Mighty Micros building competition
Posted by CapnRex101,
We promised you a building contest in our announcement for the Super Heroes theme month and here it is!
We would like you to construct a Mighty Micro vehicle based on a comic book character who does not yet have one. This can be for a character from Marvel or DC and can be a hero, a villain or something in between. It could be for someone who already has a LEGO minifigure representation, or someone who doesn't.
Thanks to the LEGO ARP Team we are able to offer some fantastic prizes to the winners, which are as follows:
- 1st place - 76052 Batman Classic TV Series - Batcave
- 2nd place - 76047 Black Panther Pursuit
- 3rd place - A set of Series 15 Collectable Minifigures
Read on for more details...
Requirements:
- The model must follow the design ethos of the Mighty Micros range.
- The wheel base must be only four studs in length, using parts 4600, 6157 or the new wheel base introduced with the Mighty Micros.
- Minifigures need not be included but there should be a 1x2 space which a standing minifigure could occupy.
How to enter:
- Upload a maximum of three photos of your entry to the Brickset Flickr group or post on Instagram with the hashtag #BricksetCompetition
- Multiple entries are permitted.
Entries will be judged on the following:
- How effectively the model captures the character on which it is based.
- Creativity and visual appeal.
The small print:
- Actual built models only please; no LDD submissions.
- Your entries must be “family-friendly”, so avoid any alcohol, sex or drugs-based subject matter and no realistic weapons.
- No custom or non-LEGO components.
- Although we won't be judging your photographic skills, please try to light your models evenly and photograph them against a clean background.
- Please upload your entries by 23:59 GMT on the 31st of March.
- Winners will be announced shortly after the closing date.
- The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Good luck!

Damn i hate this no LDD. I should probably go to my basement and get the box which is full of legos. Only thing is that its bottom is broken...
Hey I was wondering do you have to have a dc/marvel character or just make the car itself? I want to know because I don't have any :( I may just buy a poly bag or something but just curious
Yes! These are the best contests ever!
Oops, multiple entries are allowed! Yes!!
Too bad you have to be a Flickr user to enter. I only have Brickshelf. :(
Sounds good!
^^ You can now post on Instagram. We haven't got time to hunt round antiquated hosting sites, unfortunately.
You just make the car itself, a minifig is not needed.
Is Wonder Woman's invisible jet a legit entry? :D
JK, cool idea, can't wait to see the entries.
I think I'll do this for fun, but not post a picture since I can't. I'll just describe it in great detail instead. :P
Why is the 3rd place prize worth more than the 2nd place prize?
Nice idea for a contest! I might enter depending on time.
I agree with Brian, why is the second place price much, MUCH worse than the third place prize? I mean those recalled (haha) series 15 mini figures are worth big!!! But second place is $30 and a complete set is $64.
I find “family-friendly” to be funny considering modern day LEGO. :-p
Will the 3rd Place prize include Shark suit guy, pending the recall?
^ There is no recall...
Wow those are some fantastic prizes! I'm not so creative but will enjoy the entries. Good luck to all of you entering! I'm sure there will be some awesome creations!
To counter the first comment, thank you for making this brick-built only (no LDD). I find much more pleasure in looking at real entries.
If we include the minifigure, does that get judged as well?
I mean, it wouldn't be fair to give models with minifigures preference over those without, but if a cool minifigures fits super well with a cool model, will it be judged on the merits of both, or on the vehicle alone?
I might have a go at this! I've got a tentative idea...
Can the fake recall rumours actually stop? I mean do you realize how unintelligent you sound thinking that a basic animal design could be copyrighted? Spreading rumours is the worst thing brickset has ever done, it makes the whole site look bad.
Does it absolutely have to be DC or Marvel, or are Superheroes from other sources also allowed?
Great contest--anything that allows me to get the overpriced Batcave without paying for it myself!
I think this was implied, but are we to presume that we only make--one--character vehicle; rather than a pair of vehicles for two characters (like the actual Mighty Micros sets)?
^well, you can do multiple entries, just split it into two entries.
How is doing better because your model has a figure unfair? It's a building contest, that's more building and it completes the piece. Mighty Micros are all about the characters, I mean they are based on the drivers. If a figure wasn't important it might as well be a speed champions contest.
@Brick Belt - We are not taking minifigures into consideration and there is no need to include them in your submissions.
@TomKraut - Keep it to DC and Marvel please.
I think it's OK, but can you have multiple entries of both DC and Marvel?
Create a distinctive ldd division with less valuable prizes and let us compete...we don't all have a great number of lego bricks!Anyway, great contest!
