Posted by Huw,
The first of two free Christmas sets is available from today until the 20th of November, or while supplies last, at shop.LEGO.com in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Spend the qualifying amount or over and you will receive 40138 Christmas Train for free.
The offer is still live in the USA too so if you haven't already, best place your order now before it's too late. Please use these links to do so:

Still not happen in Australia yet!
I'm definitely liking the train, still haven't made any of my winter sets, maybe I'll give them a go this year.
Just ordered the Raptor Rampage set and a monsters collectible minifigure
Been waiting for a while now and I was ready at midnight to buy the Parisian Restaurant, Lego City Christmas Calendar, and get double VIP points, plus the free Christmas Train. Merry Christmas to myself! :)
Not exactly "free" when postage is still prohibitive. Until they cut their postage charges, I - and I assume many others down here in the far-flung ex-colonies - will simply buy through other sources. What incentive is there to buy directly from LEGO if that means it costs us twice (or more) the RRP?!!
I tend to only purchase those products on Lego.com that are either very difficult or impossible to find in Australia and get double VIP. The Ant man, the pirate chess set, the Tumbler (which was only 5% discount at Target, and VIP gives me 10%). So it does limit my purchases substantially with Lego, as 95% of what I want is available retail, no postage and good sales. I suppose we simply do not have the population (aka economies of scale) to warrant a warehouse, sadly.
Just put my order in, the train and the double points made it excellent timing.
You said first free Christmas set. Any idea what the second will be?

Thanks for the update!
Any indication on when the seasonal dioramas will be available (40124 and 40125)? My want list is short at the moment and a bit shy of 55€, and if these two don't become available within the double VIP period I might prefer to order when the Gingerbread House is available, which I find slightly more attractive.
Brick Friday weekend, the last weekend of November.
Ordered my own Christmas present (Temple of A..., not sure how to spell it) and my last missing Creator set from this year. I really love the train. Hurt a bit to see the price, but oh well,...
@ab21
November 1st! Should be good with the train, but I don't take any risks and order on day 1. I once missed a set because I ordered too late.
And the site is down...
Just as they've sold out of Scooby Doo Mystery Machines as well...
Any idea when this offer will occur in store..?
Ordered the Palace Cinema set yesterday, to qualify for the Christmas Train and still take the double VIP promo. :-) And this morning I already got the notification that the order has left the Warehouse!
Today I ordered the Lego Dimensions for Wii-U game also from the Dutch Lego LEGO.com which qualified me for a second Christmas Train.
Excited to find out when exactly the Gingerbread House promotion will run in Europe. :-)
@TinyHippo, the free train set is also instore already. I got the train today at the Lego store in Glasgow. They had one of the trains on display. It looks like a nice little set.
I bought a Star Wars set so I also got a free stormtrooper sergeant polybag (basically a normal stormtrooper with a shoulder pauldron), a Star Wars poster (not really fussed about this though), and double VIP points :)
Got the free train today in Vienna with my purchase (Ferris Wheel, 2 PaB cups, and several smaller sets). 40124 and 40125 were also available for sale, but the Gingerbread house is still not thrre.
