The art of LEGO Bionicle
Posted by Huw,
As you will no doubt recall, Bionicle was re-launched in 2015 after a 6 year hiatus, only to be retired again last year.
By way of thanks to Bionicle's many loyal and dedicated fans, LEGO has published a book, The Art of LEGO Bionicle, containing over 100 pages of stunning artwork and illustrations showing the dynamic vision that brought the theme back to life.
You can download a PDF copy (130Mb) of it from our server. Just 100 copies have been printed so physical versions will be hard to come by. However, we've been given five of them which we'll use for prizes in a competition that we'll announce shortly.
You can view a few sample spreads after the break.
Special thanks to Steen Lindeberg for providing the PDF and the hard copies, and to the entire Bionicle team for taking the time to produce such a wonderful celebration of one of LEGO's most enduring and popular product lines.
Talking of competitions, we have commenced judging of the Star Wars and Mixels entries and will aim to announce the winners by the end of January, to make sure that we have time to give full consideration to all the excellent entries.

Cool!
I never got any buildable figures and I regret it
I'd love to own a physical copy, the artwork is stunning!
Awesome! I didn't realize Brickset was getting copies to distribute as well!
I'll be eagerly awaiting details of how I can win one, since I'm bound and determined to get my hands on a copy of this one way or another.
Amazing. I'm still upset it ended so abruptly. They relied to much on the former fan base to come back for the new series. They where good sets though. Looking forward to the next lineup of Star Wars figures.
This is really slick! Love seeing that LEGO is publishing content like this.
^^^ I was a bit behind other sites in posting this due to my vacation.
I sure hope that it's a Bionicle contest! :D
This is incredible. I just wish I could have computer wallpapers of it.
That's pretty! I don't want to download a big PDF right now... perhaps I shall wait and see what this competition is.
^^ The PDF is high enough resolution for you to make your own.
Ah the sweeping plains of Mata Nui - there will always be a part of me that yearns for the days of playing the Mata Nui online game only for my PC to crumble under the bandwidth, or trying to buy blind packets of rubber masks to get the rarest ones. As expected the designs are glorious and would make a great coffee table discussion piece, assuming you had one of the physical copies!
It's a good thing there are hints of techniques living on in the Star Wars constraction, but then the story behind them doesn't have that enigmatic edge.
A competition? Odd are i wont stand a chance, but ill try!
Ooo yay Biosector posted this to but I hadn't had a chance to peruse it. Thanks for posting this Huw. I'm very eager about this contest though where we can win a hard copy.
Bionicle had such amazing artwork Its really a shame they canned it so soon. I hope that what ever lego does next for their own Constraction based theme, its got this kind of level of production put into it. I miss Bionicle already and it just barely left, I can still find Lingering Bionicle sets on shelves. *single tear*
Wow... stunning, really... something with this much effort put into it, with such dedicated designers, and a nearly 10 YEAR history as one of LEGO's most loved and successful toy lines... gets a revival that barely lasts 2 years, with relatively little advertising, and zero fanfare over its end. I'm biased as I've been a fan of the line since 2007 (the Barraki and Mahri ROCKED!), but... man, this revival had so much promise! I genuinely enjoyed most of the sets that came out, and was hoping for the wonderful things we would get next year, I mean, a Netflix show, a Makuta building contest, I couldn't wait... aaand it ended. *Sigh*
I sooo want that art book, and you can bet that I'm doing whatever drawing/giveaway/contest/contract written in blood you guys are planning, if only to show my support to the designers behind this wonderful thing, and possibly to put behind the display of the Toa Mata and the Toa Masters right on my desk... : )