Shoot. I don't have Flickr, or Instagram. Could I post it on Mocpages? I really wanted to enter. Also, how many vehicles can I make? And, does the vehicle have to be based off of a vehicle that the superhero has in comics, or can it be a new design?
Also, does the figure have to have short legs?
I really don't understand the prejudice against digital entries in contests like this. If not for this contest, please at least consider opening up future contests to digital entries, perhaps with the stipulation that the elements used must exist physically.
Guys, you know if you don't have a flickr account you can just create one for free? It'll take you about 2 minutes.
Nice comp. I will definitely have a shot.
Getting a gigantic Batcave for a silly $5 impulse buy... that's just ridiculous. :)P
Dear Brickset,
I'm a dumb-arse who doesn't read stuff before asking dumb questions and who can't cope with simple things unless they're made even simpler. So can you tell me if we actually need to build something to enter the competition? Also, why do we have to include the recalled Shark Guy? I don't have one and it's unfair.
Thanks.
*rolls eyes*
I feel like there should be a wheel base size exception for Mr Fantastic.
Entered this too.
I've been stuck in because of the snow. ;)
@CCC So? You know lego figures come apart so you can build a purist figure it's not that hard. Why are people so uncreative that they think a good figure can't be made from existing parts? I thought you were lego builders not action figure collectors.
Before I go ordering parts from Bricklink, would something like this one for Poison Ivy qualify?
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/LegoPegasister2015/Mocs/mighty_micros_poison_ivy.lxf
Please make some contests that allow rendered LDD models as entries, it would open a door for a lot of people who do not have the bricks and are savvy with the digital side of LEGO!
^^ I like that.
^ I'm gonna side with them, I'm way better at LDD but I enjoy a nice, physical challenge. Kind of surprised with what I do come up with. :)
Are four wheels a requirement? Or can we have less if its within the four stud wheel base?
Can it be a plane? (does it have to have wheels?)
Because of this competition, I went out and bought a mighty micros set, something I was so far away from ever considering. Bravo Lego. I look forward to entering.
I want to make one for Wildstyle. I mean after all, she is Batman's girlfriend! Also, could I just email a jpg of my submission(s)?
Definitely want to do this, only problem is the limitation of the mighty micro chassis. I've built an iron man one and it's pretty good if you ask me. Only problem is I used a go-cart style chassis, part ID 2441. It is the only way I could get a good looking, well built design.
Sorry, rant over.
I think nerzhin nerzhin's Killer Croc's Lagoon Chomper is my favourite so far. :)
The Deadpool cart is pretty cool too.
Neat contest, unfortunately I won't have tuner to enter due to not having enough time. As for those complaining about no LDD, if you don't have enough bricks to build a small car, I feel sorry for you.
^ "This can be for a character from Marvel or DC and can be a hero, a villain or something in between."
Do these have to be for existing LEGO minifigures or can they be for ones LEGO hasn't made yet?
@CCC - As stated above, only DC and Marvel please.
@CM4Sci - Either if fine.
@jmjt4 - Keep it within DC and Marvel Super Heroes please.
When it says no custom components does that include custom decals or stickers? Just to clarify.
I have a question;
If we end up winning, how will we receive said prizes?
I have a question: how are decisions rendered by judges? Because if they all cast a set amount of points and the micro with the highest number if points wins, then multiple entries would only dilute one's chances of winning. However, if the judges decided together to say one particular model deserves first place, and so on and so forth, then multiple entries would equal a greater chance of winning.
I have no questions because I read the article thoroughly and think it was all pretty obvious. Thanks so much for putting this on guys, I've just put up a couple of entries and might try to find a bit of time to do a couple more.
There's already quite a few entries and I'm not at all surprised, those are some fantastic prizes!
I've changed my favourite to Deadpool's unicorn ride. Brilliant.
Hello! Awesome contest. Does the model have to have a steering wheel or can it be something like a control panel or a handlebar?
i just looked at some of the submissions and there a a couple that are too good, maybe even to good to be a mighty micro set.
CCC: That is not the case, it is opinion, I'm sorry you can't understand that. Get better at purism and you'll see.
If first place wants the third place prize, can that be done, or if 2nd place wants the 3rd place prize can that be done.
^ Or what if the person doesn't want the Batcave but a $270 LEGO Gift Card isntead?
I doubt you can change the prize for a gift card. It says Lego provided the prizes, so they are probably just waiting to be shipped to the winner.
Is it allowed to use stickers they exists in lego dc or marvel super heroes sets?
Yeah, i doubt that you can change the prize to a gift card, but swapping prizes...maybe.
