Lego sets in the 90s had some of the weirdest names, which didn't correlate to the set at all.

A MAN HAS STOLEN THE BEACH IN LEGO TOWN

pretty cool buggy however

Guess he's on vacation.

By in United States,

AHA! So you're the one who's been stealing everyone's towels!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had so much fun with this one! I loved the fact that it could stow the mast, spar, and sail when driving around, and a hook on the back to stow the life jacket, as well.

THATS HIM! THATS THE GUY WHO STOLE MY BUGGY WHILE I WAS DISTRACTED!

I thought Carmen Sandiego was the only one who could steal a whole beach.

"Beach Bandit:" the extremely slim category between land-based criminals and pirates.

By in Canada,

Also coming soon: Beach Smokey, and Beach Snowman...
Eeeeeastbound and Down,
Rollin' up n' truckin',
We gonna' do; what they say, 'can't be done'...:D

Better be a tiny beach, if that's all you've got to haul it away with.

Loved the suspension so much, I bought this twice just to get a matching pair to make my own cars with proper suspension! ??

My first thought was that "beach bandit" might be an alternate name for sandrail (the vehicle in this set is properly a sandrail, not a dune buggy), but that doesn't appear to be true. My guess is "bandit" felt appropriate for early '90s beach motorhead culture to Lego at the time.

Yeah there’s really no way the nickname “beach bandit” doesn’t lend itself to something shady

Love the springs in the back wheels.

By in Turkey,

There are only a handful classic town sets that I'm not a fan of, this is one of them. I'ld get 1958 instead of this, if I were collecting Town back then.

Originally his name was "Grape Smuggler".

Definitely a culture difference thing. In the US, naming a funny car (a type of custom-built drag racer that runs on nitromethane) "[something] Bandit" wouldn't make anyone bat an eye or thing it really meant something criminal or shady. "Bandit" is sort of an euphemism for "goes so fast you might not notice it" when talking about cars, especially race cars.

Ah, man! This was my desire as a kid! Didn't have it, friend did.
(As was Captain Roger, and one time I was guess at mom's working friend home and their kids had 6251, I was amazed!!!)

This dude gets it.

By in Poland,

I love these late 80s - early 90s town sets. I bought this set a few years ago along with a couple other old sets just to have at least a part of what was in my opinion the golden era of Lego.

I also built this set in Stud.io, imported through Blender to Unreal Engine and made a little Lego racing game.

Underrated and underloved set! Had a lot of fun with this =D

Depends on the market. German and Polish set names were rather boring or descriptive, but thus, hardly misleading.

Like 6669 Diesel Daredevil?
Oh yeah, good old nineties

There is also 8815 Speedway Bandit.

That suspension piece was the best LEGO ever made imho.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

There were a lot of films in the early 80's with fast cars and trucks in 'Smokey and the Bandit". So maybe this is the Bandits day off as the mini-fig does have the same hair style and shades as Burt Reynolds.

Lol, so glad I got 6528, a kinda similar vehicle though with suspension on both axles! One of my last sets before my dark ages, but loved those pieces nonetheless. And still have them...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I got this in a bulk lot to put it on sale. To check its completeness I quickly built it. Not a bad little set, but it's weird how only the back has suspension. It's fun how all the accessories can fit on it. Quite a complete little set all around!

Fun fact: this exact same minifig comes in five sets! 6314, 6342, 6414, 6595 and this set, appearing every year between 1992 and 1995 (one other set has him in 1992 too).

I had this as a kid.......and still do! 90s sets rule.

My mom bought this one and 6258 for me in the Billund Legoland Shop in 1992 - beautiful memories for these days.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Still have this one! I loved it as a kid. So simple but conveyed a sense of freedom

Gravatar
By in Austria,

That sail came in 5 sets in the 90s, but the printed tile is unique to this set. I'd love to see it make a comeback in the City theme, maybe a company that rents surf and sail stuff? Would be a nice little throwback.

I've come across several of these in bin buys, it's always a keeper for the sail and suspension. And it does feel a lot like the go-karts we used to drive as kids. Engine at the back, bigger rear wheels, and side bars (though we had a full roll cage).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ahh a lovely old set from my childhood. As mentioned by others the suspension rocks and the vehicle taking everything really added to it, even though my sail has a permanent curl from being rolled up in the back

Yea, my brother had this one. Stowing the gear in/on the back was great.looked bulky but still very cool when full and you could take it around to play with

1958 was only available as part of a multi-pack: 1967, which also included 1959, another Town set.

You'll get no argument from me. One of the reasons I was glad to get my brother's Lego collection when he decided he wasn't interested anymore was the fact that he had 6660.

Indeed. I had 6648 as a kid, but I recently bought 6660 via ebay.

By in Germany,

Interesting set. It definitely brought something new to Lego Town.

I won a second copy of this years later at a Lego event (alongside some Lego branded stationery stuff). It was a bit weird seeing the difference between a brand new surf sail and my old crumbled up one... The suggested storage method really doesn't help in keeping this in good shape.

Funny they went for an exclusive 2x2 tile print here, but not for the 1992 space shuttle set.

Loved the ‘Leisure’ subtheme of Town from the early 90’s. I had all of the beach sets but never got any Paradisa as nobody would buy me the pink bricks! ??

By in United States,

I have the sail--and that's about it. If I ended up with another suspension axle, I'd be tempted to piece it together. That's about it for the "don't have handy loose in my collection" parts.
