World's largest LEGO Store to open in Leicester Square
Posted by TheBrickPal,
The UK's new flagship LEGO Store in Leicester Square will open on November 17th.
The new landmark store will be the biggest LEGO Brand Retail Store in the world, the 37th LEGO store in Europe and cover 914 sqm total area over two floors.
A LEGO Big Ben, made from more than 200,000 bricks, is currently being built brick-by-brick and will dominate both levels of the store. The LEGO store version will also feature a working clock face, which will be illuminated at night.
The store will also boast a LEGO retail environment, exclusive product sets, hands-on building areas, building demonstrations and a Pick & Build Brick Wall.
“We want to inspire and develop children across the globe through creative LEGO play experiences, and our LEGO Brand Retail stores allow children, parents and fans to explore the many different LEGO products while getting a truly unique and immersive experience of the LEGO brand," said Loren Shuster, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at the LEGO Group.
"I am looking forward with excitement to November 17th, where children and parents are invited to experience a world beyond their imagination as they venture for the first time inside the new store. I am sure that the unique brick-built symbols of London featured in the store will excite fans worldwide as well as in the UK.”
Also exclusive to the Leicester Square store is the new LEGO mascot, Lester the tea-drinking LEGO Minifigure.

Excellent. Now will there be personal invites and what can we expect from the official opening in-terms of gifts with any specified spend.
I hope that minifig is a gift when it opens! I don't live in London but I hope to go to this store someday. Mall of America store is still my favorite ;)
^Would be strange wording to call him 'exclusive' in my opinion if he wasn't available to buy in some way. Perhaps a keyring like the 'I heart NY' things in New York?
The store sounds great! Though I wouldn't hold out hope for any discounts being in prime tourists gauging territory!
According to a different article I read at http://www.retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2016/09/lego-to-open-worlds-biggest-store-in-leicester-square, he is going to be available to buy.
I'm really excited about this now, hadn't really clocked that it's going to be the biggest Lego shop in the world! And an exclusive cool minifigure is definitely a bonus. Roll on November!
That minifigure is looking a bit brexity.
Lester looks a bit like the quintessential "gent" or Oxford Street Ambassadors. That waistcoat is awesome though :)
And on the "exlcusive" theme, does "The store will also boast... exclusive product sets" mean that the Leicester Square branch will sell stuff I can't get ANYWHERE ELSE, not online, not in White City, nor in Stratford, Windsor, even Billund?
Probably means exclusive as in not available at any other retailer, rather than not available at any other Lego store.
I want a minifig of Lester...
Definitely going to try and lay hands on at least one Lestor mnifigure.
Given I work in central London, this is a no brainer...see you there!
Great. Have been waiting for news about the opening. Now there will be a visit there to.
May be getting the exclusive if it is still available in December.
"The store will also boast a LEGO retail environment" - it's a shop, what do you expect!
I like the design of the Lester minifigure, and since he may be available for regular purchase and not simply limited to the store's grand opening, I hope some Lesters make their way to Bricklink [and remain reasonably affordable]. I would definitely order one!
Ooh, Tim Brooke-Taylor minifig! Goody goody yum yum
Wow, the biggest in the world... Well I wish Lego would open a store nearer to me in the south west rather than yet another London store... We don't all live in cities...
Is November 17th going to be the 'soft opening' or 'grand opening' where there is usually the free LEGO store set?
A new lego store is always nice but I'm not sure about this one. Living in London for ten years the novelty 'going into town' for shopping has well and truly worn off. This place is going to be crazily busy and is across the way from the M+M store, which is there is ever a shop that makes you want to lie down on the floor and sob, M+M is it. I want to love this shop but I feel it will be more of a tourist attraction. Few more smaller shops our of London would be better.
Shame its a Thursday launch.... I would love to take my kids on the train up to London for a Lego store launch but the government require them to be locked up between 9am - 3:30pm on weekdays!
Nice! I suspect I'll be there when the doors open :-)
At least now I have somewhere to go when killing time in London
I happened to be in London that following weekend. Great bit of timing. Although expecting it to be very very busy!
