The next LEGO Ideas set has been announced, recreating scenes from The Goonies! The press release follows:

21363 The Goonies
2,912 pieces, rated 18+
$329.99 / £269.99 / €299.99
Available at LEGO.com from 1st November

“Hey, you guys!” Relive The Goonies movie adventure with this collectable LEGO Ideas set

This diorama model features brick-built vignettes of iconic scenes from the 1980s cult classic movie, from the Fratellis’ hideaway and caves to Willy’s treasure room. Turn the model around to view a detailed recreation of the exterior of the Inferno pirate ship ruins.

The set includes twelve LEGO minifigures of key characters from the movie and the interiors are packed with authentic details. Send a minifigure through the secret fireplace entrance to the caves. Activate the boulder-dropping trap. Use the Copper Bones Skeleton Key to release the trapdoor. Push the keys on the skeleton organ to break the floor and access the slide to the octopus (from a deleted scene). Send Sloth sliding down the mast on the Inferno deck.

A fantastic movie lover gift, this pirate ship-shaped model makes striking home decor.

40773 The Goonies: The Walshes' Attic will be the GWP during the first week of November.

Is this the first ideas GWP not tied to a contest or fan design?

Gravatar
By in France,

This set brings so much nostalgia! The minifigures are incredibly well designed, with so much attention to detail. I love the action features, they are true to the movie.
Well done to the design team!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Goonies is admittedly a pretty significant blind spot in my eighties pop culture knowledge, but I still feel like if there was a hobbit in the movie I should have known that already.

"where the octopus? "

It's in the water around the back of the ship

Gravatar
By in United States,

That’s one more minifigure each for Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, and Ke Huy Quan!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Two immediate thoughts on this set:

-The marriage of the ship and caves is a nice touch. I like that there’s a lot of points of interactivity here.
-At last, a new Short Round minifigure (sort of)!

One I might be tempted by if (a) I didn’t have loads of pirate stuff and (b) I could store it easily, which I don’t think I can.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

All that and the Inferno tile is a sticker.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I do consider myself about as much an 80s as a 90s kid, but somehow only know The Goonies from the MSX game, never even seen fragments of the movie. Together with E.T. and Ferris Bueller's Day Off probably my biggest omissions from that era.

That said, this set looks cool, with plenty of details I assume are all references to the movie. Can't help but feel it's a bit pricey for what you get, but hey, what else is new?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Cool set, cool GWP. Some very recognisable minifigs as well (especially the evil mother).
I voted "No, but I like it". A set I would like to have, but while 300,- is not necessarily expensive for this, it is still a lot of money.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Too many awesome ships! So little space!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Looks great, but is it Good Enough without a Cyndi Lauper reference? ;-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was always going to be a day one purchase, and that GWP really seals the deal.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Finally! Been waiting for this since it won the 80s Challenge last year. Surprised they’ve not announced this until a week before it’s due to release, but that has no impact on my excitement!

Gravatar

The Goonies isn't good, but this is a nice set.

I saw The Goonies when I was a kid. You're not missing much. It's weird to me that this movie has such a cult following all these years later. Now Ferris Bueller on the other hand ... you should watch that one. It holds up.

As a Gen-Xer myself, I guess I should be flattered that Lego is churning out all these sets aimed specifically at my generation's nostalgia. Too bad I can't afford any of it. Now, where's my Speed Champions A-Team van??? I would also accept K.I.T.T.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It needs a white nanofig to complete it - it'd be your most favourite piece!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very cool set. Love the details and functions. I especially like the organ, the well with bucket, and the captain’s cabin. I like the idea of the ‘rooms’ being sequential and the inclusion of the restaurant’s basement and even the area with the pipes below the country club. Interesting building techniques and the build of the big skull is great! The GWP is ok, I guess. I think it’s odd to include the parents, but whatever.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

As a display-piece, I quite like it. As a ship, it's frankly awful.

At that price, I won't be getting it.

Also, dang man, both Sloth and the skeletal organ just looked... so much better in 71267. Alright, not necessarily _better_, but certainly more accurate.

Sorry, Goonies. I guess I do say 'die' here.

