LEGO Ideas review results expected later today
Posted by Huw,
We've just had word that LEGO is planning on announcing the results of an Ideas project review later today.
As you'll see from the image after the break, 12 projects from the 'second 2016 review period' are under consideration.
Post your predictions in the comments, then check back here at 3pm GMT, 10am EST for the results.
You'll also find larger pictures of each project on the LEGO Ideas blog.

My prediction: none of them...
I'm not very good at predicting these kind of things, but I hope that Lovelace & Babbage will make it into a set, as someone working 'in IT' I love to have a set referencing the early computing days. :-)
I'd love it if the construction site or the observatory made it through, because they'd look really great in my town. I'd also love it if Voltron made it through, just because of AWESOME.
But I'm not hopeful.
As much as i hate the Nasa set i think it might have a chance, i mean it gained 10,000 supporters in like 2 or 3 weeks! But if this one was out i don't think any of these would become sets.
Observatory seems like a safe bet. Not too big or tied to IP rights.
I honestly couldn't see any of these becoming sets. However, I'd guess that the little house on the prairie set will be passed. It seems good but will probably be scaled down if it becomes a set.
Probably the observatory for the reasons Bumblepants gave or the Women of NASA for the positive publicity it would get Lego.
The Eagle 5 from Spaceballs is the one with the least chance since the agreement with Lucas to have the movie made in the first place was that there would be no merchandise for the film.
I don't see there being much of a chance for any of these to make it, but if there was to be one or two that would make it, it would be Spaceballs or the Lamborghini. The problem is all the other sets are too large, but then again the Apollo set was accepted, so the Lamborghini could. Spaceballs seems too small, however to be something that feel exclusive, and would not be that marketable in my opinion. Lovelace and Babbage aren't really meant to be 100% LEGO, and look to ask the set owners to get microcomputers to put into it, which LEGO would never accept. The sets with buildings are way too large, as is Voltron, and the UCS landspeeder. The collider also doesn't seem marketable, but rater more educational than marketable. All we can do is wait for the results in a few hours. Best of luck to the creators of these sets!
I could see Voltron becoming a set if they scale the scope down a bit and just make the main mech. The reboot show "airs" on Netflix too, so the audience reach of it is quite wide and looking at existing Voltron toys there's stuff like Funko Pop figures so clearly the Voltron people are open to having their IP turned into toys for other brands.
It'd really just be a question of whether or not LEGO are interested.
In the last post saying results would be delayed they said the good news is that they've got good news. So I'm guessing it's a licensed set, as they mentioned delays beyond their control. I guess the Addams family mansion.
None of the above projects seem to fit the Lego Ideas intents (i.e. smallish sets without any IP). Really hard to see which one would come on top.
Of all the Ideas reviews, I have a hard time seeing any of these getting picked up. Has that happened with a review previously? That none were selected?
I'd love to see Voltron. Especially since we've been getting a lot of Voltron merch recently ranging from the Funko POP figure to Bandai's Soul of Chogokin figure. It could happen.
Yeah.. probably none. All of them are either too big, random, and just wouldn't sell.
I think that the UCS Landspeeder won't make it.
Women of NASA is too similar to research institute as an idea IMO. I'd most like to see the Addams Family mansion make it but am not hopeful due to size. Most of them are just too big so its really hard to guess. Of the smaller ideas Lovelace and Babbage most appeals to me
I'm with Huw on this, don't have much faith in any of 'em. None that I'd really really want either.
If one of these does get made, it'll probably be the observatory.
In a blog post a while back they said they'd be having good news, so none of them doesn't seem likely. Not particularly interested in any of them though.
I'm rooting for the Modular Construction Site. I think it's original and it would make a lovely set. I like the subject matter of the Large Hadron Collider but I think the Particle Accelerator which made the 10000 mark earlier was a much cooler set and it didn't make the cut.
I really hope they'll pick the observatory - it's a well designed model and a very unique idea!
Unfortunately I expect None of them will pass, but I think Addams Family Mansion or Merchants House have a very very slight chance.
I haven't got a clue which one is going to pass! To everybody who's thinking that none of them will pass, I would probably agree with you except that the blog post announcing the results in late February stated that the team had some good news... this probably means one of these will pass (somehow).
Tought choices, nothing really screams 'easy win'
- I'm not sure having 2 buildings in Ideas theme at the same time would be accepted by bean counters. This cuts the options to almost half.
- Lambo, not sure it fits the line, so far all licensed cars this size were legendary, this is not even on the Caterham level.
- SW is a no go for long time.
- LHC - I don't see a big following, we will have Saturn/Apollo in the science department soon. And LHC is to Apollo on the recongition level same as that Lambo to F40 for example.
- Lovelace - too much history, not enough pop-culture or recognition by general population
- NASA ladies - to close to the previous one, but still gets TLG some 'socially correct' points ...
