Geoffrey and Friends now available in the UK
Posted by Huw,
I have just read over on BricksFans that 40228 Geoffrey & Friends is now available in the UK, priced at £9.99, from Toys R Us.
Like this year's seasonal figures, he was designed by Mel Caddick and is a must-buy for those of us that collect hard-to-find stuff.

The kidnapper is back!
Think I will wait and see if it turns up as part of a promo at some point.
I never found him in the USA.
Interesting thing I observed recently is that in the US, this set offers the most Ø5.9mm ball cups per dollar of any currently available set (12 ball cups for $10, or 1.2 ball cups per dollar). Of course, among retired sets, it's beaten by http://brickset.com/sets/41540-1/Chilbo, who has 7 ball cups for $5.
The UK price for Geoffrey and Friends doesn't offer the same distinction, since there are many sets that offer 1.6 to 2 ball cups per pound sterling, way better than this set's 1.2.
Wait a little, the price fell from 9€99 to 4€99 in France... maybe soon in the UK!
He has not become widely available in the USA yet, for those looking for him. So don't worry! You didn't miss him. Just keep your ear to the ground.
yes we already have in france 50 % sale off at 4.99 € (not a big success i believe)

no exclusive part for the fig in this set
Its even better than expected in the UK , He's free with £45 spend. Their website was all over the shop this am but now seems to be ok, just ordered one with an unexplainably low Capitol building set, and free postage... and Goldcard points.....
It uses some interesting parts, so I will definently pick this up for halloween if it comes to Sweden.
Glad to hear I didn't miss out on him. I hate TRU with a passion but I like the set... well I like the mini figures and the creepiness of the set. :)
There isn't much you could make out of LEGO that's creepier than those Elves, but this is it!
I will definitely NOT be going for the exclusives this year...
Grrr... Brickset... why did you make me look at his horrendous visage again?!

Glad I don't have to worry about missing this promo :P
@Matt89190: Mel's been designing the seasonal sets, monthly mini model builds, and other promotional sets for a couple years now: http://brickset.com/sets/list-15589. Having met her, her idea of "cute" includes such things as Pikachu, My Neighbor Totoro, etc… generally, things that most people would probably agree are pretty adorable. It's only in the past few months that the AFOL community seems to have developed a weird obsession with getting creeped out by fairly innocuous stuff.
It's only because in the last few months the seasonal and promo sets like this have been weird looking.
I don't blame the designs, it's LEGOs fault for having a limited brick base to use. LEGO had Mixels for years and many other things, like the seasonal 2014 sets, time to make new eyes. LEGO also should just avoid humans made from bricks.
why did I see this before I go to sleep. Geoffrey nightmares again...
@Aanchir ... that's because this "fairly innocuous" set screams "two children still missing after being abducted by drunken giraffe mascot".
The box art wasn't helping, though, but at least we've been spared that this time. I still find this set *terrifying*, and introducing this to my Lego City would require immediate intervention by the Justice League.
I like this, and let us not forget that she designed the one we've been waiting for: http://brickset.com/sets/40220-1/London-Bus. I've got a fair portion of her work from the last two years in my collection: all subconsciously gathered.
@ Aanchir, I can't speak for others, but I'm generally creeped out about figures which are out of proportion, in particular the distance between the eyes. For example, http://brickset.com/sets/40126-1/Alien makes me heave, yet I'm very attracted to one of Mel's cutest and wierdest creations, http://brickset.com/sets/40096-1/Spring-Tree (a tree wiv eyes wassa'olabaah?).
Yeah, I own "Spring Tree" as well, and I think it's really gorgeous. I put it into my city's botanical gardens.
And it's not the designer in question, I think it's more what happens when you have brick-built people and animals. They just don't look very good. And putting two kids with the sinister giraffe has just added all kinds of creepy undertones.
It's really great!
It's the printed eyes imo. It creates an uncanny valley effect that is immediately offputting. Humanizing something that is kinda human in form, but isn't.
i like this set!
I think he is kind of cute. Might treat myself as I think all the seasonal stuff (those elves! That pilgrim chap!) are just too freaky for me to consider buying. Interesting to learn the designer likes Totoro and Pikachu. Lego models of them would be FANTASTIC. Especially Totoro.
