First image of 40138 Holiday Train

Posted by ,

Promobricks has found an image of this year's first Holiday free gift, 40138 Holiday Train. While unfortunately it's not quite a replacement for 10173 it's still a nice model which I will look forward to picking up.

In the US it will be available with a purchase of $99 or more between October 13th and November 13th. I imagine availability elsewhere will be similar.

Looks nice. Maybe use it as one of the trains you see in the kids section of theme parks or in the mall.

Very cute--oddly, though, I don't think there's $100 worth of sets I want currently.

It's a candy train! Even the signpost has a candy on it, as if it's saying Candy train this way. So presumably it's designed to go with the gingerbread house and I guess they will be a matching colour scheme. This is cute.

It isn't hard for me to find $100 in sets to buy but finding the spare $100, that's the hard thing.

It's a great looking set, but further evidence that the Winter Village is no more ... the last 3 years have seen these sets being WV-compatible and minifigure-scale: 3300014, 40082, 40083, 40106 and 40107. Purists (like me!) will struggle to integrate these into our villages I think.

Wonder if that will be Target's Christmas polybag for December (in the US).

Not particularly enamored of it - but hey, it's much better than a slap in the face!

I agree with the Toymaker, I think this is more evidence that the Winter Village is dead and buried. Which just makes me a little sad, because I loved that line. The line only had 6 sets in it, and they already got bored of it? Meanwhile next year will have the 15,000th police/fire station? Still, I'm glad it lasted as long as it did ...

I liked the $99 promotions of the previous two years better, but hey, it's free LEGO, I'll take it any day. Would've loved it if they had snuck a minifig into this set somehow. Those are always nice to have.

I don't own any WV sets ( I'm up to my eyes in Star Wars ), but I will get this via a reseller.

No minifig means not a must have for Xmas. Who am I kidding I still will probably get it.

Is this the time of year when the "1 of 2" holiday sets were released other years?

^Bingo. Should see another little holiday set in November around Black Friday I would imagine.

@kumasawa - I would assume that this set (40125) is one of those available for general purchase at Christmas and will probably follow the same pattern as the other seasonal sets for Valentine's Day, Easter and Thanksgiving with an in-room vignette time whilst 40138 and 40139 are the promotional freebies-with-spend. I can't see 40139 Gingerbread House fitting in either ... :-(