- Spaceballs - pop-culture oddity, has some following but would be probably the least known of the movie licensed Ideas. Slight chance.
- Voltron - could be kind of playset that is not so common in Ideas, even if the license is not much know, a fighting robot is still a fighting robot to the kids, might have some general overreach
BTW considering how TLG works it is not probable but what if ... the delay was caused to wait for the Oscars, to see if the 'Hidden Figures' movie about NASA ladies get some recognition so they can cash on it too ;)
I bet (and hope) Women of NASA makes it. What I'd really want is Spaceballs, but...
Am guessing observatory, everything else a no.
I'm not really a huge fan of any of these, but I think the Lamborghini is the most likely to win.
Observatory. I just can't see any of these becoming sets.
I like the "Ship in a Bottle," but I'm betting it will be a vehicle of some sort. After all, Lego doesn't make enough vehicles.
Really, most are just meh...
There are a lot of either seen-it-before ideas or major licence issues there. Whether deliberate or not , the Lovelace and Babbage designs are awfully close to Sydney Padua's comics:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrilling-Adventures-Lovelace-Babbage-Computer/dp/0141981512
And LEGO deliberately removed the women-only focus from the title of the scientists set, so - noble as it may be - I don't see them going with a 'women-of-' set. The observatory would be nice, but I think as it stands with that dome it's a massive parts count, even for one of LEGO's own modular buildings. So if I had to place a bet, I'd suggest none of them are going ahead.
In terms of the Spaceballs set, I don't think the deal between George Lucas and Mel Brooks about no merchandising would hold it back. Doing a quick Google search the only thing I see mentioned is "no action figures" which would make sense as that was the hot toy of the day and Dark Helmet would be awful close to Darth Vader. Plus it's been so long and Lucas sold Lucasfilms to Disney that I'm sure LEGO could work something out if they wanted to go that route.
i hope the Iron giant is chosen
I don't think any have a great chance, out of them all I'd say the Addams family is most likeley, but not at the size it is now.
I really would like to see MOCs not based on some tv series/movies real world cars or something like that turned into sets. They tend to not get picked though, since they are usually too elaborate.
I'd love the modular construction site, but it's not going to become an ideas set. No chance. I'd guess either the observatory or none at all.
I'll guess at the Lambo.
I'm hoping Eagle-V or Voltron gets selected. The latter would be pretty big for an Ideas set, but Eagle-V would be just about the right size. Supposedly they are working on Spaceballs 2, which may help.
If Eagle-V gets made, the set name has to be Spaceballs: The Lego Set.
I'd like the LHC to win, but I haven't a clue which one actually will. There's a lot of IP there.
I'm just shooting in the dark, but maybe Voltron? Robots are always cool, and popular with both adults and kids.
@BigDumbWookiee Yes, in the review with Golden Girls and LOZ The Wind Waker in it, none of them were selected. That's the only time though.
I'm with Huw, none of them. However I was shocked that the fishing market is being made. The Japanese building and haunted house have already been sets. Star Wars is already a thing, only one I can picture is if they got the Voltron license for Dimensions sets too. Maybe observatory tower as the fishing set is being made. The construction set LEGO would just make themselves and not give credit (aka steal like they normally do.)
Lego Ideas has gone so far. I remember when it was LEGO CUUSOO and there was no time limit for projects. I was heartbroken when Mini Shop Series, which I voted for, didn't win.
I'm hoping it's the Observatory or the Medieval House.
I'd really love the Addams Family Mansion - that is so amazing! Seems doubtful though, since it is such a massive set, and with the Old Fishing Store out soon it seems unlikely. I'd be thrilled if I'm wrong and this one gets picked! Maybe they could scale it down a bit while retaining its beauty and intricacy...
The only other one I like at all is the Little House project, although it is also probably too big to get chosen. The implementation is also a bit too "straight" for my taste - if they could add some imaginative details and also scale this down it could be a winner. The rest are just so blah. So really I have no idea what (if anything) they're going to choose...
No Star Wars set has made it past this point so I'm hoping that Luke's Landspeeder UCS will be approved.
Perhaps the lamborghini, but I've be wrong on pretty much every previous prediction.
It's Women of NASA
There you go ... it is the NASA ladies
Women of NASA.
Two voting polls prior to the announcements of these would be fun:
1. Which would you like to see pass?
2. Which do you thing will pass?
I'd like to see how accurate or delusional the Brickset community is.
The worst of all made it through...
Women of NASA? Really? It's just a collection of minifigures and why women? Why can't it be about both men and women contributing?
There were a few that would be nice to have, but I understand that they would never work because of the size and cost. What I would really like to see is Lego offer the instructions for sale from the losers for, say $10, so that we could build them ourselves. That way, the creators would get a cut (hopefully), Lego would make a few bucks, and us consumers could build what we want (minus any special stickers or bricks in new colors).