I’m pretty sure this was in the 80’s contest. If it weren’t from a fan design, it would just be an Icons set, not Ideas.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Once again, Lego has priced me out....it's happening more and more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was way excited for this with the original submission, but I knew that was too big to be a good seller. I think they did a good job shrinking it, but now all the scenes are too cramped for me. There are cool functions and minifigs, but the ship looks bad to me. Combining the ugly ship, cramped spaces, and price makes this a hard pass for me (and I grew up in the 80s and love the film).

Lucky me to save my money. I am happy with my Dimensions pack. Only the BTTF Speed Champions interests me in the entire catalog, currently.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It's quite different from the original competition winning entry https://beta.ideas.lego.com/challenges/6e21d7aa-7751-4f19-9fed-f2500018cf5b/entries/405d2021-8bbb-4096-ae9c-a331a3424b75
which I prefer as this is just about the cave adventure with great Lego stone work. Where the kids are looking for treasure across a bobby trapped 'Indiana' style basement cave, before the pirate crooks get there first. I also don't remember any pirate ship, so not sure why they have toned down the cave aesthetics for life below deck.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Not for me. I'm in the right age group, but The Goonies completely went past me. So I'm not even going to comment.

[however, without any reference to tie this to, the set makes no sense at all :)]

Gravatar
By in United States,

TBH I kinda hate it. The ship side doesn't look very good, worse than the original submission . . . which I get, it probably uses a lot less pieces. On the diorama side some of the dioramas look pretty good but overall because of all the ship parts you can still see it looks kinda of messy.

Well, I mean the main character is literally played by Sean Astin (current SAG-AFTRA president and all-around legend) who played Sam Gamgee in the LOTR trilogy - it's hilarious they basically used a Hobbit minifig for him.

EDIT: Wait, that's the Chunk minifig not the Mikey. Missed opportunity!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Goonies 'r Good Enough, I guess (why not a Cyndi Lauper GWP?).
So, what else can be made into a display type case?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m a fan of The Goonies and think this set has a lot of fun stuff going on, but it’s so big that I don’t know where I’d be able to display it.

I’m surprised more people haven’t voted for “It’s too big”.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

The price is not that bad, but it looks like just another Lego diorama rather than a well known (or remembered) blockbuster.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This should speak directly to me as I’m an 80s kid and loved Goonies. Unfortunately, I don’t care for the finished product and certainly not for that price tag. This movie might simply not translate well to LEGO, though I do prefer the original submission.

@Huw - I think we need another poll choice next year. The concept of the set interests me, just not the execution. Something like “No, I don’t like what they did here” or “No, they turned Froot Loops into Weetabix.”

I was in the same spot. Born in 84, I never watched it until a couple years ago. Its a fun adventure movie, but looking at it through an adult's eyes... its really nothing special.

Gravatar

Gravatar

I can't wait for this! I'm a huge fan of The Goonies.

Gravatar

So are you supposed to buy two of these to have a complete boat?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I cannot wait for this. Day one purchase for me.

The problem is, Goonies never say buy

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Wow, Canadians must love this price at $380 CAD. $329.99 USD = $460 CAD, £269.99 = $500 CAD, €299.99 = $490 CAD.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Surprised that its taken them so long to reveal it officially when the leaked images have been out and about for around a month now...

That said... not sure what the appeal of this set is? As an 80's kid who grew up watching Goonies and various other kids movies, I should be the target audience for this, but it just doesn't appeal to me at all. i understand they wanted to include many of the iconic scenes, but the way they're set up seems extremely compromised, and has no logical traversal order that follows the films plot. The deleted octopus is a nice touch, but alot of fans won't have a clue what thats about. Could have given Sloth the taller legs too as the scales compared to the others feels off with him.

Completely agree about Ferris. Its still one of my all time favourite movies. It may be a little outdated tech wise, but plot etc it still a great film.

I also second the call for an A-Team van and KITT. A speed champion scale Ecto-1 would also be welcome.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Lego REALLY needs to stop with cheap ass figures in such sets.
Lack of prints on most of these figs really hurts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I did not forsee 2025 being the year of the sailing ships.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the set, but I'm really disliking this GWP that is exclusive to a set and only available for a limited time thing that Lego has been doing lately. It instantly sours me on the whole affair.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

never heard of the goonies (only from lego) so no sale

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the ship design, but despite being an eighties child, I never watched the show, so the whole cave stuff doesn't interest me. It'll have to come down in price, a rare set I'll might get elsewhere, a lot for me to consider getting two for an moc combo ship.

