40221 Fountain is currently being given away with qualifying purchases in LEGO stores and on Shop@Home. An image of this set was revealed several months ago and met with excitement so I expect it will prove popular now that it is available.

It is difficult to be too critical of a free gift but it must be acknowledged that this is a particularly impressive little set in comparison with other giveaways which have been available in recent months.

Minifigure

The minifigure is fairly generic but looks good nevertheless, with a blonde hair piece and traditional smiling face which matches those included in 10251 Brick Bank and the other Modular Buildings. Her torso has appeared several times before and features a press badge pinned to a red jacket.

It is therefore appropriate that she comes with a printed newspaper tile as well as two cookies, one of which is a spare.

The Completed Model

This set consists of several components, the first of which is a bicycle. This is only the second time the bike has appeared in flame yellowish orange, the first being 41111 Party Train, a Friends set from earlier this year. It would have been nice to see a light on the front but I am satisfied with the bicycle in its present state and am pleased that it has been included in an uncommon colour rather than the typical red. A dog also appears in this set and features the older printed design introduced in 2011 rather than the updated version from 60134 Fun in the Park - City People Pack.

40221 Fountain

There are two dark blue benches which match those in 60134 Fun in the Park - City People Pack quite closely, with the only differences being the length of the benches and the angle of the backrest in the instruction manual. The dark red bin compliments the dark blue quite nicely and the bright lime green colour of the flower pot is equally colourful so all together this set looks remarkably summery which is appropriate given the time of year.

40221 Fountain

The fountain which gives the set its name occupies the majority of the 105 pieces and is quite impressive, with some decorative pearl gold frogs around the base and a lovely plinth which is adorned with fluting and scrollwork. Four Legends of Chima Chi crystals are included to represent water spouting from the fountain and I rather like this technique as it certainly looks natural, particularly if one angles the crystals in different directions.

40221 Fountain

The statue consists primarily of standard minifigure elements, cast in light bluish grey. A beard, helmet and female hair piece are included so you can adapt the statue as you wish and there are a couple of accesories too. I am not particularly keen on the golden wings as they look rather garish but they contrast with the greys quite nicely and match the frogs at the base.

Overall

I think this is an excellent offering for a gift with purchase. Individually the models are not exceptional but together they form an attractive scene and look even better when combined with 60134 Fun in the Park - City People Pack, which you can see below. It is rather strange that this has been marketed as a Creator set rather than as an expansion for 60134 as it is certainly a better fit for the City range than for the Modular Buildings, although it could be integrated with either.

By in United Kingdom,

My guess is she's part of the cookie smuggling ring that began in Detective's Office and the subsequent Flower Cart polybag. The fact that the minifig has a classic smiley face indicates it's a supplement to the modular buildings, and the cookies seem like a random inclusion otherwise. =)

By in France,

I almost spent the extra to get this set today, but I was three pence short so I went back to my regular budget ;~;

By in United States,

This will look fabulous as a companion piece to the Brick Bank, just like how the Flower Cart was a companion piece to the Detective's Office. I hope that polybags designed to accompany Creator Expert sets continues to be a trend going forward. :)

By in Canada,

How many people are going to buy a large green base plate decorate with a sidewalks, place the fountain in the center and adorn with 60134 figures and then surround the whole thing by their modular building collection?

By in United States,

@shaase I bought 4 green baseplates and put the statute in the center to make a central park for my modulars.

If only today's weather was 'summery'

Mine's going behind the Town Hall, so wedding photos can be taken.

By in Venezuela,

Hi, does anyone knows if 60134 Fun in the park set is going to be offered at Amazon US at the retail price and not by any resellers?

By in France,

I loved it as soon as i saw the leaked pictures. I ordered the 60134 Fun in the park set this morning with motor parts for my 10247 Ferris wheel to qualify the purchase. Animated with lot of people in and around it, i think all this stuff is going to bring the ferris wheel to life! Thanks Lego for those nice little sets (without stickers!) :) More of things like these next year please! ;)

By in Canada,

I can't wait for my copy to arrive. So many sets to get to complete the scene for the park.