Ok, I know I've asked this before, but I'm assuming no one saw my previous comment. So, I REALLY want to enter this contest, but I don't have Flickr or Instagram accounts, and I won't be able to make any. Could I post my entry on Mocpages and give you a link to it here? Or could I email you pics?
It'd be awesome if you could respond! Thanks! :D
mine was up ages ago on instagram, its the winless iron man one
Why won't you be able to?
@Daniel.H
@CM4Sci
Because I know my parents won't let me. Especially because the site isn't just for LEGO creations.
^ How old are you? Why not? Just make an account, make a Gmail, it takes like 5 minutes.
I don't want to give out my age, but I'm a teenager. 13-15 range. It just won't work to make an account.
For the wheel base, can it be a pair of part 2817? I was thinking of a non-standard wheel design, but keeping it in the same general proportions to highlight the Chibi-ness.
^^ Oh, darn. Well I hope you're able to enter! Good luck.
^ I really hope I can. But the admins never reply to my questions. :/
Thanks for the great comp. I have loved building again. Sorry the quality of my photos is not as good as some. Good luck everyone. There are some real quality entries
I have a question. Who and how will determine the winner?
Welp, two of the three characters I'm using have already been used. Thankfully my entries are different enough, lol. I was thinking of doing Gorilla Grodd as well, but I rather like the two entries for him that are there already, and I don't have any ideas to top them.
Will have to enter this, what a brilliant prize for a small build!
Got to say though, I'm giggling at some of the questions being asked, it's like some people didn't even read the rules or just expect special treatment. It's a contest folks, being run at no cost to us with some excellent prizes. Just follow the rules and get building instead of asking for changes and exceptions.
I am relatively new to Brickset, just a quick question on the competition - is it ok to post your finished work on Lego Ideas or does that disqualify you from the competition?
Just saw some awesome looking entries! I imagine selecting a winner won't be easy..
How will the prizes be shipped? I mean, this question only is needed for the winners, but I would still like to know.
Would the wheel base included in set 76051 be accepted?
I have a suggestion: Could the 1st placer get rush shipping for the prize?
Wow. People here are greedy! "Can I have a gift card for a contest I won't win?" "Can I get rushed shipping for my FREE prize that I won't even win!"
It's a contest, if you win you get free LEGO, don't be greedy about it. Maybe if you win you can choose what prize you want. I'm sure if you win first and don't want a $270 overpriced set the guy / gal in second place will gladly take it.
Is it okay if I don´t have the minifig?
Are my entries seen on flickr? because when I'm not signed in they don't appear.
Dear Brickset,
Can I ask a stupid question?
Thanks.
I checked the entries, there are some really great ones. I was thinking of entering hoping I may win, but if I find the time I'll just enter for the fun of it.
Are official LEGO stickers allowed on the models to add small details?
If I go to the Brickset Flickr Group link above, https://www.flickr.com/groups/bricksetcompetitions/
it says the competition is "now closed" but above it says, "Please upload your entries by 23:59 GMT on the 31st of March".
What am I doing wrong?
The text saying entries are now closed was for the advent calendar competition back at the beginning of the year. Just add your photo to the group before the end of the 31st and you're fine.
Whew. Thanks, Brick Belt!
It looks like the sample photo for this is the Superman phone booth entry. Does that mean the winner has been chosen early? :(
What exactly is the "design ethos" of the Mighty Micro range anyhow? Is it no more than X number of parts per vehicle? Or perhaps X long by Y wide by Z tall? There's lots of fantastic creations in the contest. I think some of us may have over built our models when I compare what's entered with an actual MM. This is probably the kind of question which should have been asked sooner, but hey...better late than never, right?
^Just my two cents: I took the 'design ethos' to basically mean it wouldn't look out of place as a mighty micros set. Keeping the wheel placement the same I'd say it's absolutely essential. I would also consider the size to be a big part of that.
That's what I kept in mind while making my entries. I am by no means a judge or anyone involved in running the contest, so take is as you'd like, but I wouldn't make anything too overtly large or that messes with the wheelbase.
^^ I agree - I'm seeing a lot of extremely good entries that don't really fit what a Mighty Micro looks like. Some of the entries that stand out are of existing characters too, just different variants. I don't really wanna see these good entries go to waste, but they could improve them to fit the MM design a bit better.
^^Haha, I was thinking that too, but I didn't really want to say it. Some of the entries I find to be the standouts are unfortunately stretching the 'mighty micros' part of it a bit. It's all up to the judges, of course, but I wouldn't want their job, deciding what fits the bill will be just as hard as deciding the winners, lol.
