The LEGO Movie minifigure edition released next week in the UK

Posted by ,

Better late than never, I suppose: The LEGO Movie is being re-released on DVD and Blu-ray next week packaged with the exclusive Vitruvius minifigure.

However it's unfortunate that Warner's marketing department has seen fit to try and fleece the British public by 'forcing' us to buy it twice: it should have been available with the minifig when the discs were first released, like it was in most other countries.

If you haven't already imported a copy from the USA or mainland Europe, you can pre-order it from Amazon.co.uk: DVD (£10) | Blu-ray (£13.50).

Thanks to Leon for reminding me to post something about it.

By in United Kingdom,

Must get this at Christmas and not the one without Vitruvius. At least it's the same price! :-)

£13.50 for a minifigure ... Pass ...

By in United Kingdom,

I personally am a bit puzzled by all this... once again Britain is late to the party. Why? It's not like we're a very small market at all. You are right Huw, surely no reason to hold off a minifig edition's release until now, some 4 or 5 months after the DVD release?

I am willing to bet that Warner caved in to demands from angry Brits, you know.

But anyway, I already paid £13 for the Blu-Ray back in July - I don't need to buy it again! So no minifig for me.

By in France,

Well I have not yet bought it on Blu-Ray, so this is very nice. However why is it not available in 3D?
What is the point of buying this movie in 2D when it was made in 3D?
I don't see the 3D version of this with the minifig, am I missing something?

I didn't buy the imported version as I'm still on DVD and wasn't bothered about the minifig, so I figured I wait till Xmas and add the regular £10 DVD to my wishlist.

But now I can get the DVD and minifig for a tenner, so that's a nice present for the list :-)

£10 minifigure?

I like Lego a lot - but not that much..............

So guys, any advice - what's the advantage of Blu-Ray over traditional DVD here? Would I be likely to see any difference in just watching the movie?

(Oh, and off topic, @Huw, seems like the timestamps are an hour out - I posted that comment at *9*:47, not *10*:47...)

@Plasmodium: The HD quality of Blu Rays is a lot more prominent for real movies, rather than animated ones, but the difference from DVD to Blu Ray for me was like having suddenly put on an invisible pair of glasses to better focus on all the picture. Edges are sharper and details like shadows are more pronounced. It's only a matter of time before 4K Red Rays come out though...

Thanks Rancor. I've plumped for the Blu-Ray as you get a digital copy anyway. It's for my brother, and the main concern was that we'd be able to play it on a laptop if we're on holiday or can't use the Blu-Ray player or something.

The only other difference is that in this case, the DVD has little in extras. Even the Blu-Ray, which does have a lot more, still lacks the usual extras such as trailers and such. I've found more content on Youtube.

You can't stop completionists from being completionists...

Yes also as pointed out by darthdc, if you're a fan of extras and like to find out more about the films you watch, Blu Rays are ideal for that too. DVDs are very barebones and hardly have any extra features now at all. Other than occasionally exclusive minifig incentives. I already got the Blu Ray months ago, so it's not ideal

But as I mentioned, the 2 trailers and the "documentry" Behind the Brick, are not on either the DVD or Blu-Ray. Whether they are on the 3D Blu-Ray, I don't know. Its no use having the 3D version unless you have a 3D blu-ray player, and a 3D tv.

I got the USA 2 disc special edition off ebay for the extra features so it's not too much of an issue that these do't include them, though I'm slightly annoyed I'll have a spare copy knocking around. Anyone want to buy just the DVD for £5? :-)

Thé figure is of terrible quality though. We bought it when it came out here in the US. With minimal play the cape has ripped (it is of a different type of material than regular LEGO capes) and the printing has scratched off some.

So buyer beware!

I always prefer Blu-Ray quality to regular format, but I don't think this ultimate edition was really worth it. I have no use for regular DVD or 3D, so it was essentially a lot of money for a figure that wasn't worth its weight anyway.

Its the wrong type of cape too! Should be the type worn by the graduate and judge figures from the CMF range.