By in Netherlands,

@ shaase: I don't need to buy a green baseplate, I already own a couple of them. My park will be ready soon ;)

By in New Zealand,

Yaaaayyy!!! We get screwed again!!! You see this? ...
:-/
This is my "Not-even-slightly-surprised" face.

GB£50 = NZ$105 at the current exchange rate, but to get the "free" gift, we have to spend NZ$120. A hefty 20% mark-up, near as makes no difference.

Thanks, TLG. For nothing. As usual.

I love the bike in that colour. It reminds me of Billund.

By in United States,

Honestly my favorite giveaway so far this year. Lots of great accessories, and the gold frogs alone make this worth getting.

By in Australia,

^^^ Block N Roll, dont forget the minimum spend for free shipping!
Im going to order the Brick Bank next week, use VIP points to drop the cost but still get free shipping, will pick up the People Pack in a few months i think.

@Cindipool - when im just short i add a single piece from the parts section, gets you over the line (often do it for free shipping to Australia).

By in United States,

This is a great giveaway item, and I'm going to make an order before the offer ends for sure.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm so happy that I'm getting this set with my order and really look forward to making my park! It's nice in terms of parts, too, and I like the use of the Chi crystals; it really does look like a working fountain...

By in Japan,

Great review, definitely makes me want one. But as TLG doesn't operate an online store in Japan, and there is no announcement from the very small number of Lego Stores operated here, (They've announced a Nexus Knights playmat with qualifying purchases this weekend... meh) I guess I'm Sol on this. Otherwise I could order through the US site and ship to my parents, but then they'd have to ship to me....

By in Ireland,

Hadn't noticed that the colour is flame yellowish orange. I guess that means normal yellow bicycles will keep going for €20+ a piece on Bricklink...
I agree with the comment about the golden wings, I think I'll leave them off altogether. Also would have liked lbg hands to make the statue completely monochrome.

By in Sweden,

In Sweden you can easily find non-exclusive LEGO sets retailing at about 60-75% of the official LEGO store prices. These nice giveaways offset that price difference and makes it worthwhile to consider buying at the official LEGO store. Without them, it would make no sense at all.

By in Czechia,

I agree with JD_Graham & nebulousdavid's opinion - its is labeled right - Creator not City set.

By in France,

@Cmdr_Roy Thanks for the tip! I'll remember it for next time :)

By in United Kingdom,

I was able to visit Westfield White City last night and got one of these with my sets. It's an excellent set, free or not. But I agree that grey wings would have looked better.

The shop assistant who was served me was very nice and gave me extra gifts too: Mr Freeze, May The Fourth Stormtrooper and poster :-) I was very a very happy shopper.

By in United States,

Maybe I'm reading to far into this but it kind of annoys me that they give the male version of the statue a sword and the female version a flag. Feels like they are reinforcing stereotypes that men can fight and women...not so much. Could just be me. Although it is a nice freebie I'll give it that.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Isn't it supposed to be a Roman Emperor as opposed to a female statue in the second incarnation? Maybe it's just me... Shame about the wings though - great set otherwise

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love this! I already ordered mine!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Keener w/o the wings or gold accents, me thinks. And w/a 2x2x2 slope, she'd be better suited.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It is a truly lovely set! Has so many potential uses and can be expanded forever. This one will be quite popular because of its playability....it can go anywhere. And the fountain is first class. Everyone needs a fountain. I thought the bike was bright light orange. Was I wrong?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I swapped the wings with those in the Bank. There, the gold looks slightly more appropriate, and the grey looks far better on the statue.

By in United States,

I love this little set. I posted pictures of it on Facebook and Instagram first in its original configuration and then I substituted the winged knight with the crumbling statue from Dol Guldur (Hobbit) and finally with the Weeping Angel from Dr. Who. I think I need to substitute the water blue water crystals with red ones to really give it a charge.
