BrickLists by LEGO designers
Posted by Huw,
BrickLists provide a means of creating lists of otherwise unconnected sets and are one of the most powerful aspects of Brickset. Anyone can create them then share them with others and as of today there are some 5000 in the system.
However, while it's true to say that 80% of them are of little interest to others, some that definitely are are those that have been created by LEGO designers listing the sets they've worked on. Mark Stafford was the first to do so, now Adam Grabowski, Pierre Normandin, Samuel Johnson, Michael Svane Knap and Mike Psiaki and others have followed suit which is great to see.
I'm hoping that this article encourages others to follow suit.

What a brilliant feature and a nice endorsement for the site.
PS MOAR TRAYNS please Pierre! Give us a new Emerald Night!
Nice! Designer Adrian Florea also has a bricklist, don't forget about him!

Jamie Berard's list

Finally somebody uses Bricklists correctly. I stopped using Bricklist after seeing "Random sets 6" or something like that.
How do I make a Bricklist? I've been wanting to for a while, but I don't know where to find it.
Thank you, Adrian Florea's list has now been added to the index.
The Jamie Berard list is not by the man himself, so unless he endorses it, or better still creates his own, I won't include it in the index.
^ There's a link in the article to create one.
Brilliant news, love being able to see who's been involved with what. I've always thought it'd be nice for LEGO to put some sort of credits in the set instructions.
That's great!
Just added my very short list. http://brickset.com/sets/list-14049
While sifting through the database to remove the chaff from BrickLists I noticed a fairly serious flaw in the code that records list ratings. It must have been present since the site was relaunched last year.
Consequently, ratings applied since then have not been recorded correctly. That will explain why many recent lists have a '0 out of 0 people found it helpful'.
While I'm at it I'll be removing many other subjective lists as well as those that appear to be related to the creator's collection or wanted list.
@westalbott, thank you! Nice sets! Please encourage your colleagues to do the same!
Ah, Mark Stafford... The man that killed Teal.
Still my favorite set designer of the last seven years. Samurai Mech was the best.
Any chance of Bricklists for older themes?
A wonderful part of the site to highlight. It's great seeing what designers designed what, and it makes for some very interesting reading.
I've been waiting for a feature like this for a while! I created one for Marcos Bessa a few months ago using his site:

I just had a look at the bricklists and these designers have the most interesting and creative selection of work in my opinion: Mark Stafford, Adam Grabowski, Mike Psiaki, Morten Rauff and Wes Talbott.
Thank you bad boy. Given the source appears definitive I've added that list to the list, but added [unofficial] to the title. I've contacted Marcos on Facebook to see if he's interested in maintaining his own list.
Until then, please keep it up to date -- there are set to be added to it already :)
Wow only 3 of Marcos's sets I don't own, yet.
Wow! Love it! Nice feature. Will they allow you to use an bio photo?
@Huw Done!
I just realised Marcos has one hell of an outstanding LEGO portfolio! He has worked on a ton of awesome and beloved themes as well as having five / six D2C sets in three years. I would like him to design the next modular :)
@Huw, Bricklists for LEGO designers is BRILLIANT! I had that very unique opportunity to see a designer presentation this summer. It was great to associate that designer with the sets he had been involved with by using the bricklist feature. I even went out and bought one of his sets after the presentation to see first hand what he had explained during the presentation. Thanks for putting it together and getting it cleaned up.
^ Indeed. I didn't even know Mike has made a list until he mentioned it on his presentation, hence seeking them out and surfacing them a bit better.
Nice! Here's one you seem to have missed: http://brickset.com/sets/list-13387
@Huw - I must admit, that this is exactly the feature I always wanted to see! But those list were all hidden and now, when Uve endorsed em, even new ones begin start spawning :) Really good job in endorsing, highlighting em and not to be forgotten doing some „cleanup“! Thnx!
Found the feature. Thanks, Huw. You're the best.
^^^ Thank you. I have no magic way of finding them all other than scanning the titles so it's possible I've missed others.
Hmm, John Ho has yet to design a Lego set.... ;)
This is great. I would love to be able to subscribe to lists and get a notification when they change.
I had previously found Mike Psiaki's list and had been actively seeking his sets out. I think it would be a good feature for the set listings themselves to have the designer listed, (if known).
This is really great! I like how a few of the artists took the extra step of describing their involvement with the notes field!
Apart from Jamie, any other fan created designer lists?
This is awesome, but what I really want to see is Designer Lists for LEGO Technic!
Great idea. I have gone through the Stafford list in the past just to see what other sets he did, and I found some favorites that I decided to purchase. It was a real help.
Thanks Huw, for cleaning up the Bricklists listings. There are so many "useless" lists that don't actually give us any unique or usable information, I stopped looking at them years ago.
One feature that would be nice to have, is the ability to comment directly in a Bricklist and/or in each set within a Bricklist. Over at boardgamegeek.com, this leads to very creative and interactive lists of games that are the highlight of that community's experience for me. A similar ability here at Brickset, combined with the newly-added "like" ability, has the potential to transform Bricklists from just another feature into a prime attraction of the site.
If this fits into your plans or sounds like a good idea, check out bgg.com and see how "geeklists" are handled. Thanks again for all you do, Huw!
Based on the actual sets, one of my favourite designers in the last few years has to be Nicholas Groves. This website seems to be official:

"One feature that would be nice to have, is the ability to comment directly in a Bricklist and/or in each set within a Bricklist."
To me a given Bricklist is "owned" by the creator and no-one should mess it up. At least the creator should have the option to allow or not to allow other users comments.
