known within the community, whereas Tom doesn't have as huge a following (to my knowledge)
^^Nobody needs an autograph true. But those who value the collecting part of the hobby as much as the building part of the hobby it's a really nice thing to have. Plus some people might like to chat to the designer about the set itself or the Ideas process. Signings such as this serve as a nice community event for AFOLS to meet up. For many, Lego can be a solitary hobby, and therefore having a social few hours out at a Brand Store is never going to be a terrible thing ;-)
@iso3200: I agree to that. Staying in a Brand Store can never be a waste of time. :-)
But I guess I'm not AFOL enough when it comes to signings and that sort of stuff. I only collect a few series which I like and trade some other sets every once and a while to pay my hobby. Actually, I've never been to any Lego event ever. I think it would be fun to do though...
At first I thought the article headline was Birds "singing" and all manners of Mindstorms gear connections and sensors were popping into my head! ;-)
Have a wonderful time Tom!
@damien: I wish I had Eric Brok signature on my 10190 box. Hope the Dutchman is flying & resting in peace now...
You never know, he could become more well known in the future or maybe even become a real Lego employee, then you'll be wishing you got his autograph!
