That’s pretty neat. I’m not sure if I’ll need anything to be able to get it, but I do like it.

That's cute. Love the girl's snowman sweater.

That's a cello, not a double bass despite Lego's attempt to make it into one in the Jazz Club...

By in Moldova,

This is the type of GWP I love. Not needed, very cute, and like Town/City in that they can release something similar every few years and people won't complain (much).

By in Canada,

That's very nice and all but what are we supposed to buy to get this? After Insider's Weekend and Black Friday/Cyber Monday, all the good stuff is basically gone. The next desirable set from Lego will only be available in January (modular). The only set I still need to buy before it retires is 60446 - that would certainly not meet the threshold. I also don't want to pay full price for this set and this GWP is not enough to convince me to do it. Very nice though.

By in United States,

I quite like this, it will go nicely in my family's winter village display. I haven't bought anything for Black Friday (was hesitating on 71435, but it's now backordered so that's that), so I still arguably have a bit of a budget left for this. But hopefully the threshold isn't too high (like, under $130 or so), otherwise it'll be another pass for me.

Don't anger it.

By in Netherlands,

Nice GWP, and one that would look great in any Winter Village. Also reminds me of Gilmore Girls. Hopefully the threshold won't be too high, so many people can get one.

By in United Kingdom,

I like this, but I don't think I'll have enough in the budget to stretch for it. Might have to pick it up on eBay, possibly.

That's a dad sweater if I ever saw one. As in, that sweater pattern was created for a minifig who's a dad.

@ToysFromTheAttic:
My favorite holiday GWPs are the ones that work as Winter Village accessory packs.

By in United Kingdom,

Much better than both of the Black Friday / Insiders promos we've got atm, would rather had this and the Hot Choc stand over that Castle set personally.

As others said, a bad time for GWPs, just after Black Friday when stocks and wallets are exhausted but its why they try to incentivize a purchase with a good GWP I guess.

By in United Kingdom,

I'd buy that
From Lego
If I could

I wholly agree, although I've stopped chasing every holiday-themed GWP. This year's' are both very nice, and the first one should arrive very soon.

A wild Gazebo attacks!

It's... hey dang, that's pretty nice. Hm.

By in United Kingdom,

This is why I never buy the Winter Village set on release day. Though funds after Insiders Weekend and the Enterprise are somewhat stretched, especially as I need to buy the rest of the family presents. Such a wonderful GWP to add to a WV display, hopefully the unsold ones get dumped on the secondary market in January. Never understand why Lego feel the need to leak them out this way rather then just selling direct after a period of GWP exclusivity.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it, but there's nothing that would push me over the threshold, whatever it may be. I'll see if I can get it on the secondary market. Lots to love here, so hopefully will not be too hard to find.

Presumably because if they did that, there’d be little motivation to get them as a GWP…

Came to complain about the preemptive meta-complaining. Not disappointed. ;)

Really like this. Looking forward to getting it as there's been nothing that has tempted me from Black Friday (unless there's a Cyber Monday surprise).

Hopefully it will be paired with something as good as 40603 + 40604 in '23 or 40699 + 40700 in '24

Came to the comments for this reference, was slightly disappointed that said reference took until the seventh post to appear.

Very similar to the gazebo and musicians in 10222. Those brick-built instruments still look very good without having the specialized molds.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Very nice. I'll probably buy it later via ebay though. Worked well with some other GWPs in recent months/years.

By in United States,

This looks really good. With all of the GWP's lately I finally have enough to get the 10326 Natural History Museum for free by using my points. Hopefully they'll throw this in with it and I'll get that free also.

A far better set than the one from the last Insiders weekend. Let’s stop calling these sets ‘Gifts’ though - we are all paying for them at the end of the day though inflated prices. Lego doesn’t just give things away through generosity, just some people will benefit from a little extra if they buy what they want when Lego dictates they should. The hobby is becoming far less enjoyable as a result of all the marketing and having to buy at the right time, then missing out on a better ‘Gift’ because you don’t get double points…

So, the funny thing is, MSRP is set high enough to ensure that the set will remain profitable through the projected end of life, without having to adjust prices for inflation. Yes, this means the profit margin is heavily front-loaded (especially since so many people will try to buy it on day of release or soon after). TLG is also likely banned from discounting sets to prevent them from unfairly competing with their own retail partners, who are not similarly restricted. The result is that other retailers can discount as they please, while TLG has to find other ways to increase value. One method is the VIP points system, which can be used to reduce the cost of an overall purchase without affecting the prices of individual sets. The other solution is GWPs, which offer more value for the same purchase price.

Compared to the weird sizes of some other LEGO instruments, it could be a violin!

71029-2 has a smaller instrument with a chin rest that could be a violin or viola, but this has the post sticking out of the bottom that indicates it’s a cello or bass.

I was in a string orchestra for 8+ years and I don't know the difference beyond size. What gives it away?

The post at the bottom is unusually short for a cello in use (but maybe she just didn't pull it out all the way?), which sorta makes it reminiscent of an extreeeeemely (impossibly) small double bass. But the overall size is relatively close to what a cello would be in comparison to a minifig.

More importantly though, she seems to be trying to scratch out some tunes by bowing way up high on the fingerboard instead of down by the bridge! She's gonna get rosin all over her fingers!

It still cracks me up that we got a violin case ten years before we got a violin (in 8805-15), and that the violin is bigger than the case.

And the violin case is smaller than the tommy gun that it would have been used to conceal in real life.
