LEGO version of Rio 2016 Olympic Games mascot
Posted by Huw,
I haven't seen it reported anywhere else, but according to the Rio 2016 Olympics website, where an article about official products was posted earlier this week, LEGO is going to produce a Rio Olympic Games mascot Vinicius set next year. It looks like an overgrown Mixel...
Thanks to Martijn for the news.

That thing is Terrifying...
I hope it won't be too difficult to obtain. It would make a great parts pack.
Another, more important, piece of news is that Nexo Knights was just unveiled at NYCC.
As for this...thing, it looks hideous.
If there is a link up more interesting could be another cmf series like for GB team 2012 and Germany football team this year.
It looks awful, but that's mostly down to the source material being pretty uninspiring. With licenses, Lego is oft only as good as the source material; that works in the case of things like the better Star Wars vehicles, but in this case......
Also, this line from the article;
"Lego models of the Games mascots"
implies the Paralympic mascot will get a set as well. It's good to see TLC branching out like this, just a shame that it is wasted on these two characters (still miles better than the London '12 abominations).
Looks like Finn in Marsipulami pajamas... :/
From the article:
"The Rio 2016 online store will be another crucial outlet. While it is currently only available for sales in Brazil, the organising committee plans to make it available for overseas customers in February 2016."
Well this is good news for me. My wife and I had been planning to go to the games in Brazil, but financially it's just not going to work out. Thankfully, I'll probably be able to pick up Vinicius and Tom since I can't go anymore.
Looks pretty weird, but if it doesn't cost too much it'd be a great way to get the new ball joint pieces from the Mixels.
One question: What IS it?
The face is cute, but it does not fit with the design scheme of this thing. At all. This thing is half grey ball joints, and it looks really ugly.
But hey, it's a stellar parts pack, depending on how much they decide to sell it for...
That's weird even for Mixel standards.
Well. That looks stupid.
OTOH ... part pack!
Chucky reincarnated?
That picture demonstrates very clearly why LEGO need to hurry up and make some of those ball joint parts in different colours...the grey against the bright yellow on that just doesn't work for the character.
Stickers, really? Way to cheap out TLG.
Based on the costs of London 2012 merchandise, I can see this being in the £30 - £40 region and being only available in Brazil.