Gravatar
By in United Arab Emirates,

Is the GWP the only way to get that tile printed with The Goonies label?
If so, that is incredibly lame of Lego... given that somewhere down the line those GWPs sell out or are no longer available for fans who might want that title-fonted tile.

I'm glad they didn't do those shenanigans with the Jaws, Jurassic Park or Indy sets!

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I don't know anything about the Goonies, so I checked the movie in the database, and then tried to identify Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Corey Feldman, the actors I knew, as minifigs.
Of course I didn't know they were in the movie.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I do love my 80s properties, but Goonies never really did it for me, and too much inappropriate stuff to show the kids--this one's a pass.

I was about to say the same thing about that 2x6 tile with the "LEGO The Goonies" print, only being available in the GWP and thereby forcing people that wish to own the The Goonies diorama/ pirate ship and suffer understandably from some FOMO in this case for the sake of owning 'the complete set' (new Death Star or Fish Tank anybody?) to buy it in its first week of release at full retail price... Again, TLG continues to apply this IMO nausiating marketing technique on expensive/ flagship sets and I for one won't fall for it!
I truly wonder if TLG realizes by applying this lame 'maximum-and-quick cash grab technique' they are pushing long time fans and customers further and further away... (Yet, I feel like I know they actually DO realize this, but they don't care if it means reeling in more new-to-the-hobby big spenders... In the end it's just business for them and money WILL prevail over loyalty, sigh.)

On a positive note: At least, with giving the other side of the ship a finished exterior (be it a good looking ship or not) it's not just a diorama slice of a ship so on that note it has at least something going for it.

In conclusion this is not a set for me, but I won't judge anybody for buying the set on my personal issue I have with the way TLG 'promotes' it. If you like it, please enjoy it! I will move on now (First World 'problems' anyway, in general I myself can not complain tbh ;-)

Gravatar
By in Norway,

As @yellowcastle and lots of others has said already, the "it doesn't interest me" vote should be split to make a cleareer distinction between "I don't care about the subject/theme/franchise" and "I don't care about this particular model".

The Goonies is a pretty vague memory to me, having seen it *once* on video decades ago, and only remembering faint details like the Fratellis and Sloth, finding the ship and one of the kids prank-translating to a Spanish-speaking maid, the rest of the kids are all a blur (were they really this many?). While I remember it as fairly decent, I don't care enough about it to buy a $300 lego set.

Also not a fan of the "half-a-ship with random (even deleted) scenes in it" format, for this price it should've been a full ship opening up to reveal the scenes. On the upside, it's another expensive set I don't have to worry about.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Between this and 77256, lot of Eighties nostalgia from Lego right now, huh? I've never seen The Goonies, nor is it really a movie I ever had any real interest in seeing, so while there are things I like about it as a model, I'd be giving this one a pass even if I had the space.

@Andrusi said:"The Goonies is admittedly a pretty significant blind spot in my eighties pop culture knowledge, but I still feel like if there was a hobbit in the movie I should have known that already."

Yeah, I never would have thought I'd ever see a hobbit wearing a Hawaiian shirt.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have never got around to seeing The Goonies, but it looks like if I understood any of the little references it would all be very charming! And certainly it will have Presence on display, although I would personally be a little put-out if I hadn’t any useful spots to put it where both sides were visible, whereas kits like the Death Star or the little Café handily removed that concern. (I am being entirely serious about that, for the record.) It’s a set that really calls for being put on a room divider (ideal) or a turntable (ehh) or directly in front of a mirror (works in a pinch).

Gravatar

The minifigs are so cheaply printed (with a couple of exceptions). The price is high.

Yet, my wife and son are huge fans, and it kinda fits my Halloween display vibe. Thus, I'll probably cave on this one.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I love the set and its minifigs. It’s pricey, sure, but the set looks like a fun build and fun to play with. It’s not really a great display piece, but having all those memorable sections make up for it. The slides could be a bit longer but then again, they don’t really need to be.
The Goonies was one of my favorite 80s movies (i had a lot favorite movies at that time) and i wanted to be Data. People that missed out on the Goonies in the 80s will never get what its appeal was. In the 80s we as kids played outside and made adventures just like the Goonies.
I’d like to pick it up first day, but other things in life cost a lot as well, so probably have to wait for a while. That’s why i hate those gwp’s. I mean i like this gwp a lot, but i hate the way and timespan you are giving to obtain it.
