LEGO Ideas Test Lab announced

Posted by ,

From the LEGO Ideas blog:

"Today we’re launching LEGO Ideas Test Lab, a test version of an updated LEGO Ideas software platform. We’ve emailed invitations to 5,000 of the most active LEGO Ideas and LEGO Rebrick members. Please help us test the new platform between January 18th and April 14th. If you didn’t get an email invite, you’re still welcome! The test is limited to 7,500 people. Head over to LEGO Ideas Test Lab to sign up.

"On LEGO Ideas Test Lab we'll be running a new kind of challenge during this period, which differs from the standard LEGO Ideas and slightly from the LEGO Rebrick experience that you're used to, but don't worry - neither of these two classic experiences are going away. On LEGO Ideas Test Lab, you can participate in an exclusive Fourth Build Challenge, that's about expanding upon given LEGO Creator 3in1 sets. You can also join in small activities along the way and socialize in the Community Café.

"We can't wait to get started and are very excited about what we'll learn from testing this platform together with many of you. We're looking forward to how LEGO Ideas Test Lab will shape the future of LEGO Ideas."

Can someone explain what it is, please. I've no idea. Some sort of gamification system?

I'm glad the site owner has no clue what the article is talking about either. lol I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

By in Belgium,

¨^¨Maybe something to discuss on the Brickset forum then ;)

Edit: According to HasanJensen (in the Ideas blog comments) it's some kind of contest to build a 4th model for existing 3-in-1 Creator sets.

And I want that furniture shown in the (probably unrelated) picture!

Nobody knows what it really is yet. What I have put into the article is all the post says. LOL! Sounds intriguing, though.

It looks pretty neat. Based on my limited experience with it so far, it looks like they're tinkering with the idea of granting more weight to the input of more active members of the community.

I got the email yesterday day and enrolled. It's like they give you challenges along with Lego ideas and rebrick.

Agreed with juno2023 above. It looks as though by participating in the challenges and engaging in the community discussions you'll earn 'bricks'. The more 'bricks' you have, the higher level you achieve. Then you can support Ideas projects with your bricks.

The higher level you are, the more bricks you can allocate to your Idea support.

I joined like 10 minutes after the site went live. It seems pretty cool. It seems to be an extension of ideas, so I'm wondering if eventually they'll have contests for things to be turned into sets or something?

@Huw: it's simple ;) - the LEGO Ideas team tests a new software and new features for LEGO Ideas. This test site will close in April and hopefully this is how LEGO Ideas will look like in the future. I think the "4th build" challenge/contest is just for fun and it is open only for those 7500 LEGO fans who are testing the platform. Oh yes, and these 7500 people can post suggestions for new features too on LEGO Ideas Test Lab.

I joined but I'm already a little disappointed. I thought there would be a platform/software like LDD or something to make the builds but after all you have to do them with real bricks you own and unfortunately I can't do that very easily. Ill still stick around to see how it goes and what its all about.

Wow that article was sufficiently vague!

I was invited and I kinda understand what the test lab is. So Ideas will have challenges that users can join. Winners of these competitions receive prizes. You can earn bricks which are like points that make your votes count more. An example is say I have 10 bricks then my vote counts as two votes for a project. Basically Lego Ideas will have contests and features separate from the main project approval part of the site.

Excited, I got my invitation and I was one of the first 25 to join! I hope the "experiment" works out! I have my first two badges already and some followers. But My Minnie Mouse Project is still at 195 votes of support!

I don't understand the point of this. It sounds to me like it's just more contests on Lego Ideas, which I guess could be good. I'm interested to see how this turns out

I have no idea neither, but I have already did the first acitvity with a duck. I don't know what we need to do with the site, but I do only what they say :p
