First look at Apollo 11 Saturn V Rocket!

Posted by ,

The success of the Apollo 11 Saturn V Rocket LEGO Ideas project was announced last summer but we have heard little about it since then. However, the first image of the final model has been revealed today on LEGO's official Facebook page and a release date in June has been confirmed.

This shot captures only the top half of the rocket but certainly gives an impression of its enormous scale. Some quick calculations indicate that the section shown in the image measures some 51cm in height and based on that I would imagine that the total height of the rocket will be around 110cm or 43 inches. If so, the Saturn V will be by far the tallest set ever produced!

Are you excited for the Apollo 11 Saturn V Rocket? I know I am!

About time! It looks like they got the whole thing pretty nicely round. Interested to see the bottom half and the inside build.

Almost one year ago, whoa that logistics of sets sure takes time.

By in United Kingdom,

The set I've wanted to build since I was five, quite a few years ago now. A Must-Purchase.

By in United Kingdom,

I wonder if there's a tiny Lunar Module under that faring...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Awesome!!! But what's with only having two astronauts? Michael Collins always gets the short end of the stick...

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to having this one sit alongside my space shuttle.

Aaaand we have lift-off! Well, nearly at least :) From what we see so far, this promises to be a very cool set. It's certainly on my list

By in United States,

What a great model! Ideas has just been super. I hope it comes with some sort of cradle to display it on it's side, I don't think it'll fit on any of my shelves.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

And now in detail:

- the support tower doesn't seem to be part of the set, but o/c this would blow the number of bricks towards the moon - literally.
- it will be a SNOT-monster
- the thickest part you ca see on this pic is the third stage, so it will be much thicker at the bottom

Just incredibly excited. When ideas anounced they chose this set i was afraid that it got scaled down a lot but it seems they didn't.

Oooh, I like the look of this! Wonder how much it'll cost? (So many great sets have come out this year, I could never collect them all!)

By in United States,

i had a plastic model of this when i was a kid(wish i still had it) but you can all be sure that i will be ordering one the minute it is available on line in the USA. i am sure it is going to be big bucks but i don't care. And as for the wife, well it's better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.

By in United States,

This is a must-purchase for me! I can't wait to see the actual size, part count and bottom of the model. My Lego wishlist keeps on growing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does anyone know if the launch station will be included to support the rocket? One meter tall Lego cylinder by itself is a disaster for tilting and falling.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks awesome and if the modules can come apart and include a lunar lander then neither my wallet nor my wife will be able to tell me no :)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Can this be added to the Brickset Database so I can add it to my "Want" list :) Thanks!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can-t Wait. Bring it on!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh man I can hardly wait! That thing's gonna be a monster!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Can't wait. When is it released?

Gravatar
By in United States,

7.8/10 no Skylab module.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am really excited for this one. Can't wait!

Awesome! I can't wait.

As a keen amateur astronomer and general space geek this set was always going to be a no brainer for me.
I'm glad to see that it's going to be impressively huge. It'd be cool if it came with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin mini figures. Hopefully we will see a full press release soon.

By in Australia,

I cant wait to get this. Unfortunately I think the price will be out of this world..... :(

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Hmm, isn't it April 1? I'll wait until tomorrow before I get excited.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks incredible

Gravatar
By in United States,

Man I can't wait for this! If it really is gonna be 40 inches tall... what an incredible display piece it'll make.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

I know what it is but seriously this looks like a MOC made by a kid.LOL.....

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'm concerned about the number stickers.

At 110 cm, it would about 1% of the size of the real rocket (not far from microfig scale)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is astounding! I never get so excited about any set that's not Star Wars. This makes up for having to wait for the new Hyperdrive Booster Ring!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I don't trust this...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not sure why some people think this is an April Fools joke. It wasn't posted on April 1st, and besides that, we've known about the Saturn V for some time now. Anyway, I'm relieved they didn't scale it down. Can't wait!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Awaiting release. But...
Houston, we have a problem
with poor photography.
Probably the worse I've seen of the set..

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Brickeric Hopefully it will be all printed parts like other ideas sets!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't even want to think how expensive this set will be, but I do want it. I would want it more with the right number of astronauts.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

At 1179 parts one expects it to be in the region of £140-160. However if it has NASA licensing one expects that approximation to double though for the purposes of a harmonious marriage, it'll be £150 wife-pounds and I'll have in anyway. For a such prestigious kit I expect no stickers but for the extra ones included for the bumper/windscreen! So bring it on Lego but don't take the proverbial.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely need to add this to my space collection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A first day buy for me!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I have a bad feeling about this... No, sorry, wrong universe ;-)

I am soo excited. Lego Space is my all-time favorite theme, be it Classic Space from the 70s and 80s to realistic models like this, the Space Shuttle or some of the CUUSOO range.

Can't wait to get my hands on this.

As for pricing, my bet would be somewhere between 199,99 and 299,99 Euro

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is the one set I'm definitely buying this year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is one heck of a teaser pic. I really want to see some F-1 engines!

Also, this thing is just screaming for a MOC of the launch umbilical tower on top of the mobile launch platform on top of the crawler!
