The LEGO Movie DVD and Blu-Ray extras

Posted by ,

Warner Brothers UK has sent out details of the extras on The LEGO Movie DVD and Blu-Ray :

The Blu-Ray will contain:

  • Feature commentary
  • Batman: A True Artist
  • Michelangelo and Lincoln: History Cops (available to view now on YouTube)
  • Enter the Ninjago
  • Bringing LEGO to Life
  • “Everything is Awesome” Sing-Along
  • See it! Build it!
  • Stories from the Story Team
  • Fan-Made Films: Top Secret Submissions
  • Outtakes
  • Additional Promotional Content
  • Alleyway Test
  • Deleted Scenes

The DVD will contain:

  • “Everything is Awesome” Sing-Along
  • Fan-Made Films: Top Secret Submissions

Unfortunately...

  • We have to wait a little longer for its release, it's out next week in the USA but not until July 21 in the UK
  • The Everything is Awesome Edition is not going to be available here, and what with the dispute between Warner and Amazon it's no longer possible to preorder it from Amazon.com, although hopefully it will be on the day of release (June 17)

It's a pity so few of the bonus features seem to be on the DVD. I mean, really? Many people don't have a Blu-Ray player and the exclusive content is really irritating.

DVD isn't getting Batman: A True Artist, History Cops, or deleted scenes?!?!?!?! That had better not be right. Since the dawn of Blu-Ray, bonus features are scarce on DVDs. Disney is particularly susceptible to this.

By in United Kingdom,

I don't mind waiting the extra month (but why an extra month? It was released only a week later in the cinema over here), but seriously, the UK isn't getting the prologue Vitruvius minifig at all? So you can package LEGO into a special retailer exclusive edition of The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug in the UK, but can't do it with the LEGO Movie, the obvious candidate that would make the hard copies sell even more like hotcakes? (I know they're made by different companies, but the point remains). Bad form. I honestly wouldn't have minded if they'd bundled the minifig with a Blu-Ray then only sold it in one supermarket chain, I would have bought it.

So unless they can just do the Blu-Ray here in the UK, without a 3D version which will command silly money and be largely useless for me as I don't have a 3D TV, for something like £12.99 on release week, I might not even buy it. Which is sad as I really love the film.

Having got that out, is there even a slim hope that we will get a prologue Vitruvius as part of a retailer exclusive edition (that isn't the Everything is Awesome edition), or not?

And sorry, this comment probably sounds more ranty than I intended :-)

By in United States,

These days blu ray players are sub $50USD. You can even get them for around $30USD if you shop around. Really no reason not to have blu ray at this point. You can still play your DVD movies on them.

I'm counting the days. Everything will be awesome next week.

Bluray is more plentiful, but still not everyone has one. I know people with VCRs still, so that's odd.

I lie bluray only for direct movies. Most movies are wasted on it. This movie will probably be better in HD because of the colors. But I won't need the extra stuff just for the prologue figure.

Do any of the editions have a minifigure pack-in?

@mkrey
I believe the Everything is Awesome edition comes with on.

Sad that the DVD is being given the axe more and more in favor of Blue-Ray.

Those complaining about the DVD content, do you still want publishers to put stuff on VHS as well?

By in United Kingdom,

Seriously? They aren't even releasing the everything is awesome edition over here? That is just stupid and annoying.

@Shib stupid and annoying, sounds just like the Everything is AWESOME song :)

If you don't like missing out on the Blu Ray extras, stop being stingy and just buy a Blu Ray player. You're not going to win any sympathy by whinging.

@blounty23, you mean that's not your favourite song? next you'll be telling us that Where Are My Pants? isn't your favourite TV show! :-P

We have no information to suggest it will be available here but I have asked the PR lady that send the info yesterday whether she knows anything.

They've chucked so many freebie minifigs out for this movie, I cannot believe they'd miss a trick with someone. I'd imagine Sainsbury's or someone is in negotiations as we speak.

I'll be holding off on preordering one.

^ That was exactly my thoughts, just better said I suppose. Up until now, the UK and the US have both got the same freebies if you did largely the same thing (ordering the game or whatever). It'd seem ludicrous then if the UK didn't get the minifig packaged with the film, even as a retailer specific edition, a la Legolas poly with Hobbit: DoS.

@Shib, I actually downloaded the song and listen to it quite frequently, but I won't take back the 'annoying' part. I also love Where are my Pants? Because it's uses such an extravagant storyline, yet it makes it so simple. Pure brilliance.

These extras seem to be pretty good, better than most films (but not as good as the LotR/AUJ EEs) I assume the 'main' blu-ray edition in the US edition will include these too, right? Can't wait to get my copy next Tuesday!

I only have a bluray player because my DVD player broke. Very few people have a set of speakers and TV to show up the differences.