There is massive hoarding around where the shop is going to be and there is a picture of him on that hoarding so you can have your photo taken with him already. I can't wait for the store to open. I want a Lester. Mind you three would be nice - one for my Big Ben, One for my Tower Bridge and one to go outside my Buckingham Palace. Oh and then maybe another for my desk at work.
I'm impressed the Copenhagen Store has not been expanded/relocated yet - it's always jam-packed with people..
There's already one in Westfield shopping center in London. Okay, that's not central London but easily accessible by train.
Failing that there's Bluewater and Brighton for myself so the lure of the rather lacklustre minifigure is just not enough to waste the train fare.
As 'Bookmum' says, it's going to be a tourist attraction and sounds like a desperate cash-in before the holiday season starts and Rogue One hits cinema screens in December.
Now, if they started to do UK exclusives at this store to compete with the SDCC stuff, then maybe we'll be on to something and it would be worth the trip.
So the 17th is the store opening.
Or is it the "Store Opening" when we can get an exclusive Lego shop model if we are in the first 500 customers to spend £100?
I guess we will hear more, when the official invites go out to London FOL's ?
So jealous. I don't collect minifigs, but I would love to get Lester.
Why Thursday not Friday : ( But anyway I'm going London during that weekend. Awesome!
I'll enjoy the grand opening by thinking about it from my desk at work, not really any conciliation for either being bereft of 2 days holiday or not getting ALL the way to London.
Having said that though, ironically, this will probably be the easiest store in the whole of the UK for me to get to, in terms of time - Cardiff would require probably 4-5 hrs to get to, Brighton also 4-5 hrs and the other London stores are a bit out of the way so I'd take some time getting across London. In comparison, I can get a 2.5 hr train to Waterloo and then just have to go across the river for maybe half an hour more to get to this new store. Still, over 6 hours of a day travelling makes it feel like a pilgrimage rather than going to my friendly local Lego store!
The Lester minifigure looks nice, and the Big Ben sounds spectacular! Shame I will have to experience them through a monitor until I can fit in a weekend trip.
OMG OMG OMG I'm heading to London on the 15th November so couldn't have timed that any better if I tried....sorry can't help myself to brag about going to be there....Lego London here we come
I'm particularly intrigued by the possibly of a larger PAB wall, assuming a larger variety rather than more of the same. I wouldn't be surprised if this store is the exception to standard PAB pricing in the UK, it would be a great pity to see Lego pull the tourist pricing trick but it's certainly a prime location for it.
Definitely pleased to see Lester is leaping from hoarding image to physical minifig as I'd hoped he might, will certainly be snapping a few up if possible.
Aw man, yet another reason to go to the UK!
37 Lego stores in Europe, zero in the entire southern hemisphere... I'm getting really sick of this
this sounds nice for those in the U.K but the lego store in pleaention ca and the second hand one in concord are my favorite i dont care about the size juse friendly costumer service
I agree-gree with magmafrost. Even the Lego factory in Kladno here next door, what a mess...
Hi there, just want to ask a question. The article mentions that "The new landmark store will be the biggest LEGO Brand Retail Store in the world, the 37th LEGO store in Europe and cover 914 sqm total area over two floors."
However, there is also this piece of news over at Reuters last May that mentions Shanghai, China having the largest LEGO Store in the world fairing at 1 square kilometer and also consisting of two floors. Here's the link:
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-lego-idUSKCN0Y22E6
So I'm just wondering, which is which? Just wanting to clarify though.
Thanks!
I'm going to the UK next year! This will be awesome!
I will be staying 5 blocks away next summer. I will be there!
Ahhh i Just visited London and they open it now? Urgh
^^^^ Google how big 1 square kilometer is... I know China want the biggest, but that clearly is a mistake (without reading the article)..
Ahh good. An opening date!
I'll book this date off work and go attend the opening!
Hoping the exclusive Lego Store set will be available (usually is with store openings)

Hi,
I live in the Midlands & am tempted to book the day off & travel down. Can anybody give me any idea what could/would make this a worthwhile use of my holiday?
Ta for any input
Kev.
Cool!
ah man, i'm not in the country then!!
Well I guess I shall be booking a days holiday on November 17th! I like the mini figure, hopefully he comes with a teapot accessory as well.
